Something that hasn’t been addressed on the blog is the post-Warnock years. I hope that he stays for at least one full year but, if he does, can the club use that time to help train up his replacement.

hindsight is a wonderful thing but I keep on asking myself what would have happened if he had been there to mentor Woodgate for six months. Looking ahead, should the club be trying to get a new manager on board to work with and then follow NW who could himself perhaps stay on board as a longer term consultant.

it can’t always be a case of getting in a new management team with very coach changed and six months of total disruption

If there is a win either way between Luton v Hull, and Boro lose to Cardiff ( all within the realms of possibility), then the last match Will be viewed by most from behind the sofa.

I think the reason Saville and Marvin are playing well is due to continuity. This could also apply to Friend. I like the way NW keeps thing simple, no square pegging and no swapping and changing for the sake of it.

Here’s one for you Ken. What’s the highest total of points a club has been relegated from the Championship with?

54 by Peterborough United in season 2012/13.

I can’t take too much credit for that. All I did was pose the question on the internet, and voila.

What you say makes sense, the only thing that worries me is the talk of training up the man we bring in. In the case of Woodgate any training  given him was a waste of time, as he never at any point showed any aptitude as a manager, as his disasters mounted his attempts to correct them became more demented. I would much prefer us to choose a manager who was already showing all the signs of a quality manager. On the same subject, but at a higher level, it was a no brainer to hire the manager of Leicester City, he was available and had just failed to win the league with Liverpool, so no learning process there then.

Warnock staying on would make a lot of sense. The club is in a bit of a crisis in my view, just as it was last summer, and an experienced, steady hand who knows this league better than anyone I can think of, as well as someone who has now worked with the club for a period and has begun to understand the problems, is ideal to guide us through that crisis.

My only concern is that, a bit like Pulis, he builds the team in his own image over a few seasons and leaves the next man with a deskilled squad only capable of playing functional football, and the cycle repeats.

In short, I think Warnock is an ideal candidate for the short-term but have concerns about the longer term.

On the final day Luton play Blackburn at Home while Hull are away to Cardiff. If Hull and Luton don't draw on Saturday then I think its better that Hull win. The logic is that I can see Luton beating Blackburn but I can't see Hull beating Cardiff in South Wales.

According to the Hartlepool Mail Boro, Bristol City and Birmingham City are all interested in Wigan’s Paul Cook becoming their next manager. In Boro’s case presumably if Neil Warnock doesn’t want to continue.

I just think its lazy journalism. Its obvious that Cook is doing a great job in a terrible situation and that with Wigan being in a mess he may be tempted to walk away from an impossible situation not of his making in the summer break.

As Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City etc. are not looking for Managers the Journalist just kept going down the leagues until they found two clubs without a Manager and one with a Temp in charge who just so happen to also be in the Championship. I am sure he has caught attention from Directors at those clubs and admiring glances from Birmingham especially but that will be all. Still it filled a few column inches for the Journalist and even earned them a few clicks online for their troubles and thats what pays his wages I suppose.

I think he's a decent Manager but I think I'd rather have Warnock's experience and proven Championship promotion criteria.

August 29th is being mooted as a possible start for the new Championship season. Not a lot of time for someone brand new to start in the job as manager. Perhaps with his head start NW is a no brainer to carry on.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that Boro have met exactly 100 different clubs in League matches in their history and that Wycombe Wanderers will be the 101st. Thankfully there will be no additions to that total next season for if Boro were to be relegated they would have added the names of Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town and Rochdale to that list at the expense of Wycombe. I also mentioned that 10 of the current 100 clubs we’ve only met once home and away and asked which clubs they were. Though there were no takers the answer is:-

Burton Albion 2017/18 Won 2-0 at home Drew 1-1 away

Chester City 1986/87 Lost 1-2 at home Won 2-1 away

Colchester United 1966/67 Won 4-0 at home Won 3-2 away

Crewe Alexandra 1997/98 Won 1-0 at home Drew 1-

Milton Keynes Dons 2015/16 Won 2-0 at home Drew 1-1 away

Newport County 1986/87 Won 2-0 at home Won 1-0 away

Torquay United 1966/67 Won 4-0 at home Lost 1-2 away

Workington 1966/67 Won 3-2 at home Won 2-1 away

Yeovil Town 2017/18 Won 4-1 at home Won 4-1 away

York City 1986/87 Won 3-1 at home Lost 1-3 away

@ken I’ll confess that Burton was the only one I got!
