So ITV decide on their main channel to show the Swindon v Man City game tonight from 7.30 to 10.20. Who the hell is interested in that. Apart from the fans of both teams that is. Talk about overkill. Not everyone likes football. Why don't they put it on their other ITV channels.

I agree but my guess is that they will have been forced to pay well over the odds to screen the tie and will be desperate to maximise the advertising revenue. Putting it on ITV 4 just wouldn't cut the mustard with the fizzy drinks, vegan sausage and ladies personal hygiene manufacturers marketing departments.

@ken

In2Views

Thanks for your comments Ken regarding In2Views. If it’s acceptable to the other Diasborians I can transfer them to a section within the current format. I just hope that this will not exceed file formats and that Werder is ok with this.

I still have contacts with other former Boro Players and could do some new In2Views if others agree.

Regarding Doug Weatherall he isn’t very well these days and we managed to get his comments at a time when he was still able to contribute tomorrow blog for which I am grateful.

Djed Spence was mentioned by Chris Wilder and said that they had come to a commercial re-evaluation with Forest regarding the terms of the loan for Spence. This has enabled Boro to balance the books for paying for new arrivals joining the club. He also mentioned not damaging team spirit by having a player who didn’t want to be there and playing in a first team which wasn’t possible with the form of Isiah Jones. Wilder also mentioned that he already had two or three players who could fill in for Jones if he was unavailable.

Reports also coming out of Forest are that they want to make the transfer permanent eventually.

It sounds as if Boro are still somewhat all over the place in putting together a side for this game. It's not just a question of picking people who have tested negative because some may have been more badly affeeced than others by Covid and could do with extra rest before the Championship starts again.

One thing that may be a real help to CW and his team is that the FA Cup allows for five substitutions rather than three which may help to spread the workload around.

Given that a fair number of the Boro side picked will be recovering from illness and quite a few will never have played together before, it could be a difficult game and I would suggest that we cut them some slack. Personally, I just want to see the squad back in good condition for the next Championship game.

Actually, Everything from the old Diasboro Wordpress site has already been transferred to the Diasboro.club site when I set it up - it was on my to-do list to set up some form of Navigation menu to point to all the archive content but didn't get round to it.

Maybe, I'll be able to look into it in the next week since I'm on pause with my current house renovation project until I get the stitches out on a small minor op on my shoulder (unrelated to the DIY I hasten to add) - though since I'm a notrious quick healer I'd better not dwell too long 😉

Thanks to Andy for the Mansfield preview and hopefully Boro can safely negotiate to the next round. However, the FA Cup has for me long since joined the League Cup (or whatever it's sponsors now call it) in becoming a competition of little consequence or meaning. I don't even think clubs like Boro take it that seriously anymore and almost see a cup run as more a risk of complication for fixture congestion.

I couldn't even tell you who won it last season or any recent winners or finalists - I don't even remember the last time I watched the final. It used to be my highlight of the football year and I can remember watching all the finals of the 1970s and 80s - plus all the build up programmes before it. It was almost a whole day event but sadly its relative importance in comparison to the PL, or for some the Champions League, has made it just another distraction that sees mainly second-string teams turn out until about the quarter finals.

Also the end of replays has meant the early rounds for small clubs has reduced their chance of a glorious scalp - though the live TV coverage still uses the competition as an opportunity to show the usual big-club suspects, where the chance of an upset is remote as they now have 25 first-teamers regardless who they pick.

Perhaps if Boro avoid the bigger clubs in the next few rounds and make their way to the quarter-finals I may suddenly get cup fever - until we drawn away to Man City, Liverpool or Chelsea!

Anyway, doubt if there will be any unofficial feed of today's game as it's unlikely been chosen for live coverage somewhere - it will most likely be the invisible game for everyone bar the few thousand who make the trip to Mansfield with probably just the goals shown on the highlights later this evening.

Mind you if Boro get drawn at home to a top eight team in the next round then there's a good chance of being one of the live games.

Ok, given it's a 12:15 KO, there are some suggestions that the Boro tie may be being streamed live somewhere in the world - I shall have a look later for the possibility of unofficial streams.

Hi Werder it is being shown on one of the ESPN Channels (ESPN+) hence the request for the strange Kick Off time. It's also on SuperSport and NovaSport BG.

During the last four seasons as a Premier League club up to 2009 Boro had their most successful run in the FA Cup without reaching the Final. In 2006 they reached the Semifinal but lost 0-1 to West Ham, in 2007 they lost to  0-1 to Man Utd in the Quarterfinal after a 2-2 draw, in 2008 they again reached the Quarterfinal losing at home to Cardiff 0-2, and in 2009 they again reached the Quarterfinal but lost 1-2 at Everton despite scoring first. Considering that it was a rare occasion for a Boro to reach even the Quarterfinal prewar although they had done so several times after the war this was some achievement though they did reach the Final in 1997. However those four consecutive appearances during the late 2000s was quite a turnaround. Nevertheless their opponents in those four seasons all reached the Final but lost to Liverpool, Chelsea, Portsmouth and Chelsea again respectively.

Since then Boro have only once reached the Quarterfinal losing 0-2 at home to Man City in 2017. So I don’t expect Boro to reach that far this season, and it will be interesting to see what sort of a team Chris Wilder will be able to start with today at Mansfield because of Covid. This match won’t be a certain win today as Mansfield are on a good run of form. It could well result in a draw and a penalty shoot out, but I won’t be too concerned if Boro lose as progression would mean the postponement of Boro’s next home match against Coventry scheduled for the date of the Fourth Round when Boro’s aim main objective is to reach the playoffs.

Looks pretty much mainly a second-string team today!

The game is being streamed live in Australia on channel 10 plus. I’m not sure if that will help.

Boro good value for a 2-0 lead and could easily have had more. Cracking goal for Ikpeazu and really nice to see Boyd-Munce scoring so soon in his Boro career. He scored with his right foot but has a a lovely left foot and is fast and lively and not frightened to put in a challenge. He's a Northern Ireland junior international and I could see McNair talking to hm as they went off at half time. He'll be a great mentor for him and the kid looks like a real prospect. Should keep Tav on his toes.

The conditions are very wet but Boro are still playing the CW passing game when they can. His style demands a lot of running from the midfield 5 to create overloads and Kokolo and Gibson have been doing that well in the wide channels. Gibson laid on Boyd-Munce's goal with a Jones-like run in from the right and Kokolo laid on a cracking chance for Ikpeazu just before half time and the keeper made a stunning save.

Wood, Bamba and Peltier are standing up to the assault from the big men up front. Bamba has to be careful. He's on a yellow and it may be an idea to play it out a bit quicker because the short passes are creating some problems on the wet surface.

Well Boro may have started well with their two quick goals, but the end of the first half and most of the second it has been all Mansfield.

The Stags could and should really have done much better with their chances. We could not complain too much if it had been 2 all. The subs should improve things.

Well that was an exhausting watch after what looked like it would be a comfortable afternoon following that early 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, Mansfield were the better side from the 20th minute onwards and could easily have won the game on another day but a last gasp winner thanks to a combination of Jones pace and a sliced attempted clearance that ricocheted off another unfortunate Mansfield defender. Job done but it wasn't pretty or probably deserved on a heavy pitch. Dare I say an old-fashioned cup tie and maybe Boro's luck could see them go on a run this year...

What a proper cup tie, brilliant for the neutral, Jones to the rescue (they don’t like it up em), no matter what we are in the hat.

Come on BORO.

Great win for Hartlepool beating Blackpool 2-1, we couldn’t draw them could we, hope at the Riverside for more income for Pools.

Come on BORO.

In the last two games we have not played as well as previously but have managed to come out on top on both occasions, so well done on that front.

I just hope that we can get back to playing like we did against Bournemouth and Forest as we will need to if top six is to be achieved. 😎

Well, the changes in the second half didn't make us better at Mansfield.  We should have been 0-3 up at half time but Mansfield was better in the second.

We ride our luck again and then Jones made his first run with the ball. He played the ball nicely into goal line and the two Mansfield defenders tried to prevent the ball going to Hernandez.  Well done by Jones and we won the match.

A tight Cup tie. A win is a win and luckily we didn't need to play the extra time. We looked exhausted in the end.

Up the Boro!

@selwynoz

Boyd-Munce talked to Paddy before joining as they both grew up in the same area of Belfast and have met up at Irish Squads.

Paddy and Gorgeous George spoke to BM about how the fans were great at Boroand how great the training facilities were. Paddy told him it was brilliant to be at the Boro and BM at his  Boro press conference couldn’t contain his enthusiasm to get going and celebrated his debut today with a goal and a win !

@jarkko

Mrs OFB said Mansfield should have won and felt sorry for them especially the lad who scored the late og  !?

I pointed out that Boro hadn’t trained for a week and some players were probably feeling after effects of COVID.

That was probably a game we would have lost under Warnock.

I always remember the late great Bill Shankly who said if you aren’t a good manager make sure you’re a lucky manager! Hopefully Wilder is both a good manager and a lucky one.

So a win, no extra time and a few days rest before we turn to Reading at home .

As exmil said a great game for the neutral but not for CW and the Boro Fans.

OK a heavy pitch, which probably did not help us, and some effects from COVID still in some of our players.

However what it did probably prove was that the majority of the fringe / under 23 players are nowhere near the first team squad yet in terms of being included.

Wood looked suspect most of the game and apart from Kokolo, who looked lively, neither of the other two really enhanced their standing. Coburn especially needs to be loaned out to get more experience.

It also once proved to me that McNair is better in a back three than in midfield. Some very poor second half performances from some of our first team players and once more we were saved by Jones.

Still we are in the fourth round for the first in a number of years, hopefully another easy draw to give the fringe players game time.

I wasn't near the laptop so had to listen on BBCTees.  As people have said, we seemed to be good in the first half but Mansfield came back into it and will feel aggrieved at losing to a late injury time own goal.  But a win is a win.  Credit to Mansfield but we are in the draw for the 4th Round.

I see a few have mentioned how good it would be for Boro and Hartlepool to draw each other in the next round.  Maybe at the Riverside in order to get a bigger crowd (with Pools getting a big chunk of the gate money, that would be worth a lot to them).  At the Vic, it would be chock-a-block but a game at Boro would allow all fans who want to go, to get a ticket.  And no long journey needed.

Pleased for the new Norn Iron lad to get his first goal for Boro.  He sounds a decent, well grounded lad in his just-joined-the club and then his post-match interviews.  I hope he does well for us.  And Ikpeazu's goal will put him in the shop window.

Let's hope the squad can get a peaceful and healthy week ahead after this recent Covid blitz.  I will miss the Reading game next Saturday as I will be up in the far North West of Scotland again.  You can't get BBCTees online or otherwise ("for contractual or for technical reasons, we cannot bring you match coverage of the football...") up there so I might be following via Twitter.  Hopefully there won't be any "B****r!" messages from AV, but a couple of EIOs would be welcome....
