Just to let you know I've just done a slight rejig of some post and moved them to different threads.

So if you've been posting your pre-season thoughts on the 'Transfer Targets & Rumours' thread, just switch to posting on the more recent 'Boro's squad starts to shape up' one

I noticed this morning that it was getting a bit confusing to follow the pre-season build-up discussion as people were posting more or less the same discussion topic on both the now three-month old thread 'Boro 2021/2022 Transfer Targets & Rumours' which had entered its 11th page and the recent thread I setup to see how the squad was building ahead of the season kick-off 'Boro's squad starts to shape up'.

The other problem is that the Transfer Targets & Rumours thread no longer appears on the Recent Threads list so depending where we are in terms of where posts were being posted, people dipping in may end up missing of some of the recent posts. So I've moved the recent chunk of those posts onto the latest thread.

I also move a batch of around a dozen posts from that recent thread that were not about football but a general contemplation of life in general to the more appropriate place of 'General Chat' that exists in the 'Members Lounge' for more personal subject matter. Interesting and enjoyable as they are to read, it could probably confuse a few of our general readers (such as a few local journalists or footballers or even managers perhaps) when they stumble upon a page of existential conversation in the middle talk on the merits of Matt Crooks and the future of Lewis Wing - even though Bill Shankly may have had a view on life and death it probably does need some context for those outside our loop.

There is life outside our loop?

Surely it must be meaningless for those on the outside looking in?

@redcarred

I think I'm not even inside my own loop sometimes...

Just to let you know that Diasboro was down for a few hours earlier due to a technical problem at the hosting end.

It seems the domain name of diasboro.club was not pointing to the site so it wasn't returning a web page when people entered it into their browsers. Thankfully the hosting company's support resolved the issue fairly quickly once I'd called them.

Exmil Challenge 2022

I thought it would make life easier if I moved the Exmil Challenge and entries to a dedicated thread as with previous one in 2020 - since it was posted in the Barnsley thread and the discussion is moving to the Spurs game then it may get hard to find

Here's the link to the new thread, which is also listed under Recent Threads

Thankfully, the site appears to be back up and running after the automatic renewal of the diasboro.club domain didn't happen as expected. Anyway, I've just manually renewed the domain so everything should work as normal now.

Thanks Werder. I thought it might have been an attack by Sheffield United "supporters".

Hi Werder

I’d like to start a new topic, but I can’t see how to do it. Can you help?

Hi

if you go to the lead page and hit the heading that you want

eg

General Football

you will se a prompt that says add topic

hit that and enter topic as text then post

it will then come up on as a lead topic

Hope this helps

OFB

Thanks OFB. As it happens, a friend had helped me work it out.

Just popping in on the site during the quiet pre-transfer window June period to check everything is OK.

I noticed the new thread 'House Hunting Help' by Martin - nothing wrong with that but instead of being posted under General Discussion it is better to place these type of posts under MEMBERS LOUNGE - MESSAGES as posts in the Member's Lounge are not visible to non-members and therefore is safer in case any personal information is inadvertently posted that could pose any potential security problems.

I've moved it there...

I'm just doing some site maintenance and am installing the latest updates for Wordpress and the various plugins/add-ons that Diasboro uses - including the one for the discussion forum.

Anyway, it appears the discussion forum plugin includes a bit of a redesign and has also changed headings and links to default blue - I'll try to restore it to the Boro red in due course but will need to investigate a little first. Hopefully, everyone will manage in the away colours for a while!

It also seems that 'Like' has been replaced by 'Reacted', which makes it sound as if a post has woken somebody up! It has also gone back to just listing the last three people who liked/reacted so I think I'll need to try and change that too...

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't updated the plugin now but apparently if you don't it's a security risk but looks like more work for me instead. Damn those upgraders for thinking changing something is actually an improvement.

Just written a blog about tomorrow’s match but it won’t post. Can it be saved?

Werdermouth - the amount of work you must do, for nothing (to allow us somewhere to let off some steam, comment favourably or to post some message or some old memory that has resurfaced into consciousness after some years)....

Thanks for all you do.

Ken

Not sure why but if you still have the text in the textbox then copy the text then open a new window and go to the Diasboro Swansea preview post and try to paste it into a new reply.

To Copy and Paste the text...

1. I think you tap on the text box twice about a second apart and you should see an option to 'Select All'

2. You should then see an option to 'Copy'

3. Go to the new window where you will paste your text as a new post on Diasboro

4. Then tap twice again on the text box where you write your post and you should see an option to 'Paste'

5. Then click on 'Add Reply' as normal

Also just noticed that to 'Like' a post there is a 'thumbs up' icon in the bottom right corner of that grey box that includes the poster's name and Avatar - you then have to choose the blue thumbs up as there's a red 'thumbs down' as well, which I'm not a fan of.

Anyway, I'll have to look into how to try and customize the discussion forum plugin over the weekend and try to return it to something close to how it was.

It seems this recent update has reset all settings I previously made to it when I set it up back to their default ones - which is a bit of a pain and not what normally happens. I can only presume this was a major upgrade and they've rewritten much of the code so it doesn't preserve the settings made.

Thanks on behalf of everyone for the work that you do. People sneer at the idea of an ‘online community’ but this comes as close as anything to being one. I’m still hoping to meet a chunk of these bloggers in person.

Thanks Werder for your feedback and I hope that you do not have to spend too much time trying to restore your settings. 😎

Nothing like a bit of software code analysis to cleanse the mind after a disappointment...

Good news, I think I may have finally solved the problem of the Post-Likers getting out of sync where some temporarily disappear when others like a post and the last two sometimes getting joined together.

I figured out that the code wasn't counting the 'Likes' correctly because it was using the value stored in the Forum cache (memory), which eventually sorts itself out when it is looked up directly from the database.

Anyway, I solved the problem by simply writing a new line of code that counts the number of names stored in the array that holds the Likers names for each post as this should always match what is displayed.

btw I've also got rid of the 'You' that is displayed when you first like a post if there are less than 4 people who have liked it as I'm sure everyone knows who they are 😉
