I hope the EFL's agreement to postpone the Sheffield United match is in writing and is unequivocal!

I actually had the phone call from Chris and was rummaging around for my shin pads in the loft. I’m gutted it’s been called off.

So I’ve had a half bottle of@sancerre a Petch butcher pork and apple pie and now having a nice sherry before starting on the malt.

Happy new year to you all hic 🍷

@original-fat-bob. Copy and paste a very useful tool. Most of us old codgers on here probably wouldn’t notice. 😂😎

Maybe the EFL got worried about what Chris Wilder would say live on Sky pre and post match interviews.

Come on BORO.

The right call, eventually. Let us hope everyon recovers quickly and without complications.

It is a shame thay our momentum is being interrupted, but on the other hand, we will not be disadvantaged by SheffU having had a week off.

Keep safe everyone and to everyone in here, a very happy new year. I'll raise my glass to you all later.

Let's hope that 2022 is going to be kinder to everyone than the last two years have been. We have to remember that not everyone is a Boro fan looking forward to 2022 with Chris Wilder in charge. We need to spare a thought for those less fortunate than us like Newcastle, Derby and Leeds fans for instance.

At least we can all raise a glass tonight and toast the end of 2021 knowing that we can have a lie in tomorrow morning to nurse those hangovers courtesy of the EFL. Wishing you all a great New Year and a special toast for our absent friends!

I would just start to comment on this thread again to bring it back to the top of the list whenever the game is rearranged. Look at it as recycling 🙂

I suspect Boro maybe threatened to take to the pitch in their new third kit that closely resembled a hazmat suit and stretchering players onto the bench in front of the TV cameras.

Perhaps the EFL suits have made a new rule that it requires 20 covid cases to postpone a game as for some reason 19 cases in a day didn't sound in anyway like a serious situation.

The whole thing has been handled by tone-deaf administrators who appear as unfit for purpose as we saw from Yorkshire Cricket Club a few months ago. In what world was it ever OK or fair that Chris Wilder was supposed to prepare for a game with the training ground closed, key coaches missing and then recalling players he's never even met to play for his team the next day.

Bizarre to put it mildly but nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to those in charge making up the rules as they go along based on the financial considerations only.

Anyway, thanks to OFB for his preview, which I'm sure will just be dusted down and revisited again in a few weeks. Happy New Year everyone - it's another quiet one again over here with the sale of Fireworks banned and parties very limited. I think we still have a sparkler stashed away somewhere and a slightly deflated repaired balloon to release a bit later 😉

Cheers everyone - here's to a much better 2022 and the hope of something approaching normality again!

@deleriad: Do you honestly think Wing would get in our match day squad, let alone get on the pitch. Before his loan he was very poor and as I have said before not a championship quality player IMHO.

Come on BORO.

As i said, "I don't think he's good enough for us (sadly)". It would have been great if he could have kicked on from non-league the same way that someone like Jones has. There was a brief period under Woodgate when Tav, Spence and Wing worked up a real understanding.

Although I don't think he's good enough for us now, his best position is probably as one of the two advanced midfielders in a 3. Then again, depending on the Rona he might well be playing for us when we least expect it...

As I said re Spence, let’s not write anyone off until we’ve seen them playing for Wilder.

Is there a batter manager outside the Premier League?

@paulinboro

Even now they are getting the brushes out to sweep their stupidity and avarice under the luxurious carpet. My only worry or concern is who holds the idiots to account? Let me guess. The fans? No. The clubs? No. Themselves? Meanwhile the goose keeps laying the golden eggs. Ridiculous. Mr Gibson should be ranging and focussing the telescopic sight.

Meanwhile the fans are delighted common sense prevailed. Or was forced to prevail.

I need a calming Estrella.

A Happy New Year and God Bless Diasboro.

John

Wow. That was a pretty amazing saga to wake up to. I didn’t bother to look at anything last night and only caught up with everything this morning.

Anyway, let’s be glad that logic just about prevailed and a happy new year from 2022 to those of you still in 2021.

I’m pleased that the match has been postponed as Sheffield United would have a decided advantage of several days rest over Boro. I did write earlier that I expected Boro to lose tomorrow, so let’s be thankful for small mercies that the postponement will give Boro the chance of winning the match when it is played. However the FA Cup match against Mansfield might well have to be played midweek now because of Covid isolation. All in all I’m quite happy with the situation even though it took several hours to reach the correct decision.

Strange happenings today before the game was called off.
Hopefully most of the players will recover for the Mansfield game and if not for the next championship game by which time one or two new players may be here.

Presumably Spence will be sorted - no point in waiting -either get him in or move on.
More importantly- certainly more important than football- let’s hope we all have a happy and healthy 2022.

Happy New Year to all Diasborians. I’m hoping for a better year than this year especially after the worst Christmas Day I’ve endured with diarrhoea and no food for two days.

The postponement of Boro’s match has at least given me the chance to start the New Year in the right way watching the New Years Day concert from Vienna, always the fillip for music lovers, unless of course this has been cancelled also.

Happy New Year to all Diasborians, and thanks to you all for your contributions to the best blog on the web and one that I look forward to reading several times every day.

The reason?

I can be assured that what will appear on here will be literate, intelligent, funny, well-informed, cogently argued, and tolerant of diversity and difference.  The antithesis of so much of what appears on social media. I couldn't be more appreciative.

Thanks to you all.

And let's hope that the Boro continue to be what we have not been for too many years now: a team that takes the game to the opposition, and plays entertaining football on the front foot. A team that tries to win games by playing positively rather than by stopping the opposition from playing.

Happy New Year everyone. We managed to get to 12.15am before heading to bed, albeit full of Baileys finest.
I’ve just realised that it’ll be 30 years this year since my Dad died at the age of 72 and if I follow suit, I’ve only got 6 years left.

Time to make more memories then, and promotion this year would be a good start, although there’s a heck of a long way to go.

I know how lucky we are to be financially secure (for the time being anyway) and to be fit enough to enjoy life still. My business partner died of MND, six months after we both retired, having sold the business to two employees and giving them the same opportunity we had. His death changed my outlook on life and I’ve spent the three years since his passing cramming in happy experiences with the love of my life. The pandemic hasn’t helped, but I know that however down we may feel about it, we’re still better off than many others who’ve suffered losses of family and friends over the last two years.
This isn’t meant as a maudlin post but rather a reminder to everyone that there’s one life, so live it. Carpe Diem, people.

Well - HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 to all Diasborians, wherever you may be!

I hope Ken gets well soon.  Hopefully feeling better already after a night's sleep for New Year's Eve.  Diarrhoea isn't nice at the best of times but over the Christmas/New Year period, and having nil-by-mouth for 48 hours, will make it feel even worse.  Plenty of drinks needed.

For the rest of us, I agree with Martin.  Let's enjoy what we have, whilst we have it.

For Boro - the sky seems to be the limit.  Entering the New Year full of enthusiasm and justified optimism seems odd for a Boro supporter, yet here we are. I hope the players feel like we do (or at least those who have no Covid symptoms because those with symptoms may be under the weather for the next week or so.  Hopefully young, fit and without any other health complications, I guess it is overwhemlingly likely that the players who DO suffer symptoms will bounce back without problems).

I will be going back to the North West Highlands of Scotland in a couple of weeks so I will miss the game against Reading at the Riverside. In a way it's a pity I'm not there now, as the weather is almost tropical, so driving up the A9 through the Grampian mountains will be ice and sleet-free and rather easier for the driving (though it is always attractive to see a dusting of snow on the tops).

Let's grab 2022 by the throat and wring everything we can (that is good) from it.

Happy New Year Everyone, this is going to be a good one I feel.

Hope you get well Ken, none of us are spring chickens anymore and so the same sentiment to all Diasborans.

My lad recovered from COvid but his mum and I didn't even get a snivel - even though we have been living on top of each other these past 2 weeks, Xmas being canceled. So there is the message for the Vaccine and the boosters. Booster number no 2 is planned for January.

Anyhow hope to see you all Wembley in the summer
