This could be interesting. I haven't seen it being touted before.

@peter-surtees We do not want to put any pressure on the player, do we. Germany's Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid) will remember this goal for ever. Superb.

@martin-bellamy   I was listening to Neil Warnock this morning talking about DJed Spence, when he was at MFC and he let him go on loan. Listening, I think Mr Warnock, thinks he did him a big favour, and he is probably correct.

Talking transfer fees and spending, there was a good article in the Mail on Line a couple of days ago by Oliver Holt.
In essence it said that the “big clubs” (that is in turnover)  have now got PSR sussed and are circumventing it, with aplomb.

Chelsea are the current masters, since the take over by the Clearwater Group. The buying of multiple cheap players (for them anyway) on long contracts, selling the majority of them at a big percentage profits producing reinvestment cash.

Then they dream up another cash bonanza, by pushing through PSR and selling their Ladies Team to themselves for around 190 million was it? Joined by others since.

Obviously the EPL had not thought of that one.

So the reality is that the big clubs, American or State Owned, with the business acumen, can really just do what they want.

There are always exceptions of course. Poor old Newcastle, because they do not commercially produce income anywhere near the big six, struggle to compete on (monetary) equal terms, even with a great Coach in Eddie Howe.

I remember the Forest owner recently stating that he could fill the pitch and the corridors of the City ground with wheelbarrows of cash but he can't spend it.

And in there is the crux of the issue in competition with the big clubs commercial pulling power, and let's be honest, Newcastle are a big club.

It makes me laugh when posters on other sites are screaming for Gibson to go and bring in new investment and calling for Saudi investment, what is the thought process, market the Boro investment world wide and have youngsters across Riyadh all wearing the Boro colours, not going to happen.

Also, the German team World Cup Qualifier included Nick Woltemade, who was transferred from VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle United in a club-record deal worth up to £69 million . The 23-year-old forward signed a six-year contract.

For Strelec Boro have paid an initial fee of £6.5m, with a further £2m in potential add-ons. So Newcastle paid 10 times more for their new striker than Boro for their 24 year old striker.

Well done to our requitment. Up the Boro!

Ref to Scotland manger Steve Clarke, who said Tommy Conway wasn't picked because Lyndon Dykes has more experience. Well he missed a sitter in Friday's match. I doubt if Clarke has been to the Riverside to watch him. I'll have a word!!!

My thinking on the Hackney for Scotland thing, was if picked, it would create I bigger profile, allow him to show is abilities on the International stage, and give him a better chance of a bigger move.

I'm not saying I want him to move, but if it's inevitable, then I'm sure a bigger fee to Boro

Where is everybody?

We are top of the league and have just signed a marque player in Strelec. Our first since Tuncay. Or have you seen a goal scored like Strelec scored versus Germany since Juninho?

So many things to look forward to on Satuday. Let's enjoy the ride.

Naturally I understand that @werder might be shocked about the Slovakia vs. Germany result. In Germany they have never experienced an away defeat in the World Cup qualifiers before.

Up the Boro!

@jarkko I guess we're all enjoying the break and lapping up the new hype.

That's a very good point about a marquee player and yes, Tuncay was probably the last. We've had more expensive players since obviously but I hadn't thought of Strelec in the marquee league until your prompt.

The goal, and assist, against Germany however were first class however and I have re-positioned myself accordingly. He could be an outstanding signing and we've probably made money on him already.

Promotion, not pounds, is the aim though and RE is already up against a different task to his first four games in that not only is there an expectation of sorts now, but he has to dilute a lot of good players into 11 starting slots only while keeping everyone happy.

He does look like he's up to it though.

@jarkko I guess after all the early transfer window doom and gloom, the pre-season jitters and knee jerks and now the early table looking upside down ( some may say ), topped off with an incredible end to the window we are all catching our breath a little.

Build up starts again tomorrow, off to Preston we go to make it five on the bounce.

UTB.

I hope to get the Preston starter up tomorrow - just waiting on Dave’s final words and we’ll be good to go.

David Strelec did not score in the following World Cup qualifier at Luxemburg on Sunday.  He was substituted on 66th minute, when the score was still 0-0.  Slovakia was able to get the winner on the 90th minute and won by 1-0.

So no wonder goal this time. Hopefully at Preston on Saturday.  Up the Boro!

@jarkko - I am in a farmer's field in Cropton, North Yorkshire, literally behind the New Inn (which brews its own beers - the Great North Yorkshire Brewery).  The sun is up and shining.  It was supposed to do the same yesterday but, after a couple of early.hours, cloud set in and no view could be had  later of the Lunar Eclipse at.sunset yesterday.

Back home later today after a long weekend.  There are benefits to these international breaks quite apart from Wales beating mighty Kazakhstan away (and, yes, Kazakhstan and its clubs play in European competitions and European World Cup qualifiers despite having a border with China!).

I hope everyone is enjoying their break from club football and will be waiting, with bated breath, for the resumption.

On which, I see there are several views on the transfer window and I guess that fans of about 15 different Championship clubs think THEIR club did the best deals. I saw one YouTube video reviewing the transfers which suggested Portsmouth had done the best but that Boro had an "honourable mention" which I guess means he thought Boro had the silver medal position. If so, that is a magnificent improvement on last January's effort.

Onwards and Upwards!

@jarkko Hi, I am posting from Bulgaria, enjoying my first holiday in two years, it’s 27/28 degrees every day, the hotel is brilliant, food very good and enjoying different alcohol drinks every night but I will be back and fit on the morning of Friday 19th, just so happens that I will not have missed an home game in the two weeks, funny how it all works out 😂😂😂.

Come on BORO.

Just catching up whilst 4 year old grandson keeps his dad and Ya Ya (Grandma) occupied in the pool.

Sorry to hear Bob of your hospitalisation; hopefully by the time you read this you will be sorted and have escaped to the comfort of home and the tender care of your dear lady.

Wishing you all the best and that you are well enough to see the game by what ever means on Saturday.  😎
