@werdermouth, Thank you there seems to be new plug-ins added two or three times a week, I have started to get a lot of Spam, which is easily deleted but irritating.
have a great weekend between DIY and Word Press!
UTB,
John
I love the site for all the stuff that turns up on it, but at the moment it is a vital part of my life with the team in such sparkling form. Like all fans, when things go so spectacularly right it is bliss to watch them brushing aside Good teams with such abandon. It's even good, when bored, to watch some of our more spectacular displays.
Post from Greg Maloy
Hi Bob. I follow Diasboro and was interested in registering so I can contribute. However when you try to and do this it takes you to a broken link. So if that can be fixed you may get more contributors who can join. Cheers Greg Maloy
OFB
Ive got his details for him to join
Thanks for your support Werder it’s appreciated.
I’m aware of several people who wish to join the blog when it’s available
welcome back hope it’s not in too bad a state !

Not having your superior technical expertise, I am happy to go along with whatever you decide is best for the benefit of all. I do think however if there is cost involved then it should not be only your burden, I am willing to transfer funds to help in this matter and I am sure many (if not all) would be willing to contribute what they can, to continue what we have all enjoyed for free, for the past few years. Finally, can I just say, it is great to hear that you and your family are in good health, even if “the boss’s” list of home improvements is still as long as ever, best wishes and take care UTB.
Come on BORO.
I second to all that. And I am willing to put some money in if needed. I love the blog.
It was nice to hear from you, Werder. Luckily everything ok in Germany.
I just hope to hear something from Redcar Red, too. Up the Boro!
Thanks OFB and yes it will good to have people able to register again - though again don't worry about the running costs as they are around the cost of a pint of beer per week (depending where you live 🙂 ) - it's more about avoiding needing to keep a contract active by needing to ensure payment goes through. As you and Andy know the precious commodity is giving time - money can't buy time so everyone who gives it freely has given something invaluable!
Thanks Jarkko and after over six years running Diasboro I find myself taking the odd break from blogging sometimes as other activities demand my time. Thankfully OFB and Andy have done an excellent job writing articles to keep Diasboro moving forward - though I'm not adverse to writing the odd article now and then if they have time pressures too but still don't know how I managed to write often two hefty ones a week and do graphics and publish other writers articles too. Must have had a twin 😉
would you mind me tweeting about the new format when it’s ready to attract new members ?
I am also a member of a lot of Boro websites and some members would also like to join.
I’m not suggesting a free for all or a dilution of the type of poster that we have but we have skimmed down in numbers ! ( Including my weight!)

Come on BORO.
Glad to see that Werder is still up and running. I’d be happy to chip in as well to help cover any costs.

Ditto everyone. Good to see you again Werder and many many thanks for keeping the GSD (Good Ship Diasboro) afloat. I know you have said it isn't a big expense for you, but equally so, and like others, I would be more than happy to contribute or subscribe.
It is time which is the biggest commodity for many of us and you included: if there is anything I can do to help with any administrative tasks you have running the platform, I'd be more than happy to share that workload with you. Just let me know if there is anything that would be helpful to you.
@werdermouth 's alive you absolute star sir
I more than happy to let the regulars decided on how they could expand the membership and in the theory the new site could be ready within a few days if we decide to go live with it.
I've actually set up the new Wordpress.com Diasboro site with an account using a generic Diasboro name and email so it doesn't have any connection to any of my personal details or email accounts. I'm quite happy to create and provide the actual Diasboro platform and would leave it to the regulars to moderate and manage new membership.
It's quite simple for anyone given 'Author' status to approve new members who comment on their articles and moderate any comments that are posted on their articles. So it doesn't need me to get involved - only on articles that I write as Authors can't manage comments on articles they haven't written.
There is an 'Administrator' status that can be bestowed but that requires those given it to know exactly what they are doing as they can also then make technical changes to the site itself or delete articles and pages. So probably not something to risk at the moment 🙂
Thanks for the comments everyone and the offers of chipping in financially but as I've mentioned the money aspect isn't an issue - finding time obviously is sometimes a problem but I think moving to a Wordpress.com site would spread the load around and remove any urgency to need to address anything that may be pressing - which as luck would have it our internet router died on Saturday evening leaving me unable to do anything this weekend!
@werdermouth It is really nice to hear from you Werder and that all is well with you and the family.
I must admit to having not posted as much as I did, but circumstances (not health) have limited my available time.
However, I still manage to catch the majority of the continuous excellent articles and posts.
As all the other members have said, we are beyond grateful for the work you do keeping the blog alive and kicking.
Whilst a pint may not be overly expensive in real Spain, I would assume one in Germany, will be at least equal to the UK at around £5/6, depending where you buy it.
So given that is circa £300+, I think most of us would be pleased to be able to contribute to the costs and feel better for it.
Great to hear from you Werder and glad you’re well and as busy as ever!
Its great to know that the blog has a future and that there will be a possibility of swelling our numbers in future.
Thanks again for the work you do to keep us going, it’s hugely appreciated by all of us.
It sounds like one or two posters might be happy to chip in with some previews going forward so we can reassess that aspect at the end of season perhaps.
Welcome back Werder. We all missed you.
Sorry my mistake Pedro - I meant to say a pint a month but must have got thirsty while typing 😉 So not anything around the £300 a year unless you'd drink at some of those posh pubs in London with fancy leather sofas...
Thanks Andy and I may be emailing a Wordpres invite for you and OFB to become authors on the new site in the near future - plus anyone else who thinks they may wish to write articles.
@werdermouth - I'm delighted that you and your family are well (even if you might be overworked at present with all these parties and DIY jobs). Like others who have commented already, I am very happy to go along with whatever you suggest is the best way to keep the Blog running somewhere on some site. I get the comment you made about the cost being small but if it had been substantial I would (like others on here) have been happy to help out.
If you are intending to migrate the Blog I suppose you or someone else will have to let us know where to find the new Blog site, and perhaps give an Idiots' Guide as to how to log on/register etc so we can all contribute going forwards. If there was work that would be needed in order to complete the set-up, since we are almost in April now, maybe you could do it after season's end and simply announce nearer the time that you would be "hibernating" the site for a few weeks/a month or so whilst you are working under the bonnet, with a view to re-activating (or whatever) the site on a set date? People would understand.
Sadly my technical knowledge of these things is miniscule. So, from my point of view, you just get on with doing what you think is needed. But (1) it is really good to hear from you again and (2) isn't Boro's transformation under Michael Carrick almost a dream come true?
PS - I renewed my season ticket by phone today to get the Early-Bird Discount which runs until 31st March. The chap at the ticket office did say he had emailed me to confirm but maybe he meant there WOULD BE an email confirmation in due course. I've had no email or text yet. I'm sure the old Visa card will show a payment when I get the next statement (shortly) as the chap clearly had all my details in front of him and could tell me about my Priority Points and knew the cost of the renewal without my having to tell him my age and the amount. So excited about next season, whatever happens in the next few weeks! And about the Blog continuing so, thanks again, Werder!
Just to add to the heartfelt words of thanks and welcome back to Werder for all of he has done in enabling this wonderful blog which means so much to so many of us.
Here’s a typical message I’ve receive today to show that we have a lot of followers who don’t post but “lurk”
A nice message for all
Thanks Dormo and the decision of timing on when to move sites is tricky.
Admittedly, it's a bit tight to do it this week as I'm going away on Friday for a week to visit family on Teesside and will be busy packing etc on Thursday - but at the same time I need to update the hosting software before end of Friday as it will no longer be supported in April.
One of three things can happen when I update this software
1. Everything works fine
2. Diasboro is viewable but some features on the site throw up errors
3. The whole site no longer works
So first today I will try to make an up-to-date local copy of the current Diasboro.club in case I get scenario 3 after updating - plus with a local copy I'll be able to email everyone with the new address to let them know.
So I'll most likely attempt the software update tomorrow morning
Here is a link to the new site below but it's still in development mode with content encrypted but you at least can see it exists 🙂
@original-fat-bob - That was nice to hear from @geoffyarm. We all lose sight of the fact that there must be quite a number of people out there in the big wide world who are aware of and read the contents of Blogs such as ours, without necessarily ever contributing their own posts/replies/comments. I hope as and when things are sorted out, Geoff will feel welcome to set his own thoughts down in the Blog. There are no rules, no obligation for people to post twice a day, once a week or whatever (just a general rule to be respectful of other users and to "play the ball not the man").
@werdermouth - I have just read your post above. Just let us know when the "new" site/link is open for business and I, like others, will then move over or whatever the expression is. Just do what you can, when you can. No point knocking yourself out on this. Now we know you are OK, now that we know what you are hoping to do and that the Blog can continue, I think we can be patient. Better to have a Blog which is working and can continue to work going forward, than chucking the thing together in a rush and then having problems later down the line.
OK, I managed to create a working up-to-date local copy of diasboro.club on my laptop - despite the usual odd quirks that get introduced in these things. But thanks to finding some left-field but effective solutions on a few forums it's a fully working copy that gives me confidence to move onto the next stage of updating the self-hosted software.
So hopefully the site will be still up and running after I've done the update 🤞
btw Noticed after updating the Forum plugin yesterday we're back to 'reacted' with just three names - will sort that out after the update.
So I've updated the version of the software that the site runs on and have solved a couple of issues that arose because of that.
Perhaps the most ironic was after the update I was no longer able to access the Wordpress administration interface (which I use to manage the site) due to a plugin not being compatible with the upgraded software.
The message I could see was as usual a long list of errors but I could see the plugin mentioned appeared to contain the name of my host company who had advised me that if I didn't upgrade they couldn't offer support. So I did an online support chat and sure enough the problem was their plugin which is pre-installed to assist Wordpress beginners. Once they removed it everything was fine again 🙂
However, the upgrade was causing a problem with my custom code to fix the full list of members who had 'liked' a post rather than reacted. A bit of research showed that the later version of software was stricter when encountering undeclared variables. So after a bit of pondering in front my custom code I spotted a typo that had previously been ignored. So that problem all sorted now!
Anyway, as far as I can see Diasboro.club is now upgraded and stable with the Likers once more no longer reactionary. So since I'm off on holiday for week on Friday, I will put a pause on the migration to Wordpress.com until I'm back.
As Dormo wisely mentioned more caution and less haste is usual a better path on such matters (not sure about the chucking together metaphor though 😉) - the urgency was mainly being driven by the need to upgrade before April and having a back-up plan in place should it have failed.
OK, back to posting about the serious matters of Boro!
Thanks for all that effort, effectively at short notice. Typos in the names of variables... I always found the quickest way to find them was to call someone over to see if they could spot what the problem was and then to immediately spot it myself once they started to look!
Hope now for you all to have a safe journey and an enjoyable visit in the "old home". Will you be over long enough (and have the time) to take in the Burnley game ?
Thanks Powmill, though it's sometimes it's hard to spot a typo in code among all the syntax of a multitude of different brackets, commas, semicolons and underscore characters - I'd used 'id' instead of 'userid' in a line so it made sense but had previously just been ignored until the new version of software decided it wasn't having it 🤨
Unfortunately we'll be back for Good Friday so won't get to a game this time - which given my record at the Riverside is probably for the best 😀
@werdermouth. Just wanted to wish you safe travelling.
Enjoy the time with family and sincere thanks for all the work you do behind the scenes to keep this brilliant blog alive and we diehard Boro supporters connected. 😎
@werdermouth - Let me add my comments to the thanks you have been sent by other contributors to this thread, for your hard work sorting things out for us all. Enjoy your trip.
