@martin-bellamy

Well, I think it’s on the edge of what I know as Fulwood! It’s close to a large Sainsbury’s and is a 10 minute walk from the ground.

@paulinboro

everyone at MFC is saying that these two are not linked. Long term, Whittaker is a replacement for Doak and Steve Gibson is covering the difference between the Jones sale and the purchase price. ELL is a separate issue. If he goes, he will be replaced.

@Martin B, an excellent starter.  It is fabulous to hear a comment from the other side - so a big thank you to Dave. Sometimes I get a feeling that it is only Boro supporters who are not happy with their team, manager or club. So a really refreshing starter. One of the best - or at least different and interesting.

Sorry not to thanking earlier, but I think the transfer window has taken most of my attention after the fabulous WBA win.

Personally I think the Whittaker deal is exceptionally good news. Most of us were worried when Jones was sold. Now we see the big picture. We got a better player in Jones' place. Last season the Plymouth WINGER scored 20 goals in the Championship.  Much less this season, when Plymouth has had three managers - including Rooney - and they have been the bottom club most of the season.

As far as I understand, Whittaker is not a centre fotward. He plays mainly on the right wing but can also play as a number 10. So he can play the position of Azaz,  too.

So he is NOT a natural successor to Latte Lath.

Well done Boro, Scott and Carrick.  A team work at the best. Up the Boro!

Martin,

That is a fine starter and as others have said Dave's little contribution puts a new slant and context on a preview. Well done, both of you! No forecast from me just don't lose Boro

I wonder what OFB is predicting from his cave in Stewart's Park!

All the best everyone.

UTB,

John

Well that was a let down after a promising start we again failed to convert a couple of half chances and then concede another poor goal.

Can we get anything from a losing position for a change, not looking promising so far! 😎

CJ trying something new - H/T ratings!

Tom Glover - 5

Had no chance with the opener. Besides that, barely any saves to make. Commanded his area well from corners

Luke Ayling - 4

Caught out of position for Preston opener as Thordarson cut inside and beat Glover with a curling effort.

Rav van den Berg - 5

Has been largely untroubled.

Dael Fry - 6

Had been a calm head during moments of madness. Played a superb pass to Doak.

Neto Borges - 5

A lot of the play down the Boro right in the first-half.

Aidan Morris - 4

Struggled at times in the first-half being intercepted a handful of times.

Hayden Hackney - 5

Tried his luck but has found it difficult against Preston midfield.

Ben Doak - 7

Has been a bright spark down the right, good deliveries into dangerous areas on occasions but no one there.

Finn Azaz - 5

Has looked a threat in stages but hasn't been overly involved. Struggled in the midfield battle.

Delano Burgzorg - 7

A threat going forward, across the Preston backline, forced Freddie Woodman into a good save in the first-half.

Emmanuel Latte Lath - N/A

Potentially his last game in a Boro shirt comes to a premature end. The Ivorian was in behind, after a defensive lapse, but seemingly injured himself in the action.

Substitutes

Marcus Forss - 4

Barely troubled the backline, nine touches since coming on, just two successful passes.

Exactly my thoughts, too. Hopefully back after the January transfer window closed on Feb 3rd. 😄

Up the Boro!

Boro starting the game quite brightly but didn't really create many opportunities - Latte Lath's early injury obviously hasn't helped but neither has the pitch - which looks quite heavy and cut up in places. Preston had shown very little until they scored and Boro's defence were guilty of backing off and not engaging the man but it was a good strike that curled past Glover.

It's been a fairly scrappy game since Preston scored and Boro's passing has been a bit off and the energy levels have dropped from the first 15 minutes. Can they turn the game around? Well can't see Carrick making any subs until last 15 minutes unless he thinks Giles can make an attacking difference but it's mainly a young inexperienced bench so probably not.

Just a correction: Stephen Killen there is stepping in for Craig, this afternoon. UTB!

@jarkko

Well if it's only a hamstring or muscle pull then he would probably be fit for the start of the MLS season in 4 weeks - though not sure if anyone would risk the money being spoken of in case it was a tear that lasted longer.

Quite low marks in tight contest but they have been below standard so far.

I see Tony Mowbray has inspired the Baggies to a 4-0 half time lead....

So he is.  Didn't even bother checking!  *red face*  One comment:  he's an even worse writer than CJ!

@powmillnaemore    Depends how long he out for?

Looked like his groin, not sure long that could be.

Still, a few on here have touted in the past to try Forss at CF. Not going too well at the moment though. Of course in saying that, after 20 minutes or so, PNE got into the game and then scored after giving the ball away and catching the defence out.

From then on Boro have been rather poor. Morris not at his best, and Azaz needs replacing quickly, not after 85 minutes. We will probably see Giles on first, but will anything change.

Not over yet, we we need to really improve and quickly
