@lenmasterman, sorry to hear of your hospitalisation, wishing you a speedy recovery and to be able to return home soon.
As for the Coburn discussion, I think we have got a good deal with the move, I for one would have been disappointed if Boro signed a striker who produced a goal in every 4/5 games and had an injury record as JC, especially for in excess of £5m. Was RE involved in the decision 🤔, yes he was only announced on 24 June but most of us know that he was the choice as soon as MC was sacked (maybe even before). Whilst waiting “in the wings” do we not think he has studied every Boro player (it is reported that in the interviews, he showed he had an extensive knowledge of all Boro players) therefore could have decided that Josh wasn’t a player that would suit his needs. In my opinion Josh, at best, is an average championship player and we are looking for better.
Come on BORO.
@martin-bellamy You might be right there, Martin.
However, if we'd signed him from another club, you'd expect to him to have had regular chances to play (otherwise why sign him?). He hasn't really had much opportunity.
On a brighter note, I had a telephone consultation with the respiratory consultant earlier this week to discuss my last CT scan in April, apparently it showed nothing untoward and I am now declared cancer free. I will have a CT scan every year and an Ex Ray every 6 months in between for the next 5 years. It seems the removal of my left lung has done the trick, along with the chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Come on BORO.
Great news Exmil, I know what a relief that is to get that news and that is even more so with lung cancer!
@exmil Best news of the summer.
... Despite all the rumours, Ruud van Nistelrooy is still in charge after his dismal record of only winning 2 of his 17 games in charge - hard to be convinced he'll still be there come the second weekend of August!..
Well how's that for a little prescience, never mind in a couple of months Werder, it only took a couple of days for the hex you spun to take effect !!
I'm inclined to agree with you Exmil. Also, JC has had the chance to impress while away on loans, but in both cases his goals to appearances ratio might be described as average. So this is possibly a really good move for all parties.@lenmasterman, sorry to hear of your hospitalisation, wishing you a speedy recovery and to be able to return home soon.

I think we are going to have to be patient and wait until the transfer window is closed and we have the first dozen games of the season completed (both for Millwall and for Boro) before we can have an idea if this was, in the end, a good move.
I am still sorry to see him go as I was also looking forward to seeing how he might have prospered (or not) under a different coach with us.
@exmil Great news. So happy for you and all the Exmil family. Well done!
Boro signed Tommy Conway, who is same age as Josh, for £7.5m - his record at Bristol City was 25 goals in 92 appearances.
Josh Coburn's record at Boro plus on loan at Bristol Rovers and Millwall is 25 goals in 91 appearances
Maybe Millwall are getting a bargain...
Well I said in my opener that I’d be surprised if Ruud van Nistelrooy was still in charge of Leicester for the start of the season - he’s not after the announcement of a parting by mutual consent…
Exmil, Great news I'm absolutely delighted for you. I too saw the consultant on Monday and he declared himself very pleased with my progress and I have to see him again at the end of September where, if progress is maintained, he is going to move me out to six monthly consultations instead of three monthly.
I'm not counting my chickens yet but quietly optimistic, just need Boro to sort themselves out now!
Stay well and look after yourself.
All the best,
UTB,
John
@exmil. Brilliant news. So pleased for you and no doubt a big relief for you and your family. 😎
@john-richardson. That is also good to hear that you are making positive progress. Always encouraging when hospital visits are on the downward trend. Keep well. 😎
I refer the honourable gentleman to my post above at 2:19 pm, lauding your uncanny ability to bend the future to your thoughts 😉Well I said in my opener that I’d be surprised if Ruud van Nistelrooy was still in charge of Leicester for the start of the season - he’s not after the announcement of a parting by mutual consent…
😂 sorry I missed that post - yes thanks and I didn’t know the Leicester City owners were Diasboro readers 😏
@werdermouth re the comparison of Coburn's to Conway's goals to appearances ratios, for me the jury is still out on whether Conway was a good purchase or not. He has impressed me in flashes, but not at all consistently. It will be really interesting to see if the new coaching team can get more out of him, not necessarily just in goals scored, but in overall game impact.

🤣
Exmil / John Richardson
Grear news for you both. Fingers crossed for a solid recovery for you both.
Many thanks for all of your kind thoughts and best wishes. They have really meant a lot to me and have given me extra motivation after a difficult period.
Great news for both exmil and John. Congratulations and best wishes to you both
I feel a bit sorry for Coburn and thought the new coach could be a new start for him at Boro especially as he has been putting a lot into pre season training before the official start of pre season training.
He can only improve and would have been a plan B for Conway who does a lot of chasing about, scores a few goals but wins virtually nothing in the air and can’t hold up the ball. Coburn is very different in being able to win balls in the air and can hold up the ball. I remember Neil Waldock saying during his time that he was the cleanest striker of the ball at Boro.
I will only say it’s a decent move for Boro when they sign a better forward at a not too dissimilar price.
Meanwhile I feel Coburn thought he wasn’t wanted at Boro and so welcomed the move back to Millwall where he has quickly made a name for himself. I hope he does well and will hold my breath when Millwall play Boro.
i hope in the not too distant future Boro prove to be as quick in getting new players as they have been in getting rid of Coburn .
Philip of Huddersfield 👎🤔☹️
Fingers crossed for September John 🤞
Spot the typo from this Gazette article 😏
Sykes has joined National League North side South Shields, while Stott will continue his footballing journey north of the border at Scottish League One side Queen of the South. The pair will not both be hoping to take the next step in their careers and earn regular senior football.
I don’t think that because Conway’s stats are no better than Coburn’s it would be a reason to keep JC. It almost makes it more important to let him go and replace him with an upgrade. Whether that happens or not is anyone’s guess.
Hearing of members’ health issues on here always reminds me to try and live for today (something I’m spectacularly bad at) - best wishes to anyone suffering at the moment; may you all soon be back to good health. You’re all integral to the success of this Forum and give us much to be grateful for, with your contributions
I would be amazed if Boro are not planning a Latte Lath replacement as yes Conway is not a centre-forward and rarely gets in the box and prefers to run the channels
@werdermouth Spotted that and just put it down to routine sloppy journalism. Quality control?
UTB,
John
I bet it started out as 'not only' with a 'but' instead of an 'and' - made me laugh though 🙂
