SORRY. That post was meant to be in reply to one from OFB expressing some concerns about the referee before the Swansea game.
It was not only the bad decisions at Swansea, it was the complete abandonment of any concept of being a Referee. The First major point I would make is, a person being paid to referee a game at a very good level, could and should have the competence to recognise and stamp out serious diving, because those Swansea players did not just go down, they really hit the ground whenever they lost the ball, or simply failed to get the ball in the box or any place on the pitch, and they continued rolling, plus cries of agony, plus clutching their leg. It is pointless for any Referee to simply note the fact, that leaves the players free to carry on playacting, it is his duty to halt the game and inform the entire team that the next one to try it will get a red.
