The press are reporting that the decision on the next manager has been made but there’s no white smoke from Middlesbrough f.c.

Does anyone have an insight on what, if anything, has been decided.

@martin-bellamy

Don't get your knickers in a twist

SG does have a tendency to follow the popular social narrative of the day,piggy backing on certain extreme issues   that's all I've got say.

Don't rise to it, Martin. You would be wasting your time. Just enjoy your holiday

@gt That’s it? I’ve got to relax and not get my knickers in a twist?

I despise the use of “woke” as a pejorative term, particularly when the user can’t explain what they mean by its use. I’d love to know what the “extreme issues” are and how they’re relevant to his choice of a new manager, even if it is all you’ve got to say.

Too late, Len, I’m afraid. I made a vow to myself when I turned 60, that I’d not ignore stuff like this. It’ll do me no good, but at least I’ll know that I asked for an explanation.

On reflection how many players were not coached up, by Carrick, Coburn, Silvestre, McCabe, Finch, AJMaethews, Wilson, Hunt, Engel. Even senior players, the coaches job is to make them better, some have gone back over,maybe that was an issue

Martin you ask, what does woke got to do with employing a manager, could he be persuaded to hire someone he may not be 100% sure about ,can I say Monk

You’ve completely lost me now. Employing Monk wasn’t woke - it was an error of judgement. You’re going to have to share your definition of woke with me.

My friend a woker is someone who follows , a trend , someone who reacts to feelings rather than facts,

Martin,

I beseech you, for your own sanity, go no further down this rabbit hole. It has no bottom.

Ditto. I fear this is one of those occasions where one can never find the answer, simply because it isn't there.

If ever a word has become one that should be readily avoided in conversation then it is surely 'woke' - it's become both an emotional release and a trigger that has more baggage than terminal 5 at Heathrow and almost always creates controversy. I've consciously stopped using it even by accident - except in this post of course 🙂

Great Times for all jokery

And much jiggery pokery

As members debate, the meaning of wokery

To the unhappy bloke, who’s meaning of woke

Suggests he’s on coke, or making a joke

Maybe put down your toke,

and consult some wise folk

Or throw off the yoke, and give Google a poke

It’s not just the sun that can sadly evoke

The symptoms of red face that comes from heatstroke

So calm yourself down, be like a strong oak

And accept; Mr B’s, just woker than woke.

@martin-bellamy great little ditty.

I used the phrase "a bit of jiggery pokery" in an email I was sending to a colleague working at Kodak HQ in Rochester NJ back in the middle 80s, as a technical term ( 😉 ) to explain what I had done to fix a problem with a database. He came back almost straight away having been very offended by what he thought was something rather unpleasant. I'd like to say I learned my lesson, but the lesson I did learn was that was great sport to fit good old fashioned British idioms into any communication I have with Americans based in the USA !!

One snippet I’ve picked up over the sacking of Carrick, Carrick and Woodgate. (Sounds like a firm of solicitors doesn’t it ?)

Apparently the Boro review concluded that when there was a change in the coaching staff at Boro it coincided with a decline in performances. (We’ve all said that !)

Yhe Boro management held a meeting with Michael Carrick and proposed sacking Woodgate and Carricks brother and hiring two new coaches to work under MC.

Apparently he refused so they all went !
