Two changes for Boro this afternoon. Riley McGree comes into the side, with Marcus Forss dropping to the bench.

Tommy Smith comes in at right-back, with Rav van den Berg not included in the squad.

@werdermouth    One could argue that Coburn, could possibly have suffered from playing too many games for Bristol.

We have to remember, that he had only really played under 21 football.

Then he gets loaned out, coming back from an injury, and gets picked for the first team, were he does well. The are chasing a play off place, then the wheels fall off.

Coburn, I believe picked an injury and took some time getting back into the starting line up. I do not know all the facts, but may be the jump from playing against younger players to seasoned players, possibly twice a week was just too much in the end. No criticism intended, but may be they initially over used him.

He is 21 in December. Is he behind, Gilbert. If that is a yes, then strange.

I would have kept him at least until the next transfer window.

I think we might see a young side at Bolton on Tuesday with the likes of Van Den Berg, Gilbert, I Jones, Barlaser, Payero and even Coburn starting 🤔

Come on BORO.

@exmil

Best way to get the Twitter (X?) team selection image is simply just to 'copy image' and then paste it into the comment - it then comes through as the image rather than a link

Van Den Berg has a hand injury and will be missing today's match. UTB!

TL comment just before that goal:

Boro are enjoying the bulk of possession so far, but there's no real penetration yet bar McGree stealing possession.

Boro a goal down after 22 minutes.  🙁

Now two down after 28 minutes.  This could be a hammering!  🙁

ELL pulls one back a minute later, with a little help from Sammy Silvera.

Tommy Smith didn't take long to open his yellow card account, 32 minutes, in fact.

@stircrazy It was not a free kick in my opinion. Throw in for WBA only. Up the Boro!

Rogers makes it two yellows to WBA's 0 in the 44th minute.

An entertaining fairly even first half that has seen WBA ahead thanks to a couple of errors - one from the officials for failing to spot the push on Howson and another error by the Boro midfield to allow their player to run to the 18 yard box unchallenged and pick his spot.

At that point it looked like being a long afternoon but Boro quickly responded with a goal from Latte Lath after some good work down the right by Silvera - who has looked much better today playing on that right.

Looks like more goals in this game but a few players below par - Rogers hasn't looked on it and McGree looks rusty. Boro need to do better defensively as thy won't be scoring as many as last season with the current forwards. Good game though.

@werdermouth   Not sure if it was a push, however it was still poor defending. WBA have scored the majority of their goals from set piece situations. Furlong throws long, the defenders know that. That was Fry’s ball.

The second again poor defending from the collective defence. As good as we all have said about Howson and HH as midfielders, defensive midfielders they are not. It is a glaring weakness in the team and squad.

We will not improve unless we bring one in. I thought Smith’s tackle was a yellow and now that is him goosed. I agree, Rogers and McGree are not in the game at all.

Dear oh dear - that was the biggest mistake of the day from Engel - it will be a long afternoon after all

This is getting worse - schoolboy stuff from Smith giving the ref no choice but a second yellow and off!

TL (47th minute):

Dreadful goal to concede from Boro. Engels [sic] back pass goes straight to the striker and he rounds Dieng to fire into an empty net.

Then, two minutes later:

Engels [sic] should have scored!  He pinches the ball off Furlong, but his effort is deflected behind by Palmer.

Almost instant redemption for the full-back.

ELL gets his (& Boro's) second with a penalty in the 85th minute (WBA handball).

Both the Beeb & TL say it was scored by Forss.

Do we practice defending, because it doesn't look like it

Well Boro shot themselves in both feet at the start of the second half and left themselves the proverbial mountain to climb - still they almost created a miracle with Jones coming off the bench to be his unplayable best and could have scored 2 with a bit of luck.

Alas is was not to be and Boro were ultimately poor defensively today as you can't give away 4 goals and expect anything. However, can't say I wasn't entertained this afternoon but looking like a tough season to achieve a top six at this stage.
