RVB had a great first season with Boro, last season he wasn’t as good, so a deal worth £11.2m (with add ons) including a sell on clause, isn’t bad business, for someone we bought for around £250k although we have to give PEC Zwolle an unknown sell on %, which could be counter acted by our sell on clause to FC Koln. Will this see movement on our incoming players, maybe better quality than has been mentioned.

Come on BORO.

@john-richardson

Pleased you’re getting good treatment John, I’ve had nothing but the best care and dispute with anyone who criticises the NHS.

i know what it’s like being in that hospital as I was working down in Lowestoft years ago at the SLP YARD and had the first of my heart problems during a particularly hot night.

Three of us shared. a 5 bedroom house at Wenhaston and each had our en-suite bathrooms.

Having the heart problems middle of the night woke on of the guys and he decided as we were out in the sticks he would drive me straight to the hospital as an emergency.

i was admitted to hospital with no spare clothes or toiletries and was given a spare nightshirt. Two days passed and one afternoon with a busy full ward the phone rang at the end where the duty nurse sat. She answered the phone and said “just a minute please.” She shouted down at the top of her voice. “ Mr Bob, the gentleman you live with said he can’t find your underclothes.?”  My face turned red and in my deepest gruff voice said. “ It’s all right my wife is bringing some spare things down from my home up north!”

I then picked up my newspaper and pretended to read it …..

GET WELL SOON JOHN THINKING OF YOU AND ALL OUR  OTHER PLAYERS ON THE INJURY LIST !

OFB

@original-fat-bob And people wonder why gay footballers are afraid to come out to their teammates. I’m hoping times have changed and you wouldn’t feel the need to assert your heterosexuality in that way, these days, but from what I read on social media, we seem to have taken backwards steps in terms of tolerance.

@martin-bellamy

Well call me old fashioned but there’s never a bad time to assert your sexuality if you’re sharing a ward with 5 complete strangers 😏

My father told me a story when he was sharing a NHS ward he was woken during the night by another male patient standing by his bed completely naked - he just shouted at him “Get back to bed you bloody idiot before I call the nurse”

That’s a great Headliner Clive, giving as other have said, details of our visitors and our generally poor record is this cup, apart from “Carrick’s season”

I hope we can get a win tonight, any win will do, even more so with a clean sheet if possible.

Edwards will have to rest some of the older players, and that may include Fry as well as Ayling. Borges I assume to start and could Edmundson be ready?

I cannot see both HH and Morris being rested for the inexperienced Kante and McCabe. Just one possibly. Somebody mentioned Azaz, but I am sure I read he may be ready for Millwall. Forss for Conway perhaps, but sticking with Burgzorg and Whittaker to start.

Overall, I don’t believe RE has many options if he wants to win and progress.

As for VDB, I stated I would be happy at £8/10. Forgetting that PEC Zolle have a sell on clause. Overall I will be pleased to see it go through though. That may just up the option to tempt Columbus to sell the LB for a little more cash. And then a decent forward. I wonder if MFC are still interested in Strelec. (Is that his name?)

John. Pleased to hear you are back on the right road.
We had a few days in Norfolk last week. Never been before. Based in Shipdham, we visited Norwich, Kings Lynn, Sandringham, Holkham Hall and the East Coast. Very nice.

@pedro I have heard the place called Sandringham. Perhaps John is living there as I do not know anyone else in there ...

Glad to hear you are OK again, John. And soon back fishing with your grand son. Up the Boro!

CJ:  Nothing in the fact he's absent tonight. Just not being risked ahead of the weekend.

Well the defence and front XI are plenty strong enough so it’s all about the wingbacks and central midfield, with three being young players and one being new to the club. Kante is both of course.

It doesn’t look like Doncaster have gone with their first XI either so hopefully we can grab a few goals and rest that front three for the last half an hour or so.

Should have made it clear that that was in reference to Silvera's absence.

Boro a goal down after 11 minutes!  😮

CJ:

Boro caught out playing it around in their own half and Borges' hurried clearance gifts Doncaster possession. A shot deflects kindly to Sharp in the box and he lays off to Close whose effort is deflected in off McCormick.

Boro a goal down after 11 minutes!  😮

Make that two down after 23 minutes, apparently a Jones OG - CJ:

Boro played through far too easily. Cross from the right is all the way through to Ajayi beyond the back post. He hits it goalwards and Jones is ahead of Glover trying to block it, but he just deflects into his own net.

'How s*** must you be, this is our second team' sing the Donny fans.

Been waiting for him to say that Glover was at fault...

CJ after 30 minutes:

Boro starting to unravel a bit here. Direct ball searching for the feet of Conway, but he's again outmuscled by McGrath. Doncaster come forward and the cross from the left finds Gibson backpost, but he heads into ths side-netting. Boro just not protecting possession and being a bit bullied right now.

Five minutes later:

In a bid to bridge that gap, Whittaker is now playing as a central 10, with Conway and Burgzorg as strikers. 3-4-1-2

That slight tactical tweak has helped and Boro are starting to progress up the pitch a little. The trouble is, they're 2-0 down before they've got to grips with it.

At least there are signs that RE is actually responding relatively quickly to developments on the pitch...

All of Boro’s solidity from the weekend appears to have deserted us.

Also, as well as the obvious problems at the back, our first choice front three have seriously struggled against League One reserves. There is nothing in attack for us and with one fewer forward than we’ve been used to, we desperately need someone up front who can hold onto it.

Worrying signs - and strong ones at that - that this system just won’t work with current personnel.

We may be in the worst of both worlds whereby a number of players haven’t been rested and yet we still lose.

Fingers crossed for a strong second half, but fingers crossed is all I have to offer.

CJ's assessment of the first half:

Boro behind after a shocking opening 30 here. They couldn't match Doncaster's physicality, particularly when trying to work it up to their forwards. They didn't protect it well enough and were punished twice for it. Slight tactical tweak with Whittaker now 10 and Burgzorg striker has helped them grow into it. But they're two behind.

The worrying fact of the matter is that we have been played off the park by Doncaster's reserve XI. They have been superior in every aspect of the game, passing the ball around, creating spaces both in midfield and down the wings that have had us chasing shadows. It's particularly disappointing that first team regulars, Whittaker, Burgzorg and Conway have offered so little up front. Never thought I'd say this but Barlaser would offer at least some degree of passing quality in midfield. What do we do? Bring on players we were resting?

CJ again at the start of the second half:

Looks like they'll be unchanged for the start of the second half. Suspect Edwards has had some choice words judging by the feelings which were clear on the touchline in that first half.

Hamilton & Forss on for McCabe & Ayling in the 77th minute.

Donny makes it 0-3 in the 84th minute!  I give up!

Well your scene-setter couldn't have set the scene more accurately.

An addition to the pantheon of depressing home cup defeats to lower league sides.

Now 0-4.  If RE didn't appreciate the size of the task confronting him, he will now...
