I was taught by a Miss Keeley at At Joseph's primary in Grove Hill away back in the 60s... she may have been a Mrs. ...but my memory is challenged. I remember her being big on history, in particular her favourite period the Jacobite Rebellions
@chris-hunneysettits amazing where this blog meanders off to isn’t it?
It’s just like mates rabbiting on in the pub !

@paulinboro Where is Ayala heading to? I am afraid he might not find a club in the current situation ...
Up the Boro!
@jarrko
I've been thinking the same thing about Ryan Shotton. Could he be a surprise returnee as a really solid squad player?
I feel sorry for Werdermouth after all his hard work that some folk tend to wander off the subject. Why not set up separate sections under the Middlesbrough FC section with different subjects such as follows:-
1. Match reports and forthcoming matches.
2. Transfer speculations and incoming/outgoing transfers.
3. Ex Boro players.
4. Historical matches.
5. How and where to watch Boro matches on TV and technology problems and suggestions, etc.
6. ExMil Challenges (already in existence).
7. Any other subjects affecting Boro.
Similarly use the General Discussion Section about other Sports with separate sub-sections. We already have Cricket, Golf and Rugby League, why not Formula 1, Speedway, Snooker, etc.?
Also have a Section about non-sporting subjects with sub-sections for Bloggers Reminiscenses, Films, Television, Music, Holidays, etc. The range of discussions is endless.
All the above would enable folks to read, respond or ignore, but keep every interests in their respective sections. We already have some of these sections already in existence, so why not use them? As Werdermouth has stated we seem to have reverted to the old Diasboro system which would be a shame, as I think that the present Club system is far better and I would hate to lose it.
Ken, I suspect quite few just don't notice when another thread gets created as they probably refresh the current thread to see the new comments and continue to post on that thread as they used to. I may need to find a way of highlighting active threads from within the thread people are participating.
I've visited many forums where the 'mods' (moderators) are very strict if you go off topic even very slightly and remove your post or direct you to the appropriate thread. I'm certainly not planning to go down that route as I've not got the inclination or time to act as a moderator.
Although if you get into the habit of viewing Diasboro via https://diasboro.club/forum/ page you easily get to see all the active threads that you may miss by refreshing your browser.
Anyway, I'm fairly relaxed about people's browsing habits on Diasboro as the main thing is that people are free to read and post as they wish - as long as they enjoy doing so that's the main point of Diasboro!
@werder
There’s always the “ unread” posts button....
Are you familiar with; Screen Junkies “Honest Trailers”. From amusing,to very funny. Particularly for someone in your line of work.
Werdermouth
Fair enough, as long as you’re happy with the way things are. It wasn’t my intention to make extra work for you, I was just trying to simplify things by making bloggers aware that they can raise new subjects of news as separate entities as happened with the death of Jack Charlton, or the resignation of Anthony Vickers, etc. but obviously everyone else is happy with the way things stand so I have no problem with that. I use other forums on Rugby League and new subjects are frequently appearing and even then some bloggers don’t follow the subject matter, but the moderator doesn’t interfere as long as everyone is respectful of other bloggers opinions which is not always the case, the BBC sports forums being the worst in that regard that I’ve stopped reading them, but certainly not a problem on Diasboro.club I’m happy to say. Anyway this forum is by far the best I’ve come across and the first most of us read, 116 members at the moment is testimony to that.
I find them hit and miss, but when they hit they are very funny. The Wolf of Wall Street is a particular favourite
Ken, I didn't say I was happy but just that I'm quite relaxed about the transition process - you're quite right to point out the virtues of creating new threads when it is obviously a separate subject from that covered in the thread that they are posted in. I just wouldn't want people to avoid posting their thoughts through not being sure where to post them. I deliberately made the 'Speculation on Appointments and Players' a broad topic for the summer - though it appears to have become even broader 😉
Perhaps, I should highlight a few features in case some have missed them...
GHW made the good point about the 'unread posts' link at the top of the 'Forum Home Page' (on the right just left of the 'Recent Threads' title in the right column), which lists all the threads that contain posts an individual hasn't yet read - providing you're logged in of course. Maybe I will add this to the menu to make it more prominent.
In addition, you can also click on the 'Recent Posts' option in the Discussion Forum black menu bar, which will list all the recent threads along with the last 4 comments.
Indeed, if you select the 'Members' option on the same menu bar and then click on the red speech bubble icon for a particular member, it will display all the posts made by that member. The members list is ordered by the number of posts an individual has made - though it's not a competition 🙂 For example, here's the activity list generated if you click on that speech bubble icon for Ken.
So it may just be a matter of everyone exploring the functionality and becoming familiar with the features - which are actually quite useful. I may also have a review of the Discussion Board structure and organisation to see if it can be rationalised and a little simpler.
While I was walking the two terriers in the biblically pouring rain earlier today I started thinking about Mr Warnock's recruitme tactics, well his psychological tactics.
I think he's already got the idea of 'us' against the rest of the football world stoked up and building nicely in the player's minds also I do wonder precisely how many players Boro have followed up on, most of the so called 'news' is no more than pure speculation. On the other hand he also seems to have the younger players busting a gut to get into the first team squad or the cup squad.
A sequence of good results will obviously make Boro more desirable to players who are out of work and the pickings may be easier if Boro really do show some form. The offset there is why would you want them if they weren't keen on Boro in the first place?
Anyway, that's some of the musings of a solitary walker, no searing insights, just thoughts. Not to forget how he and his team have got the Barcode supporters truly wound up. I do like that.
UTB,
John
I was driving a long distance to attend a fair yesterday and lintened to the BBC Radio Tees podcast (via internet and my phone connected to car radio).
Their 'expert summariser' Maddison seemed very, very excited about the Boro performance against Newcastle.
He genuily thinks Assombalonga is by far the best striker in the division and Spence was outstanding.
He thinks we still need some experience and some bodies in for the very hectic season.
All at the studio all agreed that now we are a top ten team, but wirh the possible reinforcements and extra bodies, we might even make it to the play-offs. And there is plenty of time to make signings.
And the academy has many good prospects breaking through. The trust in NW was immence.
Up the Boro!
Got my online pass to watch the Shrewsbury game tomorrow and I am looking forward to it.
Come on BORO.
@jarkko Maddo of course works for the Boro and checks on all local youth teams and is responsible for going to games where Boro players are loaned out.
Maddo has consistently praised the youngsters coming through the ranks and has high hopes for them.

Or Mejias
My first question was if Mejias has lost his nr 1 shirt now?
Or Karank has Karanka scooped again? But Mejias is too young for Brum, me thinks.
Up the Boro!
Ah! The past, how it haunts us and will not let us go. We were a group of people who left our own world and made a new one in a strange place (including building our new town). South bank was settled by the Irish, and anyone who had friends from South bank in the Sixties would have noticed that they had frequent holidays in the Republic, that would be their Grand Parents wishing to see them. It was commented on that a large group of them lived in 'dugout' houses in Port Clarence, and yes, they dug out to the depth of one story and erected a frame over which they hung sacking. This would be in the very early days of the settlement of Middlesborough.
I like NW attitude in regards to transfers:
“People are now starting to realise that players aren’t going to be on the gravy train anymore," he said. "It’s a reality check really.
“I went after a player a few weeks ago and the guy I rang told me he’d go away and speak to the hierarchy then he came back and told me he wanted £1.5 million.
“I said, ‘Well I value him at about £400k me, so good luck to you.’
“This week they’ve come back and said we’ll take £500k now, but I said, ‘It’s too late now I don’t want him.
“I had a striker that I quite liked. This was at the start of the window. I know the agent, he’s a good man and I like him. So I asked him about him.
“This striker wanted £35k a week. I said, ‘that’s beyond us, we can’t afford that.’
“He said, 'he’s a free transfer, there’s no transfer fee, so we will get that'. So I said, ‘well good luck to you’. He came back to me this week and he’s offered him to me for £15k.
To me, that is the right way to do business and not before time.
Come on BORO.
@exmil I think Warnock might be the first manager we’ve had since Mowbray who really understands the Championship and all it’s nuances. A shame that both are/were in charge during challenging times.
