@Redcar Red - liked your piece on man management. I remember going through various training course in management over my career and Remember coming across The Adair Principles.
Useful skills and as I recall the trainers said that management can be taught but leadership can’t - you either have leadership or you don’t.
The thing with JW is that, in my view, he probably didn’t have either management or leadership skills. Yes he may have been a leader on the pitch but being a leader as a manager is a completely different thing.
He probably suffered from the same problem as Southgate in that going straight to being the manager makes exerting authority hard. And, not helped from possibly being “too nice” and not wanting to upset players?
NW doesn’t have that problem and hopefully we will see a lot more effort and commitment today with some shape
Hopefully I’ll be able to get the beam back stream today after the farce last week of identifying cars which were taxis to get into my own identity on the Boro web site
Tje guys in the IT dept were great but didn’t solve the problem. I turned the radio off after the second goal anyway!
Hopefully a better performance today
I just saw PPP's Exmil predictions otherwise I would have forgotten as I've been really busy.
btw I think if anyone else is yet to submit their entry then you've got until 1:30pm today!
As for a prediction for today's game at Stoke, well I think I'll be borrowing OFB's traditional double zeros - Yes can't see beyond 0-0 today, although having said that, Stoke are unbeaten in their last 5 games and knocked in 5 during their last home game - mind you it was against free-falling Hull so probably doesn't count!
Potters 2 - In-Offs 0
Don’t think I have predicted the result - foam hand BBD says 1-0 to Boro, realistic BBD says 0 0!

Being too nice is definitely an issue, as is coming from the team to leading it. When my partner and I bought the business we’d been working in for 10 years it was really hard for us and our employees/former colleagues to make the transition. I always felt I was too “nice” to lead but somehow we got through it. There are advantages in having been seen to be good at the job we’d done as employees so that gained us respect but stepping up to leadership was tough. When we sold the business to two employees we’d groomed for the job, my advice to them was not to try to be too friendly with the staff. From Boro’s perspective I don’t think Warnock will have a problem with that!
@grovehillwallah Sorry, mate. Was thinking about the current Gary Gill, not the player.
Yes, an excellent example. Appreciated. Up the Boro!
In April 1989, Gill suffered a broken leg during a match against Southampton but carried on playing, stating "The physio then was Tommy Johnson. He knew how desperate I was to stay on the pitch." Johnson gave Gill the “Magic Sponge”and told him "it is a battle, run it off." He continued to play on until it became impossible to do so.
And that is the difference now compared to days gone by. In some ways it wasn’t right and that many players are now struggling with long term issues. Spike Armstrong being one of many. I remember seeing Tommy Smith, ex Liverpool, and he could hardly walk.
I think that the current players are somewhat spoilt compared to their predecessors
I attended a former players asssociation meetung held by Jim Platt. Len was there, too.
Yes, it was different back then but most of the Charton Champions were not walking normally. Also the surgery methods were not the same then as now.
Up the Boro!

As far as I’m aware it’s the same person
I think I would be happy to get a draw today. I'm pleased with the Warnock appointment but I reckon it will be too much to ask for him to turn it round to a victory so soon.
Hope I'm wrong though!!
The Boro team
Stojanovic
Spence
Howson
Fry
Friend
Johnson
Saville
McNair
Roberts
Fletcher
Assombalonga
Subs: Pears, Wood, Moukoudi, Shotton, Clayton, Wing, Morrison, Tavernier, Nmecha
@grovehillwallah Looks like he's decided attack is the best form of defence. Not what I expected. I literally have no idea what will happen today. We could equally easily win or lose 5-0.
Gestede has left the club !
Not sure what to make of that team. Is it Howson and Fry in the middle of a back four or is it a back five with Spence and Johnson free to get forward when we
attack?
Also no Coulson even on the bench.
I think 1-1 ..... and would be happy with that
utb
Rudy Gestede has left Boro.
A club statement, released just now, reads:
Like Ayala, Gestede’s contract was due to expire on June 30, and as there was no commitment from the striker to sign an extension to July 20 to take in the remaining games of the season, he has left the club.
Looks like it's either a conventional 4-4-2 or possibly 3-4-1-2 with Spence and Johnson as wing-backs with Roberts playing behind a front two - I guess we'll see soon.
Well not the line up I expected. Even more pressure to get a point(s) as both Charlton and Luton are winning. Not surprised on the news re Gestede. CoB 😎

The wingbacks was my interpretation.
Interesting choices. Would prefer Coulson generally to Johnson and I don’t see a natural holding midfielder in there.
Quite an attacking line-up. Could be tasty
As far as I’m aware it’s the same person
GWH, I know Gary Gill quite well. We have even met once when he was in Finland looking at a player a few years ago. And I often visit his wife's restaurant in Maltby. Also AV goes there regularly.
And I was at Hartlepool in 1986 when he also played the match of the centenary. Up the Boro!
I like the line up for today's match. Exciting. Up the Boro!
As above, just seen the team news and the current score from the others below us. By 5 o’clock you may probably be able to throw a handkerchief over the bottom four plus maybe Huddersfield.
Team line up, is it 442 or flexible with wing backs. In all honesty I cannot believe NW will leave George to defend in a back four.
I have us down for a defeat, would be over the moon with a point having seen Luton and Charlton win, Barnsley drawing. ☹️
After giving us a lesson last week Swansea lose at home to Luton 🙄
@andy-r. Could be Coulson has an injury. NW mentioned in his pre match interview that a couple of players had not trained and were carrying knocks but hoped they might make it - perhaps he is one of them and didn't make it. Just tuned into the match and picture perfect but sound has now gone! 😎😬
1-0 up. A great finish by a Fletcher header. A good free kick by Roberts.
At least we have defended better than last time around.
Up the Boro!
@jarkko That puts him on 11 goals for the season. The recovery starts now... (*prays* still 50 minutes to go!). As things stand, although the Tigers are 2-0 up at Birmingham, Fletcher's goal puts Boro back above them in the table on goal difference (19th & 20th respectively). Slightly off topic, the Dirties lead Fulham by 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Paddy B.
Fry looks more comfortable on the right side of the centre backs. And Friend is better at CB than as a left back. He is not quick enough for a full back.
Good line up and perfect shape. Stoke looks like us versus Swansea. Up the Boro!
Well, it’s not what you’d call pretty but it was a well taken goal and it’s a pleasant feeling to be 1-0 up at half time. It’s playing as a back four but both Johnson and Spence are getting forward when we attack with Howson sitting in front of the centre backs.
Plenty of commitment.
@selwynoz. I agree it's a case of never mind the quality it's all about the result. I just hope we can keep it going and don't pay the penalty for not capitalising on other opportunities. Quality of the streaming has been very good and no buffering so far. The sound has just gone again, I think BBC Tees have hit the off button. CoB 😎
