It’s been an interesting day. The car broke down on the way home from the dentist in Scarborough and I finally got back almost 5 hours later. What I really need now is a Boro win.

@martin-bellamy it the wheels that we need to keep coming off Leeds promotion challenge tonight, not off your car 😉

Glad you made it home in time for the match.

Danger man Dan (James) puts the Dirties in front after only two minutes!  🙁

Well Boro got caught cold at the start and are lucky to be only one goal down as Leeds had a second goal wrongly disallowed for offside.  Leeds more effective both on and off the ball.

I would be inclined to take KI off and strengthen the midfield with DB or MW in the hope of creating something, as we have failed so far to have a shot on target. 😎

TC goal ruled offside in the 23rd minute, the one for the Dirties 11 minutes later, wrongly, according to CJ.  Then a wasted chance a minute later - CJ:

Boro go straight up the other end after the disallowed goal and Iling-Jr cuts back from the byline right into Iheanacho's path. He's unmarked, but makes a right mess of it. Fires first time way over the bar. You can hear the frustrations of Boro fans at him immediately. Poor.

Well. Thanks to the linesman, OFB's 2-1 prediction is still looking good...

Not the start we needed and some luck with their 'offside goal' too - though apart from that it's been a fairly even contest but the pace of Leeds has caused us problems and that's only basically PL-lite compared to what any club getting promoted will face. Makes me wonder if any of the Boro players would actually be able to handle the PL should we somehow end up getting into the play-offs and winning them.

Iheanacho not looking like he's going to score other than in Rugby League tonight and would rather see Whittaker on the pitch - would settle for a draw now!

Leeds are the better side but we're still in it. Was there a hint of offside on the first goal. It looked tight but without VAR it was never going to be picked up. Their 'second' was very clearly onside.

I've tried to be fair but I can't see what Iheanacho brings to the side. I'd give Whittaker a go.

Anything that we get out of this game will be a bonus.

I agree about Iheanacho. Totally anonymous in the first half except twice failing to finish and once to give the ball away. I would prefer Burgzorg in rhe middle with Whitaker on instead.  45 minutes to turn this around.

Feel sorry for forBoro players having to play with Ineacho who had a good chance in the first half but his shot went miles wide. But worse still , he seems off the pace and when players like Conway are charging around closing players down , he is not.

philip of Huddersfield 👎👎☹️

Iheanacho has contributed nothing and once more Azaz is not far behind him. Too much loose passing from Boro.

Iheanacho replaced by Whittaker in the now regulation (for MC) 65th minute.

James off injured in the 72nd minute & replaced by Paddy Bam Bam, who has a goal disallowed for offside a couple of minutes later!  CJ:

His first touch is putting the ball in the back of the net as Leeds break from a Boro FK after Hackney misjudges one that bounces over him.

Like the one in the first half, replays show he's on... That'll be controversial if Boro get anything from this one. After last season's win here though, few Boro fans will have sympathy for Leeds!

Forss on for Burgzorg in the 80th minute.

Big disappointment. Iheanacho shouldn't be in the match day squad again this season.

What would you give to have seen Josh Coburn in for us tonight....

Boro had 17 shots on goal but only 2 on target and quite a lot of those sailed over the bar or were shanked wide - we probably had 6 decent chances to score but nobody had the composure. Still, Leeds had 2 goals wrongly chalked off for offside so they probably deserved the win but Boro were on top for the majority of the second half and needed to do better with the chances - oh for still having Latte Lath instead of Iheanacho - also Azaz needs resting too as he's not been effective for some weeks now.

A competitive game of football for the neutral supporters with a lot of effort  by both teams.    It would have been an injustice if Leeds had not won simply because they had 2 legitimate goals wrongly disallowed.

A score of 0-1 doesn’t reflect the chances both teams had. From Boro’s viewpoint that was a big disappointment as they had lots of chances to score. My Huddersfield friends would say we saw the real Burgzorg who couldn’t even get 2 good chances on target. Ineacho still has to prove himself.  Perhaps Boro have discovered a new young attacking wing back?
Bad result with Bristol City winning. So we now look to see how Coventry do with their game in hand.

Meanwhile, all that really matters is how Boro do in their next game and their next games after that.

Still twists and turns to come. At least it keeps us all interested.

@werdermouth A good summary. But not the end of the world. Still in the playoffs.

But the match at Millwall on Saturday is massive. Luckily they will miss their best striker - who scored the only goal at Sheffield United today.

Luckily Coburn is unavailable against us 🙃.

Up the Boro!

Bristol City have some tricky games to come against Sunderland and a trip to Leeds - plus a trip to Luton who are unbeaten in their last 5 games

Disappointing, but you cannot argue that Leeds deserved it overall.

Boro rode their luck more than twice, however they did not take advantage of being still in the game throughout the second half.

Why oh why does Carrick let them try, and try again to play through packed defences, lose the ball or see shots blocked or miss the goal completely as they have little to aim for.

I thought we had turned a corner with Iling starting to get crosses in, only to revert to type once more tonight.

It drives me mad..

Nice one for Coburn also tonight. 90 minutes, a goal to boot and a win against Sheffield United.

Maybe we should have brought him back instead of the cart horse.we loaned in.

@pedro I think the cart horse scored one and passed two times for a goal in the previous two matches. So made two and scored one. But should have scored another one today, too.

Boro played very well in the second half even though Leeds parked the bus in their penalty area for the last 20 to 25 min. You could see how happy they were to get a win in the end.

Up the Boro!

Only just, Jarkko:  we've slipped a place to sixth (Bristol City having taken our fifth spot) & Coventry's only a point behind with a game in hand...

According to the Beeb, Big Josh is Millwall's "specialist away goalscorer, Coburn netting his sixth goal of the season and his fifth on the road".

@Werdermouth has perfectly summed up the dilemma posed by this game. If Leeds hadn't taken all three points, the Leeds club and fans would be raising a massive hue and cry about two perfectly legitimate goals disallowed for off side. It might still happen. However, with the score at 1-0, Boro were able to take over the game and Azaz and Bergzorg had at four gilt-edged chances that would have given us at least a draw, undeserved though it might have been. What does that then say about our ability to play against strong teams? How good are we?

As I am writing the preview for the Millwall game, I won't add too many comments or forward thoughts to this post, except to say that Illing Junior seems a really good acquisition. Instead I'll wait until the last three games in the Championship round have been played and then post my intro early Thursday Sydney time. That way, I can add a paragraph giving some perspective of what lies ahead.

The fact is ,let's be honest, Gibson,Scott and Carrick have assembled Championship caliber players for a Championship caliber team, no better no worse, a team to finish anywhere in the top ten, inconsistency abounds with these type of players.

What's concerning is when you have a coach who persists on pickin the ones who are let's say the worse of a limited bunch.

If Mcgree can't get in this team either Carrick is blind or Mcgree as gone down hill faster than a bobsley run,

I will say in some respects there was some improvement against Leeds , but the usual bad decisions showed up,

I think a change at coach should be made, it's gone static, and new eyes, and voice is needed , around ten players will be gone and that's a big opportunity to rethink and reset

@jarkko

I was at the game last night, first for 8 years. I had a digital ticket. In the email there was a link to add it to my apple wallet and when I hit the link the ticket magically appeared. I also have a ticket for Millwall away. For the Leeds game I had to purchase a Boro membership as you had to have 2 priority points to purchase. This gave me ten points. I had no problem getting a ticket as I had a UK address for posting during our trip as they only send by mail.

First game live at the Riverside for  8 years, Burnley 0-0 in the Premier League. So haven’t seen a home goal since 2014! My take on the match. I thought that the atmosphere was good particularly before the game when they turned the music off so the fans provided the atmosphere. Leeds had in the first half had the one thing we lack  , pace Dan James in particular. Both sides were guilty of poor finishing at times, linesmen not permitting. Agree with others on Icheano not good enough. Overall enjoyed the night, apart from the result, it was so much better than watching on TV, apart from being cold.

Disappointed but not surprised by last night’s result.  Leeds deserved the win and should not have had two goals disallowed; Leeds were more effective with and without the ball and showed what a “PL lite”, as Werder described them, looks like.

Leeds in the second half gave us a lesson on how to close out matches aided by our regular failure of lack of composure in front of goal.

Sadly, we have a team which can play good football at times but are far too inconsistent with the inevitability that we will struggle to make top six/win promotion.

The loss of LL has not helped and the recruitment of KI has proved a poor decision.

If KI starts on Saturday then I will believe there is a clause in his contract which states that if he fails to start a certain number of games, then we will bear the full cost of his salary. 😎

I do think Carrick has now proven, that he lacks the ability to change his team shape, especially during the game, and after three seasons still lacks that tactical ability of the better Coaches.

Conway is a box striker, shown again by his offside goal. Yet, Carrick generally persists in playing a system that does not service him. OK, we have lost Doak, a big loss I admit. But where are the balls in behind the defence.

Knowing Doak will not be will us next season, would it have not been better to have used the Jones and Whittaker money and bought a right winger with pace.

It is the one major item we lack in the squad

As for promotion, forget it. It is probably written in the stars....last game against Coventry, we need to win to finish in sixth above them.

Crikey, the optimism didn’t last long did it? Ok, we lost a game to a team who are highly likely to achieve automatic promotion, but we could have won it if we’d managed to get some shots on target.

Yes, Iheanacho was poor, but equally, Burgzorg missed the target on more than one occasion. On another day we’d have stolen a point.

We can still finish in the top 6 - to even suggest sacking MC seems crazy to me. Who’d be a football manager?
