Hull currently 1-3 down at home to Bristol City after scoring first. That would be a great result for the Boro.

Good results with Coventry drawing at home 0-0 against Oxford who played the last 15 minutes with 10 men - and Hull losing at home 2-3 to out-of-form Bristol City - a win on Monday could be pivotal!

and after next weekend they will have two in hand as they are playing in the FA Cup next Friday night away at Wrexham and we play on the Monday. They make that game up against Hull on the Tuesday after we play at Birmingham.

So long as the Boro does the job we all hope for on Monday evening, it doesn't matter what other clubs do.  It is in Boro's hands at the moment. Other clubs have to catch us.  It feels good!

Unfortunately we won't be playing in Red and will have to play in the green and white Masham kit that was last worn in our 4-1 away win at Hull.

Somehow managed to catch up with the forum despite not entirely knowing what day and time games are being played and it gets more confusing tomorrow when we move onto Sydney.

Thanks FD for the intro which was most enjoyable- been to Bramall Lane a couple of times for football and  even more times for corporate events when Sheffield was my patch for work! Not old enough to remember it as a cricket ground though.

IIRC it was at Bramall Lane when the Yorkshire team once beat Australia when Yorkshire had a strong team with many test players.

Back to football matters and the results yesterday (or is that today for me? - no idea?) went our way for a change.  A win  tomorrow will see us go top which is pretty damn good although it won’t be an easy game and I have a few memories of the Blades getting the better of us (was a game televised on terrestrial TV a while back or am I imagining that?)

A repeat of our home game will do nicely and maybe the kit will see a TV win - and I will be able to claim bragging rights over my niece who is a SUFC supporter!

Heres hoping that Boro will be sharp enough to blunt the blades and steal the top spot.

Always better to have the points than relying on winning games in hand. Talking of hands, the future’s in ours now.

I think that this might be the toughest of our next three away games. We have a pretty decent record when we play away under lights in the League. No loses this season , and only one last season, and two the season before. Unfortunately, that defeat last season was on the 12th of February at, you've guessed it, Bramall Lane. Hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice. I will take a draw now.

Since November, Sheffield United have won nine of their last 15 Championship fixtures, a return more in keeping with promotion contenders than mid-table dwellers. That said, vulnerabilities remain. Defensive fragility continues to undermine their progress, with 43 goals conceded placing them among the division’s most porous sides.

Since the appointment of Kim Hellberg, Boro have found clarity and direction, with nine wins from his first 14 Championship matches reflecting a swift and effective transition.

So it will be a tough match. But we should be able to nick a draw or even a win tonight.

Up the Boro!

IT WAS on the Saturday night after the win over Preston that Kim Hellberg took the opportunity to switch off for a couple of hours and headed down to Yarm.

If Middlesbrough's head coach was hoping for a quiet, relaxing drink he'll have soon discovered that wasn't likely.
When one besotted fan spotted Boro's head coach, he stuck a kiss on the cheek of the Swede while posing for a picture and told him when he becomes a father in the future "he's going to call his first child Kim Hellberg".

Safe to say Boro's boss has been quite the hit with supporters.
Understandably so. Not only have Boro picked up 28 points from a possible 39 since the head coach's appointment, the football has been a joy to watch. Promotion hope has turned to belief on Teesside in recent weeks. Sheffield United tonight is a big game and a big test. Boro can go top.
It was Newcastle on Thursday night for Hellberg, a night at the Premier League darts alongside club staff and assistant head coach Adi Viveash. Watching the likes of Luke Littler and Gian van Veen in the flesh might tempt Hellberg into trying to take on Boro's players on the board that's up in the first team dressing room at Rockliffe. Matt Targett is said to be the best player.
Last Sunday was pretty special for Hellberg. Not only did Boro's head coach turn 38, which came the day after a fifth successive Championship win, but he got to celebrate with his full family after wife Christina, three-year-old son Harry and three-month old baby daughter had moved to the UK a few days earlier.
"My son has started nursery," said proud Hellberg.
"He has to wear his uniform but maybe he can put his Boro shirt on underneath!
"We're working on the English and the Middlesbrough accent. It will be good to see him picking that one up.
"It's actually unbelievable to have them here. They were at the Norwich game last week. They give me the energy to do everything I can to make Middlesbrough as successful as possible. They mean the world to me."

Hellberg talked openly about how hard it was to leave his young family in Sweden when he first joined Boro. His young son visited at the start of January and Hellberg had Harry's favourite toy car in his pocket for the game against Southampton. Boro won 4-0 and have won four more games on the bounce since.
"The last few weeks after he'd visited and then went back to Sweden was very tough," said Hellberg last week.
"He had the feeling of being here, so that was very tough for the family. He's been wanting to come here, so he's so happy now.
"And then of course it means changes for him with the language and things like that, but he's a fighter and a very clever boy. It's brilliant to have him here."
It was the day after a game and the day before the transfer deadline but Hellberg tried his best to switch off on his birthday. Harry kept him busy playing with his cars.
"I tried to just put the phone away and just spent time with my family, travelling around a little bit, eating together, playing with the cars and all those things," said Boro's boss.
"I'm lying a bit...my phone was not off, it was just on silent. But don't tell my wife!"
His family have very quickly been made to feel welcome on Teesside.
"They've been very well supported by a lot of people," he said.
"It's been a very good welcome for them too and people trying to make it as easy as possible with the move and everything. There's a lot of people here again doing a lot of things for my family to make it easier, trying to help.
"Supporters have been writing to her [Christina] on Instagram and there's a lot of happiness from everyone, a lot of support from all the people and I'm very thankful for that."
The trip to Yarm was a rare trip out for Hellberg, for almost all of his time since arriving at the club has been spent at Rockliffe, Boro's training base.
"Everyone has been nice to me - even when we weren't scoring," laughs Boro's boss.
"Now the family is here, we will try to go around a bit and visit, but it's busy with work. It's more that the family gives you comfort when you come home.
"It's still like I work every day and I'm here all the time, but we're trying to fit in stuff and trying to move around and do things."
Hellberg had long dreamt of managing in England before getting his Boro opportunity. He backed his talent but could he ever have seriously envisaged making such a dream start to life at the Riverside?
"I'm not sure I can answer on that one," he said.
"I'm very proud of the work everyone has done. I'm very proud of the assistant coaches that help me so much. They've been absolutely brilliant.
"I'm a little bit surprised how quickly we turned from the style of play - without saying right or wrong, just a little bit surprised how quickly we've changed a lot of things.
"We can back up with statistics that show we've taken big steps in the way towards how I want to play. I think that did go quicker than I thought.
"Of course picking up nine wins in thirteen games in the Championship is actually unbelievable.
"I'm thankful. I'm thankful to the players, to everyone around the club that support me, thankful to the assistant coaches for how they worked endless days to try to help me get the way I want the players to play.
"It's been an unbelievable two months. Two months, is that right? It's feels like almost one year and I'm just thankful for it and it gives me energy again to keep just trying to do everything to improve."
He continued: "I'm a coach that started from the lowest tier in Sweden. I have no playing background. For me, I always have believed in myself, but I've also had doubt a lot of times.
"I've been coaching for fifteen years, I think that beats most of the coaches in terms of time when they have coached in senior football of course.
"I'm coming from Sweden, I started in a low division so I have to take a very, very long route to get here.
"To give an honest answer, from the beginning maybe I hoped I could get here but maybe didn't think it because there aren't many Swedish coaches without any background of playing.
"I've had to take the long route but I'm happy I did. I was 22 years old when I put my boots on the shelf and started coaching. I think that was a very good decision."
The Boro fans would agree.

@malcolm - Thanks for this and similar pieces you've posted before.  Your cut+paste bits mean that I can avoid having to open the original articles (which ususally means that I give the articles a miss).

I will probably start to feel nervous in a few hours. At present I merely feel "hopeful".

Who’s feeling nerves setting in? Having said that, I’m quietly confident about tonight - 1-2 win is my forecast.

Boro injury news

Chance that we see Joe Wildsmith make the bench for the first time this evening, but that's expected to be the only change to the squad for Boro.

Kim Hellberg said on Thursday that he wasn't expecting to have any players back for this one - with the game coming too soon for Leo Castledine.

A couple of interesting selection calls to make, though. Will Dael Fry, Jeremy Sarmiento or David Strelec come into the starting XI? They feel like the ones, if any, that Hellberg could bring in.

Also from CJ:

Why tonight's game kicks off at 8:01 pm

You may have noticed the unusual kick-off time tonight.  The reason for that is actually to spread a really important message. The slightly delayed kick-off time is to spread awareness of the Every Minute Matters campaign.  In support of the campaign, every EFL game was delayed by one minute over the weekend, with Boro’s trip to Sheffield United no different.

To mark Heart Month, it forms part of the 'Every Minute Matters' campaign from Sky Bet and The British Heart Foundation, with support from the EFL.  The campaign set out to engage 270,000 people to start learning CPR using the BHF’s free RevivR tool by May 2025. The current total sits at over 450,000, and this February, the Every Minute Matters campaign is aiming to hit the incredible milestone of 500,000.

Worth flagging up, I think.

I guess The Gazette didn't get the memo on what kit Boro were playing in tonight 😉

I thought Hellberg might have been tempted to go for a back three tonight but looks like he's going to start on the front foot and attack Sheff Utd - probably our most expensive bench for a while too...

@forever-dormo If you ran to there, you might get thirsty. Remember you must have a few beers for the win and still be able to walk home. Up the Boro!
