Totally agree Martin, people suggesting that Edwards should shut down the rumours and come out and say he is fully committed to his job here and doesn't want the Wolves job is like asking Gibson to come out with a statement committing that he will never sack Edwards whilst he is under contract.I can understand Edwards’ interest in a club near to where he lives but if he is approached and if he did move then he would plummet in my opinion of him.
A person with principles whilst fancying the job would say to himself Boro have given me the opportunity of a job when I was unemployed, I’ve only been here ‘ 2 minutes’ and so I’d be letting them down. Some will say this is an old fashioned view but it is one I would take.
It seems to me that this country would be far better if people in positions of authority kept to their principles and did what they instinctively know to be right.Hopefully this is all hypothetical and Edwards will continue as Boro manager and bring glory to the club.
philip of Huddersfield
👍🤔
The trouble is, loyalty is a two way street. All managers (and politicians) know that their jobs will ultimately end in failure - no matter how good they’ve been in the role, as soon as results start to go against them, they’ll be sacked.
Personally, I’d be disappointed to see RE leave to go to Wolves but I wouldn’t blame him for taking the opportunity if offered. He’d earn more, be operating in a higher division (albeit maybe temporarily) and be nearer his family. Reading social media (often a mistake) might make him conclude that his honeymoon period with Boro’s fans is over and it’s an opportunity not to be missed.
Just an after-thought from the Leicester match.
As Alfie Jones was red-carded on the 90th minute, we played the rest of the match with only one central defender, right. So how on earth Luke Ayling was in the six-yard box on the 90+6 minute to head the ball to the net?
But I was happy he was. We played with ten men, no centre back and he was there as our top striker scoring. Magnificent. Up the Boro!
@jarkko Desperate times, call for desperate measures.
And to think that last year we all thought Ayling was ailing!
@clive-hurren One could argue, our most consistent player to date. And that was a top strikers header.
Another debate and another sackful of thought provoking posts from too many to name.
Just to comment: Principles disappeared many years ago.
If Wolves do have Edwards in their sights, and there are not even many unemployed ex Head Coaches around who would probably want the job, are there?
Erik ten Hag, Postecoglou, Rogers, Carrick possibly.
Then who would we be looking at?
As for waiting for it all to click and those fine margins, I am still far from convinced as to the capabilities of some of our recent attacking players.
Too soon to start contemplating a successor to Edwards and according to the Northern Echo, Wolves are now unlikely to appoint a manager before the international break - which they say will mean Edwards having to deal with more questions on the matter in Friday's pre-match press conference.
This could get quite embarrassing if Edwards fails to categorically rule out the Wolves job and continues to deflect and sidestep the issue - I'm sure we'll hear lots of "I'm completely focused on the Birmingham game and it's not something I'm thinking about" as in reality he would probably take the job if offered - as if he didn't want the job it's very easy to just say so but I'm sure those in charge at Wolves will hear that he hasn't said he won't.
He was playing through the pain barrier last season as we did not had enough fit defenders. Afterwards, it was easy to see, but we were not told the truth while the season was on. A great player, Bill is. Up the Boro! And to think that last year we all thought Ayling was ailing!
@jarkko Exactly, and why were we not told. We continually did not receive any updates on player injuries.
OK, you may not want the opposition to know all, however, at some point the truth about Ayling and his underperforming should have been spelt out by Carrick. But then, he never said much did he.

As Craig Bellamy, the Wales manager, did so adroitly when questioned about his availability for the managerial vacancy created by Brendan Rodgers' recent departure from Celtic... 😉
