@k-p-in-spain i agree, Borges is never first choice at CB. But if he would be a squad player for left-back, he can also be a reseve for centre-back.  How much Fry played last season, he was "only" a back-up in a way.

Absolutely measured, Fry is better but seldomly available.  Up the Boro!

@powmillnaemore I’ve just Googled TURP and, frankly, I wish I hadn’t! Good luck - I’m sure the procedure will go smoothly.

I've had that procedure myself. It wasn't the camera I was worried about, as much as the tripod and crew. Good luck Powmill

@k-p-in-spain

That will be three Americans in the team then, and they all know each other.
Maybe the Boro will get more American followers as a result, which could mean more revenue if they all buy merch.
The new recruits look promising so far.

You'll be fine. Just make sure you lay off all the fun activities for the recommended amount of time.
When I came to after the sedative, my urologist said "There you go. You'll be able to drive a truck through that now." Yikes!

I went over to 'Getting started as a new member' on the assumption that it might have been a new thread devoted to monitoring Powmill's rehabilitation.

I'd have been really interested in it.

EEEEEK! I don’t envy you that one! I hope it goes well and that you don’t have to walk like Jon Wayne once it’s done.

I just hope that once it's done Powmill doesn't have to be called Marion.

It’s good Boro are scoring goals and hopefully this brings confidence to the forwards. Currently scored 3 but unfortunately conceded 3.
Still , it’s only a friendly.
I see next Friday Boro are on Sky - the new season seems to have come quickly

Boro still need new players.
First on my list, like many others, is a winger who can beat a man and cross the ball to create chances for attackers.

After that a replacement for Fry.

if these 2 could be achieved I’d make do with the remaining players to get by without a new left back and midfielder.

Almost as important is finding a way of moving on the 4 or 5 players who just aren’t good enough to start a game or to come on and have an impact in a game.

philip of Huddersfield 👍🤔🤔

We were far too open today for my liking. All 3 Espanyol goals came from very sloppy defensive work. We’ll need to be much better on Friday. That said, we scored 3 good goals ourselves and we were quite creative against a strong Spanish outfit.

I was a bit concerned that our bench lacked any real quality, but we were without Conway, McGree, Joseph, Strelec, Myles-Harris, Jones and Bangura.

More to the point for me, as a non-Sky subscriber, it's on ITV1 from 19.30 (KO at 20.00).  🙂

I'm 74 years old , so I've seen a lot about Boro, as a fan I've been wrong with opinions on players , managers , tactics etc , that's football,  I've also observed traction, in the sense of underperforming or losing interested

Is Kim under pressure, his deminer seems subdued , I'm afraid people inside the club have pulled him in, including Gibson ,

I thank Steve Gibson from the bottom of my heart, for saving the club, but we are now an also ran club, come on  Hull really,

Personally I've lost interest,  I'll still watch, obviously, but without outside investment, with ambition, fourth in the championship is our goal

Now I'm gonna hypocrite myself , with  our new USA team, could we see an interest from big money

@stircrazy

I was just pondering about unofficial streams when I saw your post - that makes life much easier and quite a change to be a featured game in the normally low-profile early rounds of Carabao Cup - promises to be a good game as Wrexham are a decent side.

@gt

Bit early to write off Boro before a ball has been kicked in anger - it's still only preseason and the team is still being shaped with most new signings yet to be fully integrated - I'm sure Kim Hellberg has learnt a few things from last season and there have been quite a few promising signings.

@clive-hurren

I just watched the highlights on MFC and Boro looked quite sharp going forward but still look vulnerable to quick breaks from the opposition - still it was a bit of a makeshift team but academy graduate Fin Cartwright looked quite good and Castledine was sharp. Morris and Berhalter are starting their midfield partnership with the latter looking good for set pieces. Still the defence looked a bit sluggish ans easily opened up against some slick Espanyol moves. A few senior players hopefully soon fit again but this Boro team looks like it will score goals at least!

Greetings to all,

I've just posted the preview for the Wrexham game. It still feels a bit pre-season but it should give us something to talk about.

It will be interesting to see Boro’s results in the first few games with 4/5 first team players( Strelec, Mcgree etc ) unable to play cos not fit or playing whilst not fully match fit cos of injuries.
Some players , notably Mcgree, don’t seem to have the physical capability to play many games without suffering yet another injury.

Boro seem intent on signing more players but unfortunately no mention of a pacy winger some of us would love to see.

l am thinking the season will be like starting from scratch with so many new players rather than having the nucleus of last season with minor tinkering with the numbers to build a stronger squad.
Consequently I’ve little idea how they will do and so I will settle now for sixth place.

philip of Huddersfield 🤔🤔🤔

@philip-of-huddersfield Hellberg does not use wingers in the traditional way. So we won't sign them. Simples.

I am very, very happy with the squad we have already now. Dieng os a decent option as long as he is here.

Now we need to off-load a few. We can name just 25 players for the League matches, mind.

Up the Boro!

@werdermouth    I managed to watch the full game, which was entertaining in front of a crowd of around 15500 apparently. Good support.

Like Clive, I thought we should score possibly more goals this season. However, whilst it was only a friendly against a physical side, the defence one could argue was our first team pick, apart from Borges if we get the American LB in. So too open, too sloppy and too many mistakes.

My main concern is we still look too lightweight up front and could struggle against the less skillful but more physical sides. Also the continued injuries are worrying. I hope Jones is not going to be another Lenihan.

Boro’s transfer window is certainly gathering pace, Vitek will sign this week, possibly Phillips by Monday, Burgzorg to Preston for £2m, Sene to Young Boys for £1m. It is also rumoured that Boro are looking at Man Utd left back Harry Amass 🤔.

Come on BORO.

@exmil Boro are in 'advanced negotiations' for the signature of Spurs defender Ashley Phillips

According to Pete O'Rourke via X, Boro are in advanced negotiations with the Premier League outfit over a permanent deal for the England youth international, with Phillips expected to be heading to Teesside sooner rather than later.

With over a century of games in the Championship at just 21, Phillips has incredible experience for his age, with ample time to continue to improve.

And he is my height, too at 6 ft 4 in (1.92 m). A Fry replacement,  really.

Looks better than for a few years. Up the Boro!

@exmil.  It certainly is gathering pace.  I was concerned at the outset that we were losing quality players but not recruiting players initially of a similar or better calibre but that has changed quickly in the last two weeks.

If they all turn out as good on the field as they do on paper, then KH must have what he wants to take us that one step further. CoB 😎
