@chris-hunneysett

I have never bought into the idea that some super rich owner should be forbidden to spend his money as he wishes, sorry about that but it never did make sense. It was a rule made by and for the rich clubs. They had nightmares about any Tom dick or Harry with unbelievable wealth sticking their elbow into the face of the great clubs and bidding them farewell as they took their place at the top. That is the entire history of football, so what's new? These big clubs are going to destroy the game by their stupidity. For example, Arsenal, no longer have the money to compete at the top, watch them play and everything is a battle, because they lack pure top class players, and are hoping to 'discover' stars from lower class sides. You don't discover stars, you buy them for enormous sums. Watch this space!

Financial Fair Play or Profitability And Sustainability (or whatever it’s called) certainly needs a review.

I can imagine that owners voted for it (if that’s how it came to pass) because it gave them an excuse from fans complaining about a “lack of ambition”, whilst for richer clubs, the Premier League and UEFA it gave them some protection from smaller clubs with newfound wealth, who generate less wealth for them.

It was sold as a way of protecting communities from irresponsible owners but surely that is what the “Fit and Proper” ownership test is for.

Of course, neither scheme has worked in the slightest.

I for one do not want Ben Gibson/Woodgate and Downing ever back at the club. I keep saying this but we must get rid of these tags  'Jobs for the Boys' and 'He is one of our Own' past records will show that it doesn't work. Recently of course the very bad decision to make Woodgate manager. Will SG ever learn?

Cliques are not a good thing in any business, they are divisive by nature and usually undermining, the exact opposite of unity. If Woodgate is really serious and wants to be a Manager then he needs to go and Manage somewhere at a level he is comfortable with and build his managerial credibility. The same goes for Ben Gibson, he needs to step out from his comfort zone and maybe deep down thats the underlying reason he had issues with Dyche.

Many of us will have worked in organisations where there are individuals who are long and loyal servants but promoted way above their ability and as a consequence haemorrhage the business. They seem to have the ears and eyes of usually an owner or a protective senior executive for some reason. They will never leave because they know that deep down they couldn't hack it elsewhere and would be found out in a matter of weeks. Its a loose/loose scenario.

Perfect tribute to Big Jack with the new away shirt. You know the design.

Can one buy a shirt with J. Charlton on the back? What would be a proper number for Wor Jack?

@jarkko.  No 5 which was for the position of Centre Half for Leeds and England. 😎

i don’t disagree with your first sentence, indeed, as a Boro fan it would be hypocritical if I did.

And yes, FFP was was one of many measures introduced to protect the position of the big clubs at the trough. See also the use of squads and the increased number of substitutes.

Well we've got two proper shirts for next season and now we just need a team to fill them. I do like Mr Warnock's no nonsense stance with transfer targets where it's 'by next Monday or forget it'. Quite refreshing forom the dithering about tactics before.

The one thing that I'm sure has been talked about is Mr Woodgate, whatever his role he should be looking for a job at his managerial level, whatever that is, otherwise he's a bit of a shadow on the wall and in a way an embarrassment.

next week when Mr Warnock is back should be interesting.

UTB,

John

@k-p-in-spain Thanks , mate.

Yes, that sounds better than the number 66 (1966) or 74 I was mulling over. I think I saw the number 5 in his funeral, too.

Somehow Big Jack feels like an great uncle to me. A hugely popular hero as a Boro manager and great person.

UTB,

I like both shirts which is probably the first time that I can say that for a very long time. The Home one is a nice shirt but the sponsor's logo defaces the white band especially with the strapline underneath the sponsors name. Personally I would want to keep the white band pure and stick the advertising on the lower Red panel so it has an even bigger area but is less intrusive on the appearance of the band, There is more Black than White visible on the band as it currently stands but that is not Hummel's fault.

The away shirt can carry the sponsor logo better as it doesn't interrupt a key design feature. In fact the away shirt is possibly the best designed Boro shirt for a very long time, so long that I'm struggling to remember a better one off the top of my head. I'd go even further and say its one of the best Football shirts I have seen full stop.

I get that we need to have sponsors but as a club we need to introduce guidance on the use of logo's on our shirts in much the same way that all corporations do for the use and positioning of fonts and pantone shades etc. The white band as I said above should be our corporate identity and therefore fiercely protected. Having said that I don't want it to sound negative, more an observation for continuous improvement, very good 8/10 but can do better!

@redcarredI agree with you the sponsors logo, despite the money, should sit lower on the shirt and in the hierarchy of use with Boro's image and identity. have they ever thought about that? I've produced corporate ID manuals that detail strict the use of the logo, size, proportion everything so who knows.

AS you say 8 out of 10, but the best for pair of shirts for years for me. Boro definitely spend too much time improving things worse.

It's known as the Peter principle, everyone in any large  organisation, gets promoted to a position that they are not qualified to do.

I think Boro have exemplified that principle to perfection, watching people rise to their "level of incompetence".

Just seen those Home shorts and sock!

Whoa, thought it was too good to be true.

What on earth happened there, dodgy looking stripes on the shorts and those non Boro white socks with two bizarre Hummel chevrons on the shins. Knew I should have waited before praising.

The Goalkeeping kits are even worse if thats possible. A great start with the shirts let down because of non joined up thinking. At least the Blue/Black away kit is OK in its entirety so something to be grateful for I suppose.

@redcarred I also prefer the away shirt. Looks like 10/10. Home kit 8/10 as you said.

I wonder if we need a second away kit for Bournemouth away? Red or black not suitable there...

I presume that most people are happy with the appointment of Neil Warnock and later the new kits for 2020/2- At least there is less posts on the forum now. Or people are just happy the season is over!

I hope we have a chance to challenge for play-offs next season. We just need to find a few defenders and right balance of the team. I like the new word I learned recently - lop sided.

If we had a manager that makes the team better than the sum of the players, we should be OK and challenge for top ten position. I hope NW is the chap.

Long term we should be there or thereabouts like Leicester. Or like Southampton or Burnley. They are not bigger clubs than Boro in my opinion.

In the all time ranking of Premier League, Boro are 15th. I know SG do not have as much money compared to top six as he used to have, but still I would like to say we should be between 10th and 20th in the league - on average.

At least the aim should be there long term. We are down now, but we still have a good owner, not much debts and our time will come. Football goes in cycles and we can only go upwards now, me thinks.

For those born south of the river, happy Yorkshire Day tomorrow. When I used to work I always wore a white rose on the lapel of my jacket, and if I couldn’t find a suitable one in my garden I had an artificial one to wear. Now whether this was on my mind or not I had this dream during the night. I dreamt I was 65 and my wife and I had just returned from holiday and on return home I remarked that I thought it was time to retire. My wife wondered how we would manage financially, but conceded that I wasn’t indispensable at work, but then I woke up from my slumbers, so didn’t know whether I actually went through with my intention.

I’ve had this dream several times but not for many years. Now truth to tell I retired aged 52 some 30 years ago. I actually worked for 34 years, so now I’m   hoping to live another 4 years to contemplate that I’d have had as many years in retirement as l had in working in Local Government. As for my dream and my wife wondering how we would manage financially, well dear no problem, as I’m lucky as I’m spending my brother’s inheritance.

What is the rose called?

We have Rosa Spinosissima in Finland. We call it Mid Sommer Rose. This is a very old version that can be grown also in the most Northern parts of Finland, even above the Artic Circle.

Of course there is a lot of roses nowadays availble, but the temperatures are very similar to Finnish weather on the York(shire) moors.

Jusr asking, like. Here is a picture of the local rose: https://ahosentaimisto.fi/tuote/juhannusruusu-plena-astiataimi/

The old one was more simple but it still grows more like a bush.

I think people are just relieved that it is finally all over but also mentally drained at what went on last Season. There was also the very real fear that SG may come up with yet another "cunning plan".

@jarkko I would prefer we were permanently 10-17 Jarkko, that would mean we were forever in the premier league, although that would also include seasons of struggle

It does look similar to the one in my garden. If you look in at http//yorkshire.cricket.flag.com you will see a white rose with 11 petals and also a blue flag with 5 petals which is the official Yorkshire flag, but as for Yorkshire Day itself it’s usually an artificial white rose bud, but any real white rose will do.

Reading a Hartlepool Mail headline today it read” International winger could return to Boro” No No I said to myself not him. Half an hour later with bated breath I opened the link. Thankfully it wasn’t Downing.

As Blackburn seem to like ex Boro players, maybe the  brother in law could go there, and Ayala, I think Mogga singed him originally.
