Sorry, I’ve misled you. The annual football match at Wembley for charity was between Speedway riders and JOCKEYS not boxers.
I’d be playing a lot of long balls into the box against a team of Jockeys and if facing a Speedway winger I’d definitely try to unsettle him by forcing him to turn right. 😉
After watching football, cricket and rugby league this year I decided to watch golf for the first time in months. Wasn’t I glad that I did because Kurt Kitayama, an American with a Japanese surname, won by one stroke over Rory McIlroy and Harris English when at one time any one of eight players could have been involved in a playoff. As Rory started the final round with a couple of bogeys, this was an outstanding comeback from the Irishman in the best tournament I have witnessed for many a long time.
I notice that the Speedway fixtures for Redcar Bears who start its programme in two weeks time, have appeared on its website, but I can’t wait now for the Speedway Grand Prix season to begin later in the year on BT Sport, and of course the Ashes Cricket series later. It promises to be a good year for my favourite sports in the late Spring and Summer.
Guess I’ll give football a miss for awhile, but stay alive for a little bit longer once this cold snap finishes!
Hi Ken,
Harry Pearson posted some pictures on Twitter from his Mum's photo albums...Racing on the beach between Redcar and Saltburn. I guess late 1930s. See attchement.
Do you, Ken, remember these races? Up the Boro!
Tosh Warwick has messaged me regarding the historical data retained by Ken.
We mentioned that as a group that we would contact Ken’s family to determine if they would be willing to part with this to pass on to the Boro historian.
Is there any update ?
