@martin-bellamy / Powmill

I’ve nearly finished my Wrexham preview but I’m waiting to see what happens tonight before finalising it tomorrow morning.

@clive-hurren Sorry Clive - my comment wasn’t meant as a criticism in any way, just a light hearted thought that there hadn’t been many posts for a few days. I think it’s always quieter when we win than when we lose, which is understandable really.

Bugger!  Ipswich a goal up in the 48th minute at St Mary's.  🙁

It’s all a bit nervy for me! A draw is I think what would be best for us or for Soton to win.

Saints now a goal up (80th minute).  I suppose we all know what'llll happen now:  the Tractor Boys will score again & then win a penalty in the dying seconds...

Even more nervous now - it’s almost as bad as watching Boro! Come on the red and whites!

Well, the first part of that was true:  Jack Clarke equaliser for the Tractor Boys in the 87th minute...

BBC said 5 minutes added time so where did the 7 come from?

Anyway a draw it is and leaves everything wide open for Saturday. Amazing that we are still in the mix although those dropped points are really coming back to haunt us.

@stircrazy - it is the hope that does indeed kill us in the end!

Let us keep sanguine. In the unlikely event that QPR hold Ipswich to a draw and the even less likely event that Millwall fail to beat Oxford, then we would only need to beat Wrexham by a margin of 5, but alao score at least 7 goals.

Time to start bombarding St.Jude, patron saint of lost causes, to see if he can arrange a little bit of divine intervention.

Talking of a Saint, it looks likely we will have to take on The Saints in the playoffs. Victory on Saturday important if we wsnt to plsy at home second.

@powmillnaemore

Yes. If those two results for Ipswich and Millwall happen as expected, then if we beat Wrexham we will finish fourth, which would give us a home game against Saints in the second leg. We could afford to draw with Wrexham, provided Saints either drop points at PNE or finish with a worse goal difference than ours. Or even if our GD and Saints’ are equal, that too would be enough for us to finish fourth, I presume, as we have the better head-to-head record against them.

But let’s not bother ourselves with what the others are doing - let’s just go out and get all 3 points on Saturday!

So it is more or less certain, Boro v Southampton. Which round, we will know mid Saturday afternoon.

A bit of late night maths:

Ipswich to lose is 9/1 Millwall draw is 17/4 and Boro win is 8/5 so by reckoning that is 1224/20 so 61.2/1. So would get that combination 1 in 62 times

The same odds as the former Prince Andrew signing up for I’m a Celebrity ……

I am sure a Diasborian will mark my homework if I have blotted my copybook!

@eboroacum I think those are the same odds as Aidan Morris hitting the back of the net with a shot from outside the box. *

* I’m hoping he now proves me wrong.

Kind of like our own recent game against Ipswich, really.

A matter of minutes and a Clarke intervention away from being something better, but when the dust settles we also realise it wasn’t far away from being a lot worse.

Let’s just go for the win in the final league game and see what happens. Given Wrexham need to open up and go for it, this could suit us.

I’m not a betting man, but I wish I’d had £100 on Morris NOT scoring this season!!

All the permutations don’t matter to me, if we beat Wrexham on Saturday the worst we will finish is 4th, which means we play the second leg at home and I will be back from Memphis in time to be at the Riverside.

Come on BORO.

Might be worth noting that if it hadn't been for that erroneous decision to award that Ipswich penalty (one which the Referees Association reportedly apologised to Boro for), then going into the final game Boro would've been second on 81 points and Ipswich third on 80. Instead, it's now odds on being the play-offs now and pondering who to avoid in the semi-finals.

Although, in reality Boro will probably have to play 2 of Ipswich, Millwall and Southampton to get to the PL so it doesn't matter in which order or over how many games. Still, let's beat Wrexham just in case that 60/1 accumulator from Eboroacum comes up!

I love the Championship,  me!

It will be a definately interesting Saturday now. Can it be more exciting?  But let's just enjoy the ride. We have nothing to lose now.

Up the Boro!

@werdermouth     Might be worth noting that if it hadn't been for that erroneous decision to award that Ipswich penalty (one which the Referees Association reportedly apologised to Boro for), then going into the final game Boro would've been second on 81 points and Ipswich third on 80.

And really all to play for.
When the stakes are high and the pot of gold in enormous ( it surprises me that they would apologise, which is saying the referee got it wrong)

If we win on Saturday, maybe Mr Gibson will seek damages for lost revenue, 100 million and counting. That is a big number for an incorrect decision.

He was allowed to referee Chelsea v Leeds in the FA Cup, but nothing else since Ipswich v Boro in any league games.
