What is very disappointing and will be of concern to CW, is the continual injuries of players bought by the current recruitment set up and possibly Kieren Scott?

We have recently signed players with a history of being injury prone, then, Ameobi, Hall and others within our current squad.
Then we have the added issue of the summer recruitment of players apparently brought in to fit a new model and at this moment in time not fitting that profile.

It makes it very difficult when you have Iche, Siliki, Hernandez possibly not seen as part of the future. Then there is Payero. Bought I assume because one of his attributes is to pass the ball forward. He maybe a punt, but at a cost the club can ill afford.

So for all the talk of a different outlook with regards to recruiting players, we still appear to be lost in the woods looking for a way out.

Stand up the real Pedro ! Possibly Kieran Scott !

Hall was already here, signed last season I believe.

Ameobi signed June.

Uche signed July.

Hernandez signed (loan) August.

Payero signed August ( but negotiations took weeks).

Siliki signed deadline day.

Kieran Scott took up duties 1 Sept !

Since then the recruitment department is slowly being revamped, including another Scott (Andy) coming in to become chief scout. It doesn’t take long to check facts.

Come on BORO.

@exmil

Except that the signings of Sporar, Lea Siliki and Payero were being used as a stick to beat Warnock with; everyone was claiming that these were Scott signings with an eye to the future once we got rid of Warnock. Personally I don't think it was that simple but there were definitely signings driven by the recruitment team and those driven by Warnock. Looking at it and rating them

Warnock signings

  • Ameobi. Rating: E. Complete failure
  • Lumley. Rating: C. Mixed so far
  • Uche. Rating: C. Started well but trending down.
  • Peltier. Rating: B+. Done everything asked for him and been a positive influence.
  • Crooks. Rating: A
  • Daniel. Rating: C-. Bought as back-up. Rating would be a B as a Back-up or C- as first choice
  • Bamba. A+. Undoubtedly the best signing of the year
  • Olusanya. Rating: D as a first team signing, possibly B as a U23 signing

Recruitment team signings

  • Sivi. B- as a U23 signing. Lot of excitement in pre-season but faded out of view since then
  • Payero. C. Shown potential but lot of injuries and struggling to adapt
  • Lea Siliki. E+. Dead in the water.
  • Sporar. B. Started well, works hard but struggling to score goals
  • Hernandez. B+. Probably a combination of Scott and Warnock wanted him. Done ok but hasn't recaptured his form of 2 years ago and doesn't have a natural position in the team under Wilder.

On the outgoings front

Players that Warnock clearly wanted rid of: Wing, Coulson

Players that Warnock seemed to want to keep: Spence, Morsy. (He played Spence a lot and he was doing ok at the start of the season.)

Spelling it out; the "Warnock signings" are a bit of a random selection while the recruitment team ones follow a certain plan. However Warnock's signings have had a greater positive impact than the recruitment team ones so far. Obviously there is still time for Payero to come good; hard to see Lea Siliki turning it round at this point though.

exmil,   I think you should read my post again as I do not believe you have really understood the base line issue.

Probably deleriad has spelt it out better overall and I would agree that Bamba is the best signing to date in terms of value for money and leadership.

Also do you believe Scott had no influence what so ever in any of the incoming players?

Pedro the point I was making was that most of the signings were made before Scott took up his post, although you and deleriad are implying that Scott was working for Boro before 1 Sept, which I was to understand he was still contracted to Norwich.

deleriad, when you say “everyone” was claiming that these were Scott’s signings, was that official communications from the club or was “everyone” speculation by punters ?

Come on BORO.

If you read through this board (and other boro boards) there was all sorts of excitement and claims that Scott was sourcing signings for us and that Payero, Sporar, Lea Siliki and Hernandez were all because of him.

I personally said I didn't think so because it was highly unlikely he would be able to work for us in any sort of way before 1st September without breaching his contract with Norwich. However I can well believe that he might have given an informal go-ahead in conversations.

At the time, given the anti-Warnock mood, those 4 signings were presented as non-Warnock signings and part of a new, twin-track approach and so on. As I'm sure you remember, the conspiracy theory was that Warnock was refusing to play Payero and Lea Siliki because he didn't sign them and didn't want them.

I don't handle a candle for Warnock, I think it was time to part company, but so far we have got better value out of "his" signings than the recruitment team's ones. That said, it is possible that Sporar, Payero and Hernandez will come good.

One related thing I have noticed; there has been very little about incoming targets other than Balogun. Normally at this point we are hearing all sorts about players we're after. Maybe Scott is running a tighter ship but if we're really hoping to get new players in before the Mansfield match you would expect us to be a long way down the line with some of them.
