Could anyone please comment how strong team Brighton is fielding today? We made just one change from the latest match. But how about them?
Up the Boro!

I see that MacAllister is on the bench - who was the last World Cup winner to play at the Riverside?
@stircrazy Yes, that who they will play. But is it a weakened or a full first team? Just wondering...

Up the Boro!
Looks pretty strong to me: Mitoma, Ferguson, March & Groß all scored in the Seagulls' 4-1 win aganst Everton earlier in the week.
@stircrazy Thanks. And they look strong on the field. And they are 1-0 up now.
Up the Boro!
! - ! Akpom from Giles cross (or Steele og?)

That goal was scored by Groß in the eighth minute, but Chuba equalised five minutes later - Vic:
I've been watching through my fingers for most of the game as quick and slick Brighton bossed it but the first time Boro break out in numbers they have forced an equaliser. Great response.
I think this is not the first time Smith has forgotten his man on the back post! UTB l
Brighton scored again! 1 - 2
This time Adam Lallana, assisted by Mitoma. 🙁
Take Forss off and bring jones on give them something to think about on right hand side as smith under pressure
OFB
According to Radio Tees Smith has told Forss to drop back to give him cover. Perhaps Jones would also help cover with his speed though this would not help our attacking. It also sounds as if Brighton are having success down our left which isn't a surprise as I think we all know Giles is very much a winger who does his best to fill the left back role.
Brighton bring on a sub - World Cup winner!
Brighton 3 - 1! Flick from the World Cup Winner.
Archer on for Crooks in the 68th minute.
Brighton 4 - 1, MacAllister again
Brighton 4 - 1, MacAllister again
Wind him up & watch him go... 🙁
@david-in-cumbria. Down to earth with a big bump and becoming embarrassing.
Just hope this doesn’t impact on our league form. 😎
1-5 (Undav). We're well & truly stuffed. 🙁
Vic's verdict on the World Cup winner:
Well, Alex Mac Allister definitely hasn't been distracted by the World Cup. He's scored two, rippled the roof of the net, grazed the post and generally buzzed about, creating and knitting things together. He's not bad.
Not surprised we lost as Brighton are playing well to be so high in the PL. Disappointing to be hammered. Now we will see how Carrick gets us back in form for the Championship.

Vic's overall assessment:
FT: 1-5. A real football lesson today. But no disgrace. Brighton were brilliant: fluid touches, dynamic, inventive, intelligent movement, clinical. It shows the chasm between top of the PL and where Boro are & where need to be. Decent first 45 but quality told in the end.
P.S. The Tricky Trees stuffed, too, 4-1 by Blackpool. 😉
Well, I don’t think any of us saw that result coming. I always thought that if both teams played at their best then Brighton would win but not by 4 goals.
What did we re learn? The gap between the top teams in the Premiership are on a much higher plateau to Championship teams and Boro can’t keep a clean sheet.
The most important thing now is to get back to the League matches and hopefully pick up from where we left off and for the team and MC to erase this result from their memories.
Philip of Huddersfield
Well that was a chastening experience I don't think we were even 2nd best, when was the last time we were completely done by the opposition at home an absolute chasm in class
And that my friends was Boro’s biggest FA Cup defeat in our lifetimes, since 1937 in fact when Boro lost 1-6 at Molyneaux in 1937, and their highest FA Cup home defeat since losing 1-5 at home to STAVELEY by the same score at the old Paradise Ground in Boro’s inaugural FA Cup match in 1883 (yes, over 140 years ago).
Like all of us I didn’t see that scoreline coming, although I never once expected Boro to win nor even force a replay. It is perhaps a harbinger of what to expect in the Premier League next season if we surprise most of us by returning to those heights next season.
PaulinBoro
You asked when Boro were last humiliated so much? Well, the league match at home to Arsenal 1-6 in 1999 and again 0-4 at home to the Gunners in both of the home defeats in the 2001/02 and 2003/04 seasons come to mind, and yet Boro won home and away in the semifinals of the Carling Cup also in 2004. So nil desperandum!
