Just added this topic in case my admin message gets lost as new posts are added.

As I mentioned on Friday, I was doing some maintenance on the Diasboro site including running an update of the Discussion Forum Software, which tuned out to be a major update and redesign that has overwritten some of the settings that I'd previously made. I've resolved a few issues, including returning the colour back to red from blue.

Here is a summary of the major changes:

The 'Like' button has been replaced by a 'thumbs up' icon in the bottom-left corner of the grey box that contains the poster's name and avatar - I've since managed to get rid of the 'thumbs down' option that existed with the 'thumbs up' one. You now don't have to choose but just have to click on the grey thumbs up icon.

However, clicking on the 'thumbs up' icon doesn't say you 'Liked' a post but instead says 'Reacted' - which seems an odd choice of phrase to me but that's what the forum writers have switched too - maybe similar to a football manager looking for a reaction after a bad defeat but it appears social media doesn't care if you like or dislike something as long as you get a reaction you're as they say 'trending'

It also means that only the last three names are listed and then just says how many people have 'reacted'. I previously managed to solve this issue on the previous software version by adding some of my own custom code but I will need to look through the new code to see whether I can add some different code to list all names - plus I'll try to switch 'Reacted' back to 'Liked'. That I will hopefully manage in the coming days as I'm shortly heading out for the day.

Hopefully, you'll all manage in the meantime!

Return of the Lost Likers - the sequel...

As promised I've finally sorted out the list of people who have liked a post as members are now no longer reactionary!

It was proving too complicated to override the Forum software code because of that missing 'hook' in their code so I therefore opted to insert one line of code into their Template module that allows me to seamlessly switch my custom code that list all likers of a post instead of their last three reacted version.

It's not usually good practice to edit the code of a Wordpress Add-on as it will get overwritten with each update - but at the end of the day it's only one line that is easy to paste back in when it is updated. I also had to make a few stylesheet changes so that there's room for the quote, edit buttons etc

I tested it all yesterday on my local version of Diasboro and it all seems to work well so I've updated the live site

btw

Just fixed an error I was getting when making a new post - thought there was something wrong with my new code but after some hectic error checking turned out it was because I had a blank line in the file I just pasted the new code into! They're not very forgiving these systems and also give meaningless error messages to make it even harder to figure out what went wrong.

All this technology is above my comprehension, so grateful to Werdermouth for all his time and hard work for keeping us all on the straight and narrow.
