Aston Villa have decided to recall Louie Barry from Stockport County in January and send him straight back out on loan amid interest from Sunderland alongside Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Middlesbrough (Daily Mirror)

Louie is Greth Barry’s son and strong x reports are that Louie is coming to Boro!

@original-fat-bob - I've just looked him up on Google (might have been Chrome!) to find the lad is 21 years old and, though now signed to Aston Villa, he has so far this season been on loan to Stockport County in Div 1.  But he is well travelled in the youth and loan world, having been loaned out by Villa to Ipswich when they were in League 1, Swindon in League 2, MKDons in League 1, and then at Swindon last season and this season (League 1). He also spent some time in the Barcelona youth structure/teams.  This season when he went back to Stockport he has played 20 League 1 games so far plus one other game, and scored league 14 goals.

Could he be Cameron Archer or is he more like Aaron Ramsey

@original-fat-bob Thank you for the info. But I am more interested in, that Latte Lath won't be leaving us in January. He is a great player for us.

Elsewhere, I saw part of the Bournemouth vs. West Ham match on TV. I have always thought they are a lower league club (like Fulham used to be).

The Vitality Stadium - or Dean Court - is the smallest stadium in the Premier League with a capacity of 11,307. I often wonder how they can be above Boro in the league. We deserve to be in the EPL, too.

What surprise me more, is the fact, that the Cherries are currently sixth in the EPL - just two points behind Manchester City. If we ever get promoted, we should take a look at things done by Brentford, Fulham, Brighton and Bournemouth.

But first we must get out the Championship.  Up the Boro!

@jarkko The trouble is, no team “deserves” to be in the EPL - you can only get there on merit and we’ve got a long way to go before we can achieve promotion from the Championship.

@jarkko. “What surprise me more, is the fact, that the Cherries are currently sixth in the EPL - just two points behind Manchester City. If we ever get promoted, we should take a look at things done by Brentford, Fulham, Brighton and Bournemouth.”

Some of us have been saying for years that if the teams mentioned above can get promoted and survive in the EPL, then why not us.

Unfortunately we have wasted a lot of years and can but hope that the club is finally on the right track and with a format and philosophy that will deliver the outcome we all desire; only time will tell and this is a crucial year I feel. 😎

It looks as though Latte Laths agent is looking to engineer a move in the transfer window. would an agent issue a statement if his client was against a move. Logically no.

So this is potentially not good news. Just hope that if there is serious interest then there’s more than one team interested so Boro can get the best price. If one of them is Ipswich then , career wise, it would not be a good move as they are odds on to be relegated. So any move to Ipswich could only be financial.

To lose Latte would seriously damage a top 6 place.

You are right. Nobody deserveds to be there.

I meant we can only blame ourselves that we are not in the EPL. We SHOULD be there. And stay there if we do things correctly.  As KP said above, we might be on the right track.

Up the Boro!

@philip-of-huddersfield.    I think Ipswich could just about escape relegation with a couple more decent buys, if they work out of course.

Latte Lath up front and a better CB.

There is now a lot of noise coming out, some will be true and some, not so.

Every player has his price and would want to try and benefit himself aswell. An increase is wages, probably doubling, even at Ipswich. They may come down but would one of the favourites to go back up.

A lot of their players may NOT be top end EPL, but certainly top end Championship.

Mr Gibson, I am will get the best price available. The starting point is of course what Ipswich offered on the last day.

However, we do need to conduct any business if LL is to be sold, very quickly.

I am sure, we will have somebody lined up. Maybe it will be who pays the biggest loan fee for Barry??

What does Steve Gibson do if bids came in for our top three players, we know who they are, and if those bids combined were something like £75 million. Would you be OK if he accepted to all three bids.

It might put us back one season, but it would give us time to revamp certain positions,  this talk of Barry ,I think is a sign Lathe going.

@gt

As I have suggested earlier, I would sell Lathe Lath for anything over Pds25 million - a profit of Pds20 million or thereabouts - but try to keep Hackney and Van Den Berg until the end of the season. They are both young and still getting better and don't need to move on now for the benefit of their career.

The tricky one could be Azaz. What happens if we get a really serious offer for him. I'd like to thank that we would be able to keep him.

@original-fat-bob - You've GOT to go for a win against Plymouth.  I accept no-one can count on a win and they must be earned, but surely with our squad Boro must be capabale of earning that win against Argyle!  Otherwise let's stop wasting breath talking about promotion!

Do I sense your concern that a 'Typical Boro' could be in the offing. Let's hope not. I'm going for a win and we have the curse of the ex-player on our side which should see Azaz do something special.

Some very interesting preliminary comments on the Plymouth game from Selwyn, Bob and Dormo. I have sent off my piece to Werder so it should be up soon, but it's fascinating to me that you clever posters have picked up on some of my major themes (including, Selwyn, the ex-player syndrome) which took me days to work out, straight off the tops of your heads.

Doubt appears in the dim flickering candle light in the Marton Grotto? Once a Boro supporter always a Boro supporter . . . I think Mr Carrick and the team will sort out Plymouth.

@gt The codon signals appeared to there a week or more ago in the Gazette although his agent appears every transfer window banging on about distractions, loyalty to Boro. No doubt it will come as a huge surprise to him, but not to us, after the softening up that seems to have been spread about.

UTB,

John

From today's Guardian

The defensive selection had looked makeshift, with Archie Gray at centre-back and at right-back, Djed Spence making his first Premier League start since joining from Middlesbrough in August 2022. Could a discarded relic from the Antonio Conte era deliver an instant impact? Spence marching through the yawning gap in Saints’ midfield and laying on James Maddison to score after 38 seconds provided an answer.

“He’s been patient, and he’s a great lad,” said Maddison. “Djed is quite a laid back character anyway, so I don’t think he needed too much of a pep talk.”

Much to everyone's surprise, maybe we will get the top up transfer fee on Spence as well. [...]

From the Beeb's live commentary on the EFL Cup QF match between Spurs & Man U:

Huge night for Djed Spence:

Tottenham defender Djed Spence has only played 186 minutes across seven appearances in all competitions before tonight.

But Ange Postecoglou, who has had some harsh words to say about him this season despite renewing his deal earlier in the season, has to pick him now with nine senior players out injured, ill or suspended.

Spence has done well so far, including a lung-busting run to win the ball ahead of Noussair Mazraoui to get him booked.
