I think that is just noise and paper talk instigated probably by his agent. The last position we need to fill now is with another midfielder.

Now a left sided CB. That would be an addition.

Gavin Okeroghene Bazunu is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Portsmouth, on loan from Manchester City. He started his career at Shamrock Rovers, making his first team debut in June 2018 at the age of 16, before joining Manchester City in February 2019.

Bazunu:- Portsmouth manager stated today there is no clause in the loan deal for Man City to recall Bazunu and expects him to remain as his number 1 keeper for the rest of this season.

Come on BORO.

Why don't we recall Coulson back now that we play with wing-backs again? I  know he has been injured but also Bola is injured now.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has revealed that Matt Penney and Hayden Coulson are both making good progress from their respective injuries.

Coulson has not featured for Ipswich since their meeting with Wycombe Wanderers in November and recently went back to his parent-club Middlesbrough to undergo treatment on his injury.

Ipswich may need to call upon the services of Coulson this weekend due to the fact that Kane Vincent-Young is set to miss the club’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday after picking up a red card during last night’s meeting with Wimbledon.

So Coulson looks like being fit again. We need cover for the left-hand side in our team. Up the Boro!

Ah but what if it wasn’t going to be a loan deal but a purchase ? Would that be excluded also for Bazanu to move from Portsmouth to Boro?

Why cannot we sign this Danish midfield player? He surely needs a chance to get playing.

Christian Eriksen

He has been training with Ajax to keep fit as he is without a club now. Up the Boro!

jarkko if Coulson cannot get a regular start for Ipswich, what makes you think he would get a start for Boro, in my opinion he is just the same as Wing, division 1 (if that) at best. It would be like bringing in a last minute (panic) buy on the last day of the transfer window

Come on BORO.

I think you will find he is about to join Premiership Brentford.

McGree scored a cracking goal for Australia last night in WC qualifier against Vietnam. Cracked it in from the edge of the box …. with his right foot.

Worth seeking out online.

@exmil I think Coulson was good enough in his first season at the first team level. Before Warnock that is. Big mouth didn't like wing-backs, though.

Yes, I liked Spence more on the right side but his form dipped much sooner. I admit it is difficult to say too much about Coulson from the first season.

I think he has not played much at Ipswich yet. But he has been injured first at Boro and then again at Ipswich. He might do his comeback for Ipswich on Saturday.

Up the Boro!

I wouldn't write anyone off until they've played a string of games under Wilder. We've got a completely different way of playing the game now which will suit some and not others.

It's a great time for attacking fullbacks/wingbacks and a bad time for wingers (unless they can be converted to wingbacks) and target men. A great time for players with natural energy/fitness and technical skills, not so good for those who are more about power than skill. The exact opposite of Warnock/Pulis really.

Coulson does fit the mould on the face of it but his injury record is a big concern, especially when we've already got Marc Bola with similar problems. Coulson has also got it all to prove in terms of quality but he does appear to be the template Wilder player and, as I say, I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Just read the posts re. The man. Utd. Goalkeeper loan. If they are doing us a favour then they will need something in return, And I would guess that it would be first go at buying Jones when the time comes.

If we don't get anyone else in, I wonder if Wilder will recall Coulson or Wing.

He's shown that he will keep the likes of Coburn and Brynn around the squad for emergencies rather than loaning them out. Neither Coulson or Wing are getting any benefit for us or them on loan and they're presumably on low wages so they might be recalled to be 3rd choice left wing-back and right midfielder respectively.

I don't think it will happen but at the moment with Bola being injury prone and it being unclear whether Payero will make the grade this season it might be an option. Our current 3rd choice LWB is possibly McGree/Boyd Munce/Tav/Peltier none of whom show any sign of wanting to play that role.  Our 3rd choice right midfielder doesn't seem to exist and probably requires putting McNair up there or putting McGree or Tav on their wrong foot.

As I say, I don't think it will happen but it might be something they're exploring.

Hmm. Just about Premier League quality but another right-footed central midfielder?

Not a move I would have made to be honest.

I suggested on Untypical Boro that we should buy this lad in 2013 when he looked a promising prospect and scored a goal against us that turned out to be Derby's Goal of the Season.

That would have been a shrewd move then.

 But much less so now.

He's really detested by Newcastle fans, and getting himself sent off against Southampton earlier this season was the final straw. He has been described by some of them as the worst midfielder regularly playing in the Premier League.

Maybe the Irish connection has been influential. Paddy knows him well and Hendrick's form has been far better for his country than for his club.

I assume that we will want him on loan.  He's on 50 grand a week, so presumably the arrangement will be similar to Balogun's.

Personally, if we are looking at likely Newcastle spares, I'd rather we were in for one of the Longstaff brothers.

@Andy R

The move for Hendrick makes some sense to me. He would provide experienced cover for Howson without the need to move McNair out of the back three. However, there's no way that we should pick up that kind of salary. Newcastle can afford to pay most of it.

Another midfield player who has not played for …..how long. Surely not. We only have seven place on the bench, six when you take out the goalkeeper.

Are starting to allow for suspensions and injuries? If so, well we better had cover for young Jones.

Hayden Coulson is set to return to Middlesbrough before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

The 23-year-old has had an injury-hit spell with the Blues making only six appearances since signing in August.

The Gateshead-born full-back was expected to remain at Portman Road until the end of the season but his loan deal included the provision for his return to the Riverside during January.

Clark is another one that Newcastle will be only too happy to be rid of.  He's made far too many costly errors and has not had a happy season.

We shouldn't be giving too much credence to the fact that he has played in the Premier League. So did a large number of our own squad whom we were happy to clear out when we were relegated.

I'll be sad to see Uche go, and suspect that he will prosper at Milwall if the crowd let him.
