@werdermouth If the route is to keep the ship steady by moving up Wattling, perhaps he can be back-filled by Grant Leadbitter. Ensures some continuity and I could imaging Grant being a hugely positive influence.
@powmillnaemore. It’s difficult to know what Grant brings to the party as his previous role was not clearly defined; added to the fact that he was also associated with the previous failed management team then it’s a no for me.
Would Brendan Rogers be prepared to return to the Championship or would he see us as beneath his expectations?
I see that we have just lost the manager of the women’s team but no clarity as to why!
No mention so for on the club site of a press conference today or who night be taking it!😎
Now Alfie Jones has been picked for Canada and they have two fixtures on the other side of the Atlantic with similar kick off times and dates to the Socceroos.
🙈 Not as if we've got defenders to spare! I didn't realise he was Canadian having been born in Bristol but apparently he has a Canadian grandparent - as long as he doesn't kiss the badge...
I can't see a way back for Edwards at this point, and I think Gibson will have learned from his experience with Wilder - and possibly Karanka for different reasons - that clinging onto a manager will end in tears sooner or later. Edwards is a totally different character to those two and possibly could be reintegrated but generally I think it's just better for everyone to move on.
The best option is that Boro get as much compensation as possible and let him go in my view.
As to who is next, if Viveash stays in place as Assistant then I can see Gary O'Neil being strongly linked. I know that he said something controversial about getting booked around the Christmas period when he was a player here - and Gibson is the sort to bear a Teesside grudge! - but he is young, has some management experience, is a former player and is available without compensation. A lot of boxes are ticked.
He's previously done well at Bournemouth and initially at Wolves but major cost cutting and then a porous defence ultimately did for him there. Viveash alongside might be the experienced right hand man he needs.
I'm not particularly wanting him - I would much rather that Scott and his team have been keeping a close eye on global footballing developments and have identified the next big thing - but I can see him being strongly linked if and when Edwards departs.
Well it's got everyone speculating on what next and who knows where this will take Boro in the coming weeks.
Yes I'm not sure if we'd need to add some specialist set play coach or indeed an attacking coach to the mix instead of recycling from within the club or bringing back old faces.
Can't see Gibson wanting Brendan Rogers or any coach who will want to rip it up and start again and bring in their own people. If the Edwards fiasco ends in him departing then my money will be on no immediate senior appointment happening.
@pedro agree Pedro however this one "As to who is out there, unemployed, that we could afford " would we not be in a position where we have x amount of millions in compensation to support the recruitment of another head coach ? Or would this be used for player recruitment or even swallowed up to support the upkeep of the club.

EG are reporting that today’s pre-match press conference has been cancelled. Looks as if he wants to go.! 😎
If/when RE goes will he take his management team with him and will the club need to fill more than one position? 😎
I am keeping my fingers crossed that we draw Wolves in the FA cup, at the Riverside, so that RE can be given a proper Teesside farewell! 😉😎
Really disappointed with this but hey ho thats football for you in the 21st century.
But on the other side of the coin i could sign a contract with an employer then decide after four month a better offer has come along and just leave, without my employer getting a penny.
We will be compensated and we need to use thar money wisely, I would like to see it used in tempting a manager in work, we dont need to be just looking at those out of work.
Let's face it, based on this event, we could have an in work manager in charge of the club before the end of the international break.
Still gutted though and the timing is awful, why couldn't it wait until at least Sunday.
now that would be quite a thing. I'll add that to my wish list for Santa this year 😁I am keeping my fingers crossed that we draw Wolves in the FA cup, at the Riverside, so that RE can be given a proper Teesside farewell! 😉😎
Tony Mowbray is available, local and has Middlesbrough written write through him. Could he take over on an interim basis. At least this time he would have a reasonable if not good squad to work with...
I think Viveash and Watling were club appointments of coaches and Edwards was appointed as head coach so hopefully they'll stay at Boro.

We don't even know whether Edwards was at training today or is even still in charge of the first team for the Birmingham game.
Having cancelled the 1 pm pre match press release I can’t see Edwards being at the game tomorrow.
There is no way back for him.
Philip of Huddersfield
👎☹️

I don't think many (any) of us can now Philip.
All a matter of squeezing Wolves till the pips squeak for as much compensation as we can and working out the succession plan as quickly as we can.
Professionally I think this reflects very badly on RE and you can't help but think it will be a big mistake for him to take over what is very clearly a half sunken ship. But if that is what he really wants, best for us not to stand in his way. Who knows, the problems up front we have all identified that hold us back from being the top club in this division, might have been too much for him to resolve, but the next pair of hands just might apply the right magic sauce.
So Echo now reporting that Edwards didn't take training this morning and is currently in talks with Boro bosses - I guess they won't be talking about the weather...
I agree 100%. It would be the wrong decision to fight to keep RE when it is clear he wants to go. The fight would probably be long and acrimonious and even if SG won it he would be lumbered with a head coach who wanted to be somewhere else. The effect of that on the club could be very destructive indeed. Much better to let him go and screw Wolves for every penny of compensation you can get. I am very unimpressed with the way RE has conducted himself and for me his inevitable departure will be good riddance.
@werdermouth hopefully Viveash and Watling lead the team tomorrow and hopefully stick around after Edwards leaves us.
I think Viveash seems the type to hand out a few roastings if the players arent doing what's being asked of them.
I think we’ve got to accept that this is how football works. Being a Manager isn’t like most jobs which have long term security, you’re only ever a few lost games away from being sacked.
Fans will criticise RE for leaving, but of late they’ve been criticising him for his decisions, blaming him for our failure to win games and moaning about the players he’s selected.
That’s just how football is - the club will survive the change and, who knows, the new boss may be better than the old boss!
@martin-bellamy. What you say is quite true but it doesn’t make it right or that that there isn’t an alternative.
On the face of it RE seemed to be a genuine person with the right qualities including loyalty and one who talked about being all in it together; one now has to question if it was all just a front. 😎
@k-p-in-spain thats the thing that is galling about it. It appears it was all just an act of which now none looks to have been genuine, even if some or all of it was. That is exactly why I referred to him now being seen to be untrustworthy. That will be a reputation that will now follow him.
Just had a thought. Perhaps he will be able to strengthen his new squad in early January with at least Whittaker and Burgzorg...
It would give me the greatest of pleasure next year if Boro replace Wolves in the Premiership.
🤞🤞🤞
And let's not forget, with the benefit of the (next) new manager bounce, we will be clear at the top by Christmas 😃
I am hoping this all will be an incentive to the players to go out and murder Birmingham tomorrow to show the man the potential he is walking away from.
