Good second half performance against a poor side.

How many bookings is that now for Crooks   13?  I said previously he won’t get to the season end without a three game ban. He was niggling all night and could of been booked earlier. Stupid comes to mind.

I agree with Philip, that the criticism  of Jones is unfair and unjustified. He cannot get an 8 or 9 every game. Crooks’ performances have not helped.

I went for a draw in the Exmil challenge but I’m going to upgrade my prediction to a 2-0  win, with Connolly and Balogun scoring in each half.

Finally got one right!

Well a much better second half performance and in the end a deserved win enabled by an excellent goal from Balogun who along with Connolly probably had their best games since arriving.

A battling team effort against a poor Brum side so let’s not get carried away as there will be more difficult games to overcome during the run in.

I suspect that we will need to win at least six of the remaining games to be in with a shout of top six but fear that it may well go down to goal difference!

I wasn’t particularly concerned about our FA cup game against Chelsea until yesterday. I now want the Riverside faithful to make their feelings known about Chelsea’s appalling conduct and the team to do what they have done to two other PL sides. CoB 😎

Congratulations, that's some tipping, Andy.

Got any intuitions about lottery numbers?

Sadly not. And for context, I had only 1 winner from 6 at Cheltenham yesterday. This was very much the exception!

I watched the game last night and tbh never felt that we wouldn’t win. I thought Connolly did ok - he held the ball up pretty well and was let down a couple of times by badly weighted passes.
I wouldn’t throw any criticism at IJ - he did more than enough to earn his place. He can’t be at the highest of levels every week, particularity as teams start to work out our plan to get the ball to him as often as possible. I really like his decision making although he doesn’t always get it right. A lot of tricky wingers rely on getting to the byline every time to put crosses in, but he often plays the ball inside the box to team mates who’ve made a decent run into space.
After all the criticism of our goalkeeper, I think we should have a rethink. He’s done really well over the last few games and our defence looks more comfortable and confident in his ability.
Birmingham we’re poor last night and I wonder how much the state of their pitch is affecting their home performances. It looked very bumpy and I reckon the ball bobbled as PM hit his shot after that brilliant run in the first half.
On to Chelsea then and as I’m going up to the Highlands to visit my daughter on Friday and coming back on Saturday, I’ll probably not be able to watch the game live. I’ve just got to make sure I’ve not seen or heard the result before we get home. 🤞🏻

Started off with a Malbec, Powmill, and then moved on to a bottle of Pinot Noir as I listened to the game.  Not all on my own, of course, as son-and-heir ate with us and the post-prandial PN was shared with Mrs Dormo.  A good result and a nice, mellow evening, all in all.

EXMIL CHALLENGE 2022 - Postponements

Due to success in the FA Cup the following fixtures have been postponed and will probably appear in Part 3 of the challenge:

Fulham v Forest

Boro v Cardiff

I have therefore removed the fixtures from everyone’s entry which alters every final total as such:

e.g. If you predicted Fulham to draw with Forest I have deducted 1 point for both teams total and if you predicted Boro to beat Cardiff, I have deducted 3 points from Boro’s total.

I think this was the fairest way to adjust for the postponements, hope everyone is in agreement.

Come on BORO.

The first I heard about the Chelsea shenanigans was this morning. It must have been a Hiroo Ononda moment because I’m too sleepy to have my iPad, TV or radio on all day awaiting news. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, but not for the Japanese soldier who spent 29 years in the Philippines jungle hiding from the enemy until 1974.

Mind I did manage to move all my food into two fridges whilst I spent an hour defrosting the freezer with a hairdryer from a safe distance, mopping up the melted ice, and reinserting the food back into the freezer whilst listening to music in the meantime, so at least one productive hour between sleep and ablutions.

@Exmil

I must have had a brain freeze. When i submitted my entry I put Huddersfield starting number as 58 and not 59. It doesn't make any difference to my picks but I thought that I'd point out my mistake.

Having watched the highlights of the last two games I am beginning to like the look of Balogan, the back heel for the opener was really good and on the Tees commentary it wasn't obvious that he was outside the box. At least no booking for Howson but an obviously silly one from Crooks, nine games to go can he avoid 3 bookings? As I read it the suspension would not include the playoffs and the FA cup is separate. I had a look at the up coming fixtures to see if our destiny is in our own hands and it probably is, at the moment, we only play one of the play off hopefuls, Huddersfield, whilst Huddersfield play QPR, Luton and Sheff U twice. Luton also play Forest and Millwall. It will make for an interesting end to the season and may even include trips to Wembley.

I must admit that error slipped past my check so I have increased your Huddersfield finish total to 69.

After Boro started well, for the first 5 minutes, Birmingham seemed to have got on top for the next 20 without really threatening to score so it was a relief when we got going again. I thought Connolly and Balogun had their best games so far and certainly put in a lot of work but I wish we could hold the ball up front for longer. Good goal from Balogun; hopefully more to come. A much needed away win,
