Forest have been playing 4-2-3-1 much of this season so a back four may be the best way to deal with a lone striker.

@ken You mentioned Brian Clough.

Did you see his mate, Lindy Delapenha, play? I have read about him earlier and now there was a story about him in here :

Up the Boro!

Yes I did. In fact I saw him play for Portsmouth against Boro and with Boro 1-3 down with 20 minutes remaining I remember hoping that Boro would score 2 goals to force a draw, but instead Pompey scored 2 further goals and Boro lost 1-5. I was only 11 years old at the time and Pompey went on to win successive First Division Championships that season.

A promising first half spoilt for me by an appalling miss by BA when gifted a back pass and then misses a 1:1 with the keeper who made a block and MT following up misses an open goal with his left foot! 😎

I'd agree with that and Boro have looked comfortable and have restricted Forest to just one shot off target. Boro have had three decent chances to score but don't seem to have their shooting boots on - well at least not on the correct feet. Neil Warnock made in my view a very good substitution in taking off Morsy, who was on a yellow and looking like he was going to get a second - plus he's made a number of wayward passes. It's a game that is there to be won but will Boro find a way?

@werdermouth.  Just watched the replay of the misses and they are even worse second time around.  BA was so nonchalant or lacking in conviction and MT should hang his head in shame.  I think one goal will decide it and on what has occurred so far I don't see it being us! 😎

@jarkko I remember seeing him play, I must have been about ten years old. A great 'Hicktonesque' penalty taker and I seem to remember him pulling out a corner flag and chasing the referee, there's also the legendary net bursting penalty too. Ray Bilcliff, Rolando Ugolini in goal and Brian Phillips were in the same team think but Ken will have all that info, it's a few years ago now! He was pretty quick on the wing too. Aster with the foghorn voice was also in the North stand too. Characters on and off the pitch.

Stay safe,

UTB,

John

Gettin! Wasn’t expecting the win but it was deserved and delighted to be proved wrong.

8 unbeaten and up to 5th. Remarkable and what a fantastic job Warnock and his coaches are doing.

Marvin Johnson bags the winner in the 81st minute (from a cross by George Saville)!  😀  AV's dubbed him "NeyMarv"!  😊

Wow, this team is beginning to look the real deal another solid controlled performance that eventually found a way to score and then stood firm against a late Forest surge. In fact Boro even began to play some decent interchanging football in the second half down the flanks and finally got their rewards. also credit to Warnock for making three good substitutions all at the right time. Johnson took his goal well from a great Saville cross to edge the game. some good performances and good to see Nathan Wood  perform well - plus Coulson and Spence grew into the game too. Tav looked good in midfield but once again Howson read the game well and midfield and looked to drive the team forward to probably edge MOM. Well done Boro and now up to 5th!

Bloody marvelous. That second half performance was the best that I've seen them play for a long time. Bola and Coulson were excellent as were Dijksteel and Spence with Tavernier seeming to turn up everywhere. Howson was fantastic breaking up so many Forest attacks and behind him the back three were really strong with Wood having a wonderful first league game. What a prospect. Saville had another tremendous game and he seems to have a great understanding with the other midfield players. I'll be interested to hear the details behind the Morsy/Spence shift but it turned out brilliantly. Bettinelli did all that one could ask of him. Only disappointment was Britt who seemed a bit out of sorts.

I'm sure that, like me, most of you are pinching yourselves as we seem to get better and better. NW is a bloody genius.

@ken

i saw him play too when I was quite young.  My recollection is that physically he was quite chunky but he was quick with a ferocious shot.  Whenever he got the ball near the other side’s penalty area the was a ripple of expectation in the crowd that he might get a shot away. Great player.

We are playing well but lack a cutting edge, I think that we were  doing well to stay in the game and made a couple of serious chances before we scored. I think that our manager has passed on his knowledge of how to close out a tight game because the players were not panicking as they threw the kitchen sink at us.us fans of course were wetting ourselves.

Great stuff! MOM, all eleven players. Most pleasing is we are no longer last seasons soft touches. First to the loose ball, strong in the tackle, completely out muscled the opposition and had the Forest players on the back foot all match.

Winning mentality throughout the team and fantastic work ethic.

Couldn’t have put it better. It’s clear that the players have total confidence in NW and have fully bought into his ethos and vision for the club.  Could be an interesting season, just a pity that the fans are not allowed in the stadium to see it.

A deserved win and three points.  Howson was MoTM and deserves to be captain but it was a battling performance all round, particularly in the second half.  Wood was outstanding for an 18 year old and I think Grant Hall is going to have a job on his hands getting back into the side given the performances of the defence during his absence.

So far we have matched if not bettered most of the teams we have played and if we could just show a bit more composure and skill in and around the box we would be top two contenders.

We must enjoy it whilst we can as I am sure that suspensions and injuries will impact sooner or later.  Well done again to all. CoB.  😎

Excellent result. Just shows what a good manager can do - gets players to improve and the combined efforts of the team exceed the total of the individual parts.  The players are certainly playing for the manager and the team.

Has anyone seen the photo of NM embracing Bola at the end of the game ?
Just look at Bola’s  expression which seems to be showing the ultimate respect for NW  and a sense of satisfaction and pleasure on being congratulated on his performance. That’s the sign of a  good man manager.

Also good result for my friends who are Huddersfield supporters.
