Today would be a great time for Iheanacho to come good.

Good to see that Borges is at least fit enough to be on the bench. 👍

Coventry player sent off 😲

The Hatters also now down to 10 men (68th minute)!

And the match finishes 1-0 to the Hatters (goal scored on the stroke of full time, before six minutes of injury time were played)!

Let's see if we can be arsed to turn up

Boro have looked disjointed, ponderous and short on ideas in that scrappy first half - hard to see where a goal is coming from at the moment - plus Norwich have looked threatening on the break without really creating anything of note. Boro need to inject some intensity into their game in the second half if they are to avoid another missed opportunity that will leave them relying on yet more favours from the their play-off rivals!

CJ on the first half:

Boro enjoying the majority of the ball, but not doing much with it. They're just so one-paced in attack and haven't given Norwich enough to worry about. It's there to be won, but they have to have more intensity in possession.

At least they're both away to Burnley and Sheff Utd on the final day should Boro mess up again!

@werdermouth

It's the lack of urgency that winds me up, it's like most home games this season, teams sit deep and we do lots of passes sideways and to the keeper

Big game for us, a nothing game for Norwich, yet there is little to choose between the two sides. Iheanacho looks a little better, but is still largely ineffective. Conway has scarcely had a kick. We haven't got any pace to get around the back of their defence and there is a general lack of quality for us in attack. We may scramble a goal, but I would say that the odds look against it at the moment. We could use a bit of inspiration from the subs bench but I don't see anyone who might provide it

Millwall currently in 7th place in the table, a place ahead of Boro, courtesy of a goal from our old friend, George Saville, but with an inferior GD.  🙁

A Boro sub in the 61st minute, four minutes earlier than usual:  Forss for Iheanacho.

So  15 minutes to go and Boro need a goal - has Carrick got any ideas on how to change things or is it just more wait and hope?

78th minute:  Giles & Burgzorg on for Iling-Jr & Whittaker.

And the gold medal for stating the bleedin' obvious goes to... CH - his comment in the 90th minute with four minutes of injury time:

Boro could really do with finding a goal here.

So Boro failed to score against a team who normally let in goals for fun and were bottom of the form table - though in truth they didn't play with any conviction for a team that knew if it won would go 6th and have everything in their own hands. Perhaps seeing Fry play as a centre forward for the last ten minutes says it all really - too many forwards not looking like they want to get in the box and score.

Still not over with Millwall and Blackburn needing to win at Burnley and Sheff Utd to finish above Boro if they win at Coventry - by no means certain but Boro have blown yet another opportunity...

The same again. We finally pick up the pace in the last twenty minutes and, hey presto, we suddenly create some opportunities around their box but can't quite take one. However, we must also acknowledge that we owe our ongoing survival to Travers and some last gasp defending.

So, all we need now are wins or draws on the last day for both Burnley and Sheffield United and a win for Boro. I am, of course, assuming that Bristol City will not lose at home to Preston even if they do lose to Leeds on Monday.

We got what we deserved today. Nothing.

Another inept, disjointed, intensity lacking performance. We looked very much like an average midtable team.

Mr Gibson has laid out a reasonable amount of money this season, for what. Overpaid lightweights on salaries (if you believe Capology) that are beyond comprehension given their output

That should have been "CJ",  if course, but I spotted the error too late to correct it!    What a pity Marcus Forss couldn't give Jarkko a visit to the Riverside to remember.  🙁

Boro have no excuse for not being in the top 6. They have almost been gifted the position in the last few weeks.  The fact remains that the players, individually and collectively, together with the chosen pattern of play over the whole season just isn’t good enough.

So, whether we want it or not, change must happen to the personnel and to the tactics. There can be no debate on this.

The only question is, should it include the manger and his staff ?
Carrick strikes me as a very decent kind of person who can probably attract younger players but has had long enough to achieve success- defined as a minimum of a top 6 position.
Reluctantly he and his lieutenants have to go. Who replaces them? No idea.
Will it bring success? No idea.
But does any supporter want another season like this ?   I don’t.

End of season for me - need to find something to interest me for the next few months.

Disappointing, but the bigger truth is that we are a million miles away from being a Premier League team and are not even credible pretenders. Carrick asked for quality rather than quantity in recruitment at the end of last season and Scott has not not delivered on that. The only players of Premier League standard we have seen have been Doak and Latte Lath, neither of whom were available to us when the chips were down. We entered the final games of the season with an unsettled squad, three new underperforming signings and lacking both pace and firepower up front. Jones, discarded so casually, has not been adequately replaced by any of the three players tried out wide on the right and we have certainly missed both his pace and his defensive qualities during the final run-in.

@lenmasterman

Yes, spot on and the management must bear the responsibility for a season that looks like petering out into a failure.  But will anyone be held accountable for their poor decisions or will the management structure and team drift quietly into next season with unchanged?

@philip-of-huddersfield The excuse (reason?) could just be that our players aren’t good enough. Who takes the blame for that is (almost) anybody’s guess.

I refuse to get too down about it all - I wanted to finish seventh (weird, I know) and not have to risk a demoralising season in the EPL. I could get my wish yet.

The answer to my question was a resounding no. If ineffectchio is the answer god only knows what the question is

@paulinboro

The question might be "Which player did we recently sign without bothering to check on his current fitness and form ?"
