Phew! They survive five minutes of injury time without conceding an equaliser. A very satisfying win. 👍
I love Latte Lath, me! A superb Azaz cross and LL's first touch - and a winner in there. Up the Boro!
Boro up one place to eighth in the table, eight points behind the Deckchairs.
@pedro When did you see Sheffield Utd to score. We were much better over the 90 min. Up the Boro!
Excellent team performance tonight and it had to be Latte Lathe off the bench to score the winner - and what a great header it was too. Indeed, the rest of the Boro players were probably even more delighted than he was - which shows the team spirit and regard of him.
This was a fully focused team and as I mentioned before the game it seems having McGree in the team just raises the level of others - Hackney always looks a much better player when he's in front of him and Azaz too plays with more freedom - especially with Morris alongside him who also had another excellent display in midfield
At the other end Edmundson continued his great first half with an even better second half and Ayling had probably his best game for some time too. Not forgetting Doak of course who is the spark that keeps the opposition worried as he shows his endless energy and danger with the ball.
So a well deserved three points that bring Boro back to two points behind three teams in the top six!
Excellent result - I hope that gives Exmil, KP and OFB a boost too! Not wishing to be modest, I did call it (player mis-descriptions apart!) UTB Chris
What I liked about that goal was the way Azaz so intelligently and exquisitely set it up. From making the space as he recieved the ball, taking it forward and looking ... he started as about to play the ball into the box, but seeing ELL not quite in a position to get there, held back, took one more step and then played the most perfectly weighted ball for ELL to provide a fittingly brilliant header into the bottom corner, from 12 yards out
That really was a goal to savour.
More like that please.
@jarkko I do not dispute, that Boro where the better team over the 90 minutes.
However, Dieng made two mistake that could of resulted in goals and in the first half especially, United had the better opportunities to score. It continued like that into the second when finally Boro took control.
Scoring goals though is THE issue. Against Bristol and United, we had 38 shots and only eight on target. Six of those tonight, so an improvement.
Carrick and the players still have to covert more shots into goals if we want to be in the top six.

And Dieng apparently sloppy/lucky a couple of times, according to one of the Sky Sports match commentators:
Enjoyed the game especially the result as I thought that it looked like a goalless draw for most of the game. Reading some of the comments on the BBC match report most Sheffield fans are not enamoured by Wilders tactics. Also interestingly with regards to the links posted by Stircrazy Whoscored had Senny Dieng as our man of the match with Ayling a close second.
Guys, I made to the match in my normal seat with help from the club and family, what a joy to be there, an entertaining game with a great goal to seal the 3 points. I was buzzing all the way home and not caused by the Oramorph I took before heading to the Riverside 😂😂😂.
Come on BORO.
So it’s a well done you for making the effort !
I must say that oromorph is powerful stuff isn’t it ?
I’m afraid I chickened out as it was on sky 😉😉
All in all a good game, and I was impressed with Azas hopefully we will all see what others do regarding his performances!
OFB
I read those comments too - this one made me laugh the most...
Wilder is a fool. Another shocking display. At best Blades are mid table, could even have a relegation battle on their hands!
@exmil Delighted you made it and was treated to a great game of football with just the right outcome. Hope you won't suffer any today after your exertion.
@OFB ... hope last night was the tonic you needed and your pacemaker managed to keep your heart rate in control!
@KP, I hope you got to see that and if you didn't, the highlights will be worth watching. Hope all is well 🤞
@original-fat-bob Re Azaz.
Like most of the team last night he took 15 or 20 minutes to get into the game. I posted last night how super impressed I was with the way he laid on that opportunity for ELL. That was classy football. Sky made him Man of the Match, although I thought there were several candidates for that (including Ayling, Morris, Edmundsen and Doak), but it would be churlish to argue over it.
One observation in Azaz, he doesn't always get good pace on the ball when passing or shooting. For all the number of goal attempts on target, very few have looked like beating the last man let alone the keeper. For every good or inciteful pass he makes that completes there is one delivered short on pace that is intercepted.
I like him. I remember advocating for him when I did a Plymouth opener a while back, so was pleased when we made a move for him. I hope that now we are beginning to see some of his potential. I just hope we will see that little more speed in the ball from his feet.
Dieng?!! I thought he looked a bit of a liability last night and could easily have cost us the game.... with regards to the links posted by Stircrazy Whoscored had Senny Dieng as our man of the match ...
I was thinking that ‘ I’d really love it ‘ if Boro could beat Sheffield and Wilder. .Unfortunately I’m on holiday with no sky sports and a 2 hour time distance so I went to bed thinking I’d find the score in the morning.
However , being of a certain age requires me to visit the loo during the night and so I couldn’t resist looking for the score. The Wi-Fi is not brilliant but after a bit of fiddling about, I saw ft Boro 1 Sheffield 0.
So I ‘ really really loved it’
The score makes me looking forward to the next game in a more positive frame of mind
Philip of Huddersfield 👍😂
@exmil Really pleased you made it to the game. The late win will have given you more of a boost than the oromorth I’ll bet. 🤣
Re Azaz
Hopefully working with a manager like Carrick who was a world class midfielder the Boro can turn Azas into a decent midfielder who can develop a shot at goal or two !
OFB
@werdermouth Yes, it is very strange how so many people, or profesional journalists in this case, can have rather differing views on player performances.
The “Wilder is a fool” quote was a bit hard. 🤣
However the journalist ones, you would expect to be more aligned.
Although we played quite well in the end and deserved the goal, there were some scary moments from individual mistakes. Dieng had a number last night. Ayling also but got some higher marks given probably because of his goal line clearance. The pass from Azaz was superb as was the goal, not easy. But, Azaz still has to do more as highlighted by PNM.
A good win though that keeps us in touch of the top six. Improvements still needed especially in the box where is was once a again over crowed to be able to get shots on target.
Well that was just the tonic I needed or perhaps not as I then had a restless night, having previously had a good day out of bed followed by an enjoyable match with a deserved, in the end, result; I think my restless night was down to the excitement of a Boro goal and win.
We looked rather nervy for the first twenty minutes which included a number of miss placed passes and some poor defending but the goal line save from Ayling seem to be the catalyst that fired us into life. From that point on we looked much more assured and on the front foot, albeit still struggling to find the cutting edge until Azaz produced a brilliant pass for ELL to run onto and plant a lovely header into the corner.
A battling performance with a number of players in contention for MoTM and for me it was Edmonds but could have been anyone of four/five others.
I just wonder if Azaz could turn into another Morgan Rodgers in time.
One bit which was concerning was no sign of Forss, hopefully not another injury.
Glad that you made it to the game Exmil and were probably on a high all night.
Doctor has just been into see me and said I can go home this afternoon!😎
@k-p-in-spain Good to hear your news and that Exmil managed to get there and see a win. OFB I hope you continue to improve take it easy until they get you sorted out.
It looked a close game to me and Ayling's save was a world as far as I'm concerned. As we often say on here, fine margins indeed. I do wonder when Mr Carrick will alter the goalkeeping arrangement. Anyway a win, I'd have taken that score before the game.
ATB and UTB,
John
Enjoyed the game, nice to see us score didn't think we were going to at one point. As we keep saying lots of nice build up but the finishing
@k-p-in-spain Great to hear you are getting home, being home is a great tonic, all the best.
Come on BORO.
@pedro, you are 100% correct the win and especially the quality of the goal would give any Boro fan a high.
Come on BORO.
@original-fat-bob Oramorph is a powerful drug, you sound like I was on Saturday, the mind was totally willing to attend but the body had other ideas, in our present states at the moment, it is better to listen to the body. Hopefully, in the not to distant future, we will both be enjoying regular visits to the Riverside.
Come on BORO.
@powmillnaemore Yes it was a great game of football with both teams contributing, so far no ill effects from last night, although I keep dozing off reading all the posts but it’s due to tiredness not the quality of the posts 😂😂😂.
Come on BORO.
Pleased you’re coming home it’s a great feeling when you get the word from the doctor.
I thought Azaz had his best game for us last night , but ,,,
Turn him into Morgan Roger’s ?
It would be easier to turn him into Kenny Rogers 🎵🎵🎵🎵
OFB
It was interesting to hear George Edmundson talking after the game last night.
Even after producing a great performance and helping to keep a clean sheet he said that “woody” had been straight over after the game and pointing out a few things that could be improved on.
You know Sometimes, I think that we misunderstand the coaching capabilities of our management team and let’s face it it’s better to have these fit young coaches at the helm rather than the 76 year old (and more) dodderers that Warnock had. It used to make me feel embarrassed!
From another old dodderer !
KEEP GOING YOU FOOL !
OFB
@original-fat-bob. Yes earlier than expected as I was booked in until Saturday.
I just hope I can stay awake long enough to get home, it takes about three hours from València to San Fulgencio.
Perhaps Azaz is an island in the stream as he floats about the pitch!
I blame it on the drugs and anaesthesia. 😎
