CJ on the first half:

Much better from Boro. They've dominated that first half and created numerous positive openings with a much better tempo to their attacking play. Lovely goal from Hackney. Only complaint is they haven't made more of it to have at least one more goal. As we know with Boro, this one far from over, but that was really positive.

And after only 19 minutes:

When Boro get into the final third they're playing with a nice tempo and rhythm so far. Doak and Azaz linking well and Morris's return to the side is allowing Hackney to get more involved in that too

3 things - dropped Barlaser put Morris in and Ayling captain and Hackney then looks a different player

Game has totally changed. Can the manager adopt a plan B?

Barlaser on for Azaz in the 82nd minute, then, a minute later, Doak makes it 2-0 with a little help from ELL.  🙂

CJ:

Boro have a second! It's another stunner! Boro break and Latte Lath drives towards goal before spraying wide to Doak as Boro catch West Brom on the counter. Doak cuts in and from the corner of the D bends one left-footed into the far top corner.

Engel & Forss on for Burgzorg & Doak in the first of three minutes of injury time.  Looking as though Glover's going to keep a clean sheet!

Better. But a more confident team than WBA would have capitalised on the opportunities we allowed them in the 2nd half and we would have been out of it before Doak scored. I'll take a clean sheet and a 2 goal advantage though and let us hope it can be the start of the team getting together some confidence to go on a run.

Still need a keeper in and a left back and some options for left midfield/wing. If ELL does go, Whitaker from Plymouth would be good too.

Well that was a solid much needed win with the help of two great strikes from Hackney and Doak - with Hackney finally putting in a captain's performance after being relieved of the armband 😉

Although what made the difference was probably obvious to everyone watching - Morris just controlled the midfield and snuffed out trouble and recycled the ball like he'd never been missing.

Also thought Ayling did well given his absence and looked good going forward and despite Borges assisting Hackney he always looked backwards when in similar positions on the left.

Thought Carrick should've brought on fresh legs earlier as a few players looked out for the last 20 minutes - we've got a big squad so maybe use it to manage the game better - luckily we got a second goal as before that West Brom seemed most likely to score.

Still, well done to the players for working hard and keeping a clean sheet plus a few moves of quality going forward and some good strikes - up to 5th but some hard games ahead!

We saw out the second half storm and I’m still of the opinion that we deserved to win. Doak’s goal was a beauty - he knew it was in as soon as it left his boot.

Well, are we all feeling a little better after that positive performance? 😀😀

Amazing how the League table looks a lot better after a win and other results going Boro’s way.

Like others I hope Carrick plays a settled team. It seems that Morris was influential and has been missed.

I might have to add a bit more cheer to my Preston starter after that result. Thought Morris was brilliant in the first half.

@martin-bellamy   My MOtM, holding the team together. WBA were rather toothless upfront and as Powmill said, a better team would probably have caused us more problems.

Overall though, we defended quite well along with Borge. But frustrating he is, with his receiving the ball going forward and he just passes it back.

So, an improved performance, but must do better. PNE will be a tougher game of Saturday. Let’s hope Real Boro turn up and not “typical”.

Also for the fans. Four thousand I am told.

BEN Doak will see out the season at Middlesbrough with the cut-off for Liverpool to recall the winger having now passed, Michael Carrick has confirmed.

The Boro is back. I hope this is a new start and we will be back to our "normal" self again. I would like to think so. If we keep on playing like that, we will be fine in this leqgue.

Morris was immense - he was good and let Hackney play his normal game.

I agree with Werder, that Borges nearly always turns backwards, when he could attack. Is that because of instructions from Carrick or he just don't naturally want to attack. A big difference compared to Ayling on the other side.

But anyway, a good performance. WBA was a bit cautious to shoot. When in good position, they still passed instead of shooting. A bit like lacking in confidence. But we deserved to win with van den Berg and Fry superb. And the central midfielders working well again.

I am very happy - a win I predicted befohand. Up the Boro!

Well a wins a win, agree with OFB Hackney looked better when unburden from the captaincy, Morris adds better balance and he was my MOTM, clean sheet two goals what's not to like. For the positives there must be some negatives we need a LB Borges drifts inside and leaves acres of space also what has happened to Azaz he has looked a shadow of the player he was in November.

A desperately needed win just hope it gives us some confidence for the travails ahead......

It was pleasing to see that my pre match concerns did not materialise. Two excellent goals and three points were a much needed tonic after Saturday’s abject result.

That said, WB looked very much like us for most of the season, moved the ball about but lacked a cutting edge.  Had they taken the few chances the created it could have been a different outcome.

Hackney was certainly much better, aided by the return of Morris rather than the lack of an arm band me thinks. Azaz is just not firing, very few of his passes came off and he was dispossessed far too easily.  He also pulled out of one tackle that created defensive problems for us.

I was disappointed that MC did not shore up the mid field much earlier as WB dominated the play in the second half.  He still seems to lack the ability to change the shape of games tactically.

On to Preston for as tough a challenge as last night and to see if this is the start of something or just another false dawn. 😎

I after watching the Highlights of Boro 2-0 West Brom, I think Glover made two excellent saves and I cannot remmember him having a nervous pass or making any mistakes. Credit to him, he was good.

And the two goals were excellent. Seldomly we see any better ones scored.

Latte Lath had three half-chances. With better luck he could have scored one. A great match by all means. Up the Boro!

@jarkko

Morris made a major impact not a Morris Mini or Minor influence!

Morris will probably put Morris 1800 on the next gate !

Morris so smooth and performs well and brakes up the opposite midfield play.

Morris to score in the next game as he has a powerful engine and can just tappet in!

Morris looked exhausted after his performance last night.

Morris filtered all the misplaced passes out and gave them a battery ing !

@original-fat-bob - Nice bit of motoring journalism there.

I was delighted with the result. Two bits of excellence for the two goals. A CLEAN sheet. Morris improves the team enormously and clearly influences the midfield.  The centre backs and Ayling played well. We did benefit from WBA's failure to score when their opportunities beckoned.

But, all in all, much better. For  me the MoM was a difficult decision between Morris (who I finally plumped for) and Fry but there were others who played well and could be mentioned.

@k-p-in-spain    Yes, just what has happened to Azaz these last few games. I appreciate he is possibly marked a little tighter, but then so is Doak, and did NOT give up last night.

No, he is now back to his early season form when a few of us on here were questioning his team inclusion. As Len posted. He can produce that little piece of magic, but not for some time. He is also “lightweight” pushed off the ball with ease, and then hardly ever tries to recover the situation.
At this moment a luxury we cannot afford.

Also have to agree with KP. A couple of players were running on empty, especially Morris, but Carrick waited far too long to introduce his subs, and then brought on Barlaser which did little to improve things, apart from removing Azaz.

@k-p-in-spain and Pedro

I think that moment when Azaz pulled out of a tackle will certainly have been noted by his team mates. It's not on. If you have run yourself into the ground or put your body on the line with a tackle or by blocking a shot as most did on Tuesday night you will not hold back in criticising such a lack of physical commitment.

The last time I saw such a blatant example of pulling out of a tackle was by Martin Braithwaite away at Leeds. I think that finished him with his colleagues and ultimately the management. It certainly finished him with me. There were few regrets when he eventually moved in spite of his obvious talent
