MIDDLESBROUGH officials are close to signing off on a loan agreement that will see James Lea-Siliki complete a season-long move from Rennes to Teesside.

As revealed in this morning's Northern Echo, Boro have stepped up their interest in Lea-Siliki significantly in the last 48 hours.

Talks between the Teessiders and Rennes have now reached an advanced stage, with sources claiming a deal should be completed ahead of this evening's 11pm deadline.

Lea-Siliki is primarily a central midfielder, although he has also played in a number of differnt positions down the left-hand side during his time in Ligue 1.

@k-p-in-spain

The club have completed the loan signing of Slovenian international striker Andraz Sporar.

The 27-year-old joins from Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Sporting CP.

Sporar brings plenty of experience, having made over 300 career appearances, scoring 141 goals. He was the top goalscorer in Slovakia two years in a row and he also won the Slovak Super Liga title in 2019, bagging 34 goals in 36 games for Slovan Bratislava.

Boro boss Neil Warnock said: “He was a player who was highlighted early in the summer. We chased and persevered and we’ve got it over the line. He’ll be a more than useful addition to the squad. We’ve only got Uche and Josh so we’re delighted to get him.”

Sporar is currently on international duty with Slovenia where he faces World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia, Malta, and Croatia before returning to join up with his new teammates ahead of the trip to Coventry City on Saturday week.

Sporar is the 11th signing of a busy summer for Boro. The transfer is subject to the relevant international clearances being received.

We have signed 12 new players this summer. But not a left back yet 😉.

So I expect us to sign another striker as well as left back cover for our smiling Bola, too.

Three hours to go. Up the Boro!

PS. At last a left-footed player was signed in Lea Siliki. Excellent.
