Henderson would be a superb signing. I mentioned I would only get a keeper in if we can find a top one or one with massive potential. Henderson is both.

Sounds too good to be true to me.

@jarkko

Attacking two:

Balogun (U21),

I think that I read somewhere that an incoming loan player counts as part of the 25 even if they are under 21.

That would be brilliant OFB.

However given that Henderson will be asking be to go out on loan to try and get into the England squad, it would put Man U in a somewhat vulnerable position. If de Gea was to be injured then at the moment I think 35 year old Tom Heston would be the number two.

@Selwynoz

Sorry, I do not know. I presumed all U21 were excluded.

Anyway, there is room on our EFL list if we can unload the three players Wilder  mentioned as Hernandes went already.

Up the Boro!

Now official! Lee Cattermole has rejoined Boro.

Lee Cattermole has been appointed as the club’s new Under-18s lead coach.

The 33-year-old returns to the club where it all started, and is back in the Academy working with young players who will be aiming to follow in his footsteps in the game.

Just wonder if Leads would join Boro one day, too. Like as a lead coach, for example. Up the Boro!

Cattermole became Middlesbrough's youngest-ever captain aged 18 years and 47 days when he skippered the side in their 1–0 defeat away against Fulham on 7 May 2006.

During the game, Middlesbrough's oldest-ever player, Colin Cooper, came on as a substitute and Cattermole sportingly gave the captain's armband, without instruction, to Cooper who was playing his last game before retirement.

BTW. Young Josh Coburn (D.O.B: 6 Dec 2002) was captain vs. Reading during the two Boro goals on Saturday. But he was a bit over 19 year old by then.

Up the Boro!

I really like this appointment. Firstly, Cattermole will surely pass on the total commitment that he brought to every game but also, in my opinion, he was technically a much better player than he was often given credit for.

Some more joined up thinking

🚨 Tottenham and Wolves have agreed a €24m fee for the transfer of Adama Traoré.

Wonder if we have a sell on clause???

Not bad for a player with 1 goal and 0 assists this season, although has 4 MOTM according to Who scored.

So Henderson played two seasons under Wilder at Sheffield United while on loan from Manchester Utd.  The gaffer knows more about the keeper than the current manager at the Devils.

Interesting to see what happens in there. His contract expires at United on Jun 30, 2025.

Up the Boro!

Thanks Bob.  I have just seen the Gazette's piece this morning on the current state of play in the transfer window.  In spite of its length it tells us nothing new and is much less well informed than your own excellent updates.

Keep them coming . They are much appreciated.

Seeing that Traore was sold after Wolves triggered his transfer clause I doubt that we were in a position to add any sell on clause.

Come on BORO.

I’m not aware Wolves paid the full transfer fee although it was close to it and I’m also not aware that a sell on clause was not negotiated by Boro when Traore left.

I doubt it happened but it would actually have been smart of Boro to sell him for less than his release clause if it meant we could have a decent sell-on.

You could argue selling him might have cost us millions more in Premier League money but he would have gone anyway.

Supposed to see Traore playing today for Wolves against Scunthorpe and having a goal disallowed!

Interesting OFB that the Dean Henderson rumours keep going.

Personally, I just cannot see it. He is their number two goalie and three is Heaton.

If he were available there are more a few EPL clubs that would take him.

I know he wants first team football to enhance his England chances, but I just do not see Man U being sympathetic.

As I said previously, lose De Gea and they potentially could be in deep do do.

That’s not to say I would not take him. although could we afford the loan fee and wages. I doubt it.

The rumours about Henderson could just be wishful thinking even Wilder seems to admit that all the signings have been made in t no a window.

I’m a little concerned about Hartlepool’s League form at the moment, only one win in the last 12 matches yet unbeaten in 9 Cup matches. It doesn’t make any sense to me. They’ve reached the Quarterfinals of the EFL Trophy and have beaten several clubs in a higher league than themselves away from home as well, namely Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers. They now face another League One club at home against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, just two wins away from a Wembley appearance. They are still in the FA Cup as well away to Crystal Palace, although that may be a bridge too far.

They’re also looking for loan recruitments in the January window especially from Manchester United and Arsenal academy teams. That takes me back to their halcyon days of the 1950s when Fred Westgarth was their manager and he had some arrangement with the Gunners then of taking a couple of their players on loan. It would be a shame if Pools were to be relegated this season after all their fine efforts last season, as I reckon that the National League is the most competitive of all the leagues to gain promotion from. Just look at the number of former EFL clubs competing there this season  -  Aldershot, Barnet, Chesterfield, Grimsby, Halifax, Notts County, Stockport County, Torquay United, Wrexham and Yeovil Town plus up and coming Boreham Wood and Bromley. That’s half the clubs making up the current League.

A Wembley appearance is no substitute for League status or promotion, just ask Sunderland, the current holders of the EFL Trophy.

Whilst agreeing that Boro need a more reliable goalkeeper than the present incumbents, the great Leeds United team of the 1960s couldn’t decide between their two international goalkeepers Gary Sprake and David Harvey who were both prone to several mistakes between them as I recall.

I see that Mr Zahawi has tweeted the admirable sentiment that Islamophobia needs to be "routed out" of his party.

He is Secretary of State for Education.

I spoke to  Gary Gill to say amd we were having a chat and talked about the Boro obviously. He said that he had watched Folarin Balogun for a few years with interest and really rated him as a striker for being quick and accurate.
