OFB Sounds like two of us understood what CW was saying about Lumley in his press conference. 😉😎

What’s not to like about Sean Dyche? How the Clarets with a population of 82,000 and the smallest budget in the Premier League are still in the Premier League are all due to Sean Dyche. I’m in a quandary here as I love Everton the first opponents I saw Boro play in 1947, and my good friends from Colne who support Burnley and the birthplace of England’s Jimmy Anderson the top England wicket taker in my favourite sport. I don’t want either Everton or Burnley who are former Division One and FA Cup Winners to be relegated, but it seems inevitable that one or even both might be relegated this season.

So the EG are saying Chris Wilder is favourite to take over at Burnley.

Why would he swap a team going up to the Premiership for one going down to the Championship....

Thanks for the preview OFB. I hope you and and Andy maintain your form and avoid injury/sickness till the end of the season (and longer).

Luton win 1 - 0. That's the result I was not wanting as I thought Luton looked the weakest of the current top 6.

I am surprised that Daniels is in so late and with some must win matches ahead. Also surprised Connolly is in ahead of Balogun. (Is there a must play clause in his contract?)

When it comes to Connelly, there are several facts which need explaining. He was introduced when we were in a very Good place, both with results and upcoming fixtures. He has never shown the least interest in the games he has played in, and he has been the picture of dejection as he wandered about the pitch, that opinion was confirmed by the news from London last week. Stop this nonsense now, he is not our player and we are certainly not signing him.

Team News: Just to recap on Boro's line-up - the return of Jones is a welcome relief, which will allow Tavernier to play in his more effective central role. Perhaps Crooks got the nod over McGree because he's developed an understanding with Jones and they've often linked up well. Don't really understand how Connolly has once again been given a start but at least Watmore begins on the pitch. Hopefully Daniels can have a good game but his distribution and kicking has been pretty average in his previous outings.

@Martin-Bellamy

Would be very surprised if Chris Wilder opts for Burnley as they spend less than Sheff Utd did - maybe if they stayed up and Boro failed to gain promotion but those odds seem pretty short at 3/2 but then again Wayne Rooney is also 3/2 so they both can't get the job so it's probably just the bookies looking for easy money from lazy punters.

Poor first half from two teams looking a little edgy and somewhat out of sorts - Watmore had the only shot on target on the stroke of half-time but no other real chances from either team as Daniels goes in for his cuppa with a pristine yellow kit. Too many misplaced passes with Bola being the prime suspect for missed opportunities - Jones growing into the game but his control has been lacking on a few occasions. One goal could decide this game.

There has been a lack of creativity in our midfield and Crooks is having a limited impact so would look at introducing McGree but not at the expense of moving Tav onto the right side.

Tav and Watmore have been our stand out players closely followed by Jones.

Connolly has been absent again. 😎

Well not a great game but a battling point which still keeps the hope going and helped by both Blackburn and Sheffield losing.

Should have had a penalty first half!

Need to beat Huddersfield on Monday CoB 😎

A game low on quality that probably deserved a nil-nil - no real creativity fro either side and it was there for the taking but both sides below par. The only real plus was that both Blackburn and Sheff Utd lost so a point gained on the pack. A win against Huddersfield is needed but no goals in the last three highlights where Boro's problems lay. As for Crooks picking up a needless late yellow to miss the next three - well poor by the player and poor by the manager as he should have made sense to sub him before that yellow.

So onto Monday but we'll need some shooting boots on the pitch!

Is our new keeper incapable of playing it out from the back or was the long ball upfield a CW tactic? Either way, Connolly never looked like getting hold of the ball.

Jones looked tired today and a bit out of sorts. Surely he hasn’t had Covid.

Onto Monday and I doubt I’ll be able see the game live as we’re off to our Static van in Shropshire. I’m hatching a plan to go early (or later!).

If you were Wilder would you take the Burnley job? He’d have more money to spend, from parachute payments, even if he didn’t keep them up. I suspect he’d be tempted but I hope he stays and realises that our Chairman is more supportive than their’s even with less money.

A classic example of if you don't win then make sure you don't lose. With results elsewhere going our way, that point technically puts the playoffs back in our hands so it goes down as a good point gained.

It was more of an attritional grind than the joyous, free-flowing football from the start of the year but after losing two games in a row without scoring you wouldn't really expect anything else.

Bamba was immense. On that form I rate him more highly than Fry. He may not have many games like that left in his career but we're lucky to have him. Tav also was a human dynamo.

Daniels did everything that was asked of him. Ironically, the work he did was the type of stuff that Lumley is pretty good at. Daniels is clearly not capable of playing the sweeper role or distributing short from the back. I think the defence played a lower block to compensate for that which made it harder to create going forwards. Howson also appeared to be much more defensive-minded than normal.

The Achilles heel of our performances continue to be the strikers. Wilder's deployment of them continues to be baffling. It's easy to pick Connolly as a scapegoat because, frankly, he contributes so little but Sporar and Balogun also contributed nothing in that game. Watmore had some decent runs with the ball but is clearly best as an impact substitute. Given that Daniels was clearly instructed to clear the ball long, it is odd that we went with two midget "gems" than with Coburn who might have been able to contest more effectively.

Jones looked not to be 100% but even at 90% he was a massive improvement on having to stick Tav at RWB. Bola had a shocking first half but improved in the second. Crooks' dip in form continued and he picked up his inevitable 15th yellow. We're going to have to hope McGree is able to recover his lost sharpness in the next 3 games.

On the glass half-empty front, that's 3 games, no wins, no goals. However, we have just played 1st and 2nd. Huddersfield will tell us a lot. Has Wilder turned us into a genuine top 6 side (albeit with flaws) or are we still a mid-table team who had a good spell for a while?

I saw only the first 45 min. A typical goalless draw where we were as good (or bad) as the Cherries. But perhaps a good point gained at the top two team's home.

Have anyone heard if Martin Payero played for the U23 team on Friday? This is especially interesting now that Crooks will start to serve his three match ban.

I hope Payero will finally show his worth for the team. We definately need him on his natural place on the right.

Up the Boro!

@ Deleriad. An excellent summary.

Monday is effectively make or break time, as anything less than three points probably means that we will have too much to do for sixth place, despite a number of results going in our favour today.

If we miss out this season then the big question has to be what is CW going to do about our lack of goals?

Can anyone please explain how we can lose to the league leaders Fulham who then go and lose to Coventry and now Derby; we then lose to Hull and draw with a very average Bournemouth team, it beggars belief.

As regards Daniels, I believe he was playing to orders as far as clearances/goal kicks were concerned and whilst not being overly tested, he acquitted himself well in what he had to do and overall looked more assured than Lumley; when needed he tried to dominate his six yard box and made some good catches/saves.

Sol Bamba was immense as was the rest of the defence for most of the game, in part I believe, because they were more confident with Daniels behind them.

I suspect that Huddersfield will park the bus and look to hit us with dead ball situations and be happy to take a point; we need to find a way to unlock their defence and hopefully McGree has the key, as he will no doubt be the replacement for Crooks who, on recent performances, will not be missed.

Mrs P will be playing golf with the rest of the Society on Monday and without me as I am staying home to watch my beloved team.

My brother has bought a season ticket for next season and will be using his mate’s ticket on Monday so what could go wrong!  CoB 😎

A good point from the team in second place who will go up automatically.

How I wish Bamba was 3/4 years younger and willing to play for us. We need a CB like him next season that’s for sure.

As deleriad and others have said, CW continues to surprise and upset the majority on here with his continuation of playing a poor, poor striker who I am sure will end up playing in the lower leagues. Unless for some inexplicable reason Mr Wilder signs him next season. ☹️ 👎

Crooks has become a liability and his history is now serving to show why he was not playing for one of the better teams before we signed him.

Well it’s now onto Monday with the point today keeping the fans still interested in this season at least.

All in all a satisfactory point in this incredibly crazy league, at least the play offs are now back in our own hands thanks to other teams inability to win.

I was very disappointed with Bournemouth them, and us, looked like a couple of mid table sides and with a 24 goal striker who cost 20 million to be outplayed by a 37 year old must be galling for them.

Thought it took time for Jones to get back into the match and when he did he didn't try to get to the bi line for our two yard tap ins.

Finally well done to the travelling fans they were the only ones singing throughout the match.
