@werdermouthSeems a bit of a left-field choice to me and again somebody with no English management experience or knowledge of the Championship would be a risk to hit the ground running during mid season.”

In principle, I’d agree, but if English management experience and knowledge of the Championship is a must-have, we’re fishing in quite a small pool, particularly if SG maintains his record of only appointing out of work managers.

not only a small pool but a not so great small pool.

Like everyone else this is something regarding jobs available,  it's  never been seen that I can remember.

On Boro, well who knows, I posted a little while back how I was very impressed with an interview George Boetang did recently, he came across very intelligent and insightful on his  philosophy regarding the game,

The talk is Gerrard and Holland , I don't know , doesn't Holland have a reputation of falling out with players, however Southgate rates him, and I'm sure Gibson will sound him out about him, Southgate I don't believe is in the frame.

I'm surprised the likes of John Terry is not mentioned, been around some big names, and would have contacts, l can't see Gibson poaching in this country but I wouldn't be surprised if a foreign coach came in.

Edwards now confirmed as the new Wolves manager:

while a Boro statement confirms that Adi Viveash will continue to take charge of the first team while the club searches for a new manager.

Article now extensively updated to include discussion of RE's chances of turning things round & potential transfer targets, including HH!

P.S.  The link I posted earlier is unlikely to have worked because of an aberrant comma (now removed)!  Sorry!

@stircrazy I think if HH was to follow RE to Wolves, SG’s head might explode!

So would mine! He’s going to leave at some point, unless we go up. Wherever it is to, I would say anybody but Wolves!

@original-fat-bob this is brilliant and should have been an addendum to the official release around Edwards' departure.

Edwards statement

Edwards: Leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves toughest decision of my career

Rob Edwards has posted on Instagram after being named as Wolves head coach.

Edwards has revealed he wouldn't have considered leaving Middlesbrough for any other club than Wolves, saying the decision to leave Middlesbrough and join Wolves was "one of the toughest decisions" of his career.

He said: "This has been one of the toughest decisions of my career," Edwards said in a statement. "In truth, I wouldn't have considered leaving Middlesbrough for any other club.

"Wolves is a special club for me. It's where I grew as both a player and a coach, it's still where my family calls home. It has always been my dream to come back and these opportunities do not come around too often."

"Middlesbrough is an incredible club with a fantastic owner, staff and passionate supporters. I want to thank everyone at the club for the opportunity to lead this squad, it is a great group of players that I genuinely hope and believe will deliver success this season.

"I could not be prouder of the environment we built together and how it all gelled together so quickly – the players, the staff, and the fans, who drive it all.

"I sincerely wish everyone at Middlesbrough all the very best for the rest of the season and beyond."

@jarkko - The Northern Echo could at least give this Blog a shout-out!

"And for Boro fans all over the world, if you want to read the comments/suggestions/memories of other Boro fans, if you like to comment on games played and games to come, you could do worse than to go onto the Diasboro site.  Motto - "play the ball not the man".  Views temperately and respectfully expressed and sometimes with humour. Give it a go..."

Michael Carrick could make a shock Middlesbrough return after ending his time at the club on good terms with chairman Steve Gibson.

That's the view of Carrick's friend Don Hutchison, who believes the former Boroboss would be open to an incredible comeback. Boro are conducting a thorough search for their next manager.

what do,you think of that Diasborians ?

would you have him back ??

@original-fat-bob strange one for me this as i really liked Carrick and felt his hands got tied somewhat, however, he was pretty dour and that showed itself even more when Edwards arrived and got the fans on his side.

I suspect Carrick would be a better head coach with Viveash at his side.

I think in preference to most names mentioned so far, yes. With AV alongside him, rather than JW, and with this year's squad, plus a promise of enhanced striking capability in January I think he could do well this season.

Elsewhere, there was heartbreak for Adilson Malanda and Charlotte, though, as their 3-1 defeat to New York City saw them knocked out of the play-offs. The defender is due to link up with Boro in January.

So he could have a proper holiday next, collect his belongings and later head to Teesside to join Boro.

Malanda (born 29 October 2001) is a French professional footballer who plays as centre-back for Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC, on loan from EFL Championship club Middlesbrough.

Malanda made his professional debut with Nîmes. On 4 August 2022, Malanda signed with Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC.

On 20 August 2025, Malanda signed for EFL Championship club Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee and was loaned back to Charlotte until the end of the MLS season.

Born in France, Malanda is of Congolese descent. His place of birth is Rouen, France. He is an inch taller than me at 1.94 m (6 ft 4 in), perfect for a defender.

The above is mainly from Wikipedia.

Welcome to Boro, Adilson. Up the Boro!

@k-p-in-spain Maybe Edwards should have waited until next summer to join his favourite club, Wolves?

The possible another manager at Wolves ŵould have got sacked by next summer very, very propably as the relagation looms large at Wolverhampon still.

Anyway, I am looking forward to who will be OUR new head coach, though. Up the Boro!

@original-fat-bob

I did post recently that Michael Carrick with Adi Viveash is possible one of the best available options at the moment - but thought he'd left under a cloud given the brief club statement - though if he's still on good terms with Gibson then it's a possibility.

This is a Boro side now looking solid but lacking a cutting edge and that side of matters was Carrick's strength - maybe having an experienced campaigner like Adi alongside him is what he was lacking. I would certainly be fine with that appointment and he wouldn't need much time to be up and running - he certainly gets the best out of attacking players and we've got 4 or 5 who definitely need someone who can do that!

@werdermouth.  Sorry I have to disagree with you and others who have said Carrick’s strength was the attacking part of his management; it may have been in the first season but gradually faded over time.

I accept that he was not helped by the loss of key players and once we lost the PL loanees from season one and with Ben Doak’s injury/LL’s departure last season, we became very predictable, struggled to score and were weak defensively.

He failed in my view to get the best out of Silvera, Whittingham and Burgzorg and was lacking in tactical nous.

If MC was seen as part of the problem following the root and branch review at the end of last season, then you have to ask what has changed about him since.

After the unsavoury events created by RE and the coming together of the club and supporters last Saturday it is now time to move forward as one; re-appointing MC is likely to be as divisive as appointing Gary O’Neil.

That being said, I am not enthused by the names being suggested, Mark Robins apart, but his appointment is unlikely given he is already in a job; I don’t envy SG and am sorry he has been placed in this position by RE. 😎
