@grovehillwallah

I can explain why the FA decided to play at Wembly. They are trying to sell it, because getting enough events/matches played there each season was becoming a chew, so they were never going to allow a cup semi final to escape their clutches.

Forget the Wigan situation, if Boro cannot get something at Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton win at Leeds them maybe Boro deserve to go down rather than Charlton

Do we get the best out of our players?

Although on the bench tonight, Bamford and Harrison have been the first names on the team sheet for Leeds all season. At Boro they spent a lot of time watching the game then removing splinters.

I bet NW wishes he had them at his disposal

If Steve Gibson wants to keep on keeping it in the family, there is a young manager out there who came through the Boro Academy and made 24 appearances for the first team. In twelve seasons in management he’s won six league titles, four cups and three league cups.

Any guesses?

Are we talking about a manager of a continental club?

No, though he has managed outside England.

Supporting a football club is almost like a religion, we follow it through thick and thin, our faith and support severely tested but remains unquestionable for many. Like religion there will be those who find the merest hint of disaffection as heresy and those who are on the doubting Thomas end of the scale (ahem, clears throat!) let alone those who have lost the faith or indeed are footballing atheists. This board is just a cross section of the above as in all walks of life.

Football stories like political or indeed any news story is exactly that, unless and until they actually occur at which point they become factual. I doubt many of us believe half the stories about the current US President (either pro or anti) let alone the stories about Covid-19 be it on vaccines or governmental competencies or otherwise.

Digging into Gazette archives they had us linked in days gone by with James Collins, Jon Walters, Matt Phillips, Bradley Dack and even Josh Murphy when he was at Norwich. None of those came to pass, it doesn't mean that they were lies, mistruths or just rumours as they were all factually incorrect but it did mean that people read the Gazette or more likely in this day and age clicked on their site. If there is nothing of interest or relevance then nobody is attracted to it or will simple move on and read something elsewhere.

Its would appear that these days the Gazette no longer report on anything MFC related without it being rubber stamped with a seal of approval from the Chairman himself. That isn't healthy and therefore other streams of news or titbits on matters relating to something that many of us have an unhealthy passion about are eagerly sought. Recently rival newspapers have announced things ahead of the Gazette whilst awaiting official approval. Football fans have a voracious appetite and therefore will always be interested in reading about their passion, their love, their club.

Organisations sometimes "leak" things to determine public reaction to see if they will get away with it and even when its clear that they won't (Barnard Castle comes to mind) they still bulldoze ahead. Presumably its in preparation to better equip them to deal with potential fallout or indeed to milk approvals to the maximum.

When exactly a rumour or a story becomes fact or dismissed as a lie is a very difficult line to determine and usually blurred. It is up to individuals whether we believe or whether we dismiss outright what we read or hear (Brexit?) but for me personally I'd rather hear it and decide to believe or ignore it. Covid-19 and credibility of who did or didn't tell the truth back in December/January is an extreme example of what can happen when things are hushed up and people treated like mushrooms.

For me I'd rather read OFB's snippets and dismiss them or be intrigued by them in much the same way as I do reading about supposed "outstanding candidates". Some people bought a planned, staged PR news conference in its entirety whilst others instantly dismissed it as hyped up nonsense designed to conceal other facts. There are some who still and always will resolutely believe that conference and others who point to it as fans being deliberately misled. Most will probably be somewhere in the middle but that is down to personal choice. Just because something can be googled doesn't make it real nor the fact that it isn't in the public domain make it false.

Time as always will be the judge of what is reported and so long as something isn't deliberately made up, defamatory or borderline litigious then as with all things on here and elsewhere the public will make up its mind be it on big red buses or weapons of mass destruction.

Great post RR and absolutely spot on, every word, not just the abridged snippet here.

I'm technically on holiday now so I'm just occasionally dipping into the forum and just catching up while eating dinner.

Anyway, it looks like we had another of those typical online conversation misunderstandings that happens when one person perhaps phrases a question perhaps a little to bluntly and the other then perceives it as an affront - I think we should remember online conversation etiquette is much harder than face-to-face discussion as we never really know the emotion in which it was delivered. I think that's why emoticons were created 🙂

Although  I'm noticing everyone is still struggling to get the hang of the discussion forum concept as we're now onto page 5 on a thread about 'Boro 1 - 3 Cardiff' though nobody has even mentioned the games for the last three-and-a-half pages 😉

OK, I know old habits die hard but the theory of a forum is if you post something, especially a substantial post (that is not in any way related to the current topic) you should consider starting a new thread if what you are discussing isn't already broadly covered by an existing thread.

Otherwise, we probably need to instead have broader threads that are not match-related. The idea is that in the future discussions about certain topics can be easily found if they are revisited and not that you try to figure out during which game that topic was discussed.

Never mind, at least everyone is still enjoying posting and discussing all things Boro - I'm just offering the view of a curator though I'm beginning to suspect their is no cure for the existing intuitive approach ingrained in everyone's consciousness - I think since I became German I'm becoming more obsessed with being organised 🙂

@werdermouth,

Perhaps with your newly self-diagnosed OCD you could have a word with the EFL about organisation and tidiness in their dealings with their members. Better still perhaps you could be in charge? As for the EFL, even Sepp Blatter could have made a better job (and himself richer).

They must be a laughing stock in the game but in reality their shambles is both serious and farcical, and just who are these three people 'running' the independent enquiry. I say 'running' instead of managing but it/the  enquiries appear stationary, they're probably some mates getting a nice fat fee for their words, wisdom and expertise. I reckon that there should be an enquiry into the EFL. You can but dream can't you?

Len Shackleton's theory about club directors should be applied to the EFL, and they say football clubs are badly run. There'll be more stupidity, fudging and shiftiness to come this week as the suits hunt for reverse and a solution to their mess. Premier League 2 is needed and leave the EFL with their LEGO and other toys of choice.

Happy days,

UTB,

John

OK, I decided to tidy up this thread and have move many of the posts into two new threads, which will have a lifetime beyond the few days of a post-match thread.

The two threads are...

Speculation on Appointments and Players

Will clubs incur points deductions for breaking the rules

In addition, Jarkko has kindly started the Sheff Wed v Boro preview thread

So I'm going back on holiday again - I'll check later if I've managed to organise correctly 🙂

@andy-r

Must be the former manager of Hartlepool United, Craig Harrison who overcame a horrific injury and subsequent depression to go on and manage Welsh Premier League side The New Saints to a world record 27 consecutive wins in all competitions.

Up the Boro!

@redcarred

I love it when 'stories' are judged as to their credibility by anyone, no matter how intelligent they may be.

Consider the following, someone whispers into your shell like, 'they tell me that Woodgate has not been chased from the building'. " Gerraway, its not possible that he could be allowed on the premises after his all round performance,(that would be the worst results in the clubs history)"  ' oh he won't be managing, he's going to scout for players and decide who comes and who goes'.

Fancy you believing that rubbish, and spreading it around, you would be a fool.

ER!!!!
