@mw-in-darwin.  Could be but there are also suggestions that to remain within FFP regulations West Ham will need to sell players.

Also Sammy Silvera is not getting much game time at Portsmouth and has received adverse fan reaction recently; I believe Boro can recall in the window but like Hemming would probably have to send him out on loan again given the current number of players Boro have registered. 😎

I'd go for Illias Chair of QPR , I think he would compliment Hackney, better than Burlaser , he wouldn't cost an arm and a leg too.

According to the Echo, Boro have said there's been no contact from Leicester over Latte Lath - so maybe just paper talk...

It looks as though Ben Doak is safe at Boro for the rest of the season:

while Zach Hemming has rejoined St Mirren on loan until the end of the season:

An interesting Ben Doak development in that Liverpool have apparently told him he is not in their plans, amazingly they are happy to sell the player, starting at £25million. If he goes and Jones goes where does that leave the promotion push?

This 'window' is the most disruptive arrangement for clubs not in the Premiership. Obviously Boro have coached him well and been a shop window for him. That's business. Or is it fake news?

UTB,

John

Sometimes it's the fit, when it comes to signings ,and how a coach sees their qualities, I was a fan of Patrick Roberts, couldn't understand how the then coaches ,were never patient with him ,you see now what he is doing at Sunderland, very productive, in the scheme of things.

I young player I saw two three seasons  ago, I thought was going to be a super star , very skillful, just one of those different types, I'm talking about a player who is now available still only twenty two ,and I think in the right coaching environment, regain his mojo, would be a bargain, the name Joe Geldhart at Leeds , sometimes you can lose confidence, but ability and talent you can't,

Each Coach as their views, but when clubs keep changing them, how can you move forward, with consistency, we've been too wishy washy for too long , right now we are not too far off, at least in this division.

Does anyone know how the squad system works in this window? We have a full squad of 25, are we allowed to buy or loan a player and not play them, or do you have to remove a player before you can buy or loan?

Terrible news for us if it's true that Slot has told Doak that there is no place for him at Liverpool. It suggests he'll be sold for around £20m plus add-ons in this window, and, as John says, that surely means that we have to hang on to Jones, otherwise our right side will be as unproductive as our left. Top six then becomes a much more remote possibility

Ah well...  Ross County won the 3rd away game on the trot, to leap up the Scottish Premiership table.

As for Doak, if you take a player on loan then, subject to thw terms of the written agreement, it will always be up the "owner club" to decide what happens to him - recall to the owner club, sell on or whatever. Let's say he went to Ipswich Town for £20M, he will immediately get wages above Boro's ability to pay.  Ipswich, if relegated this season, would certainly be one of the favourites to gop stright back up again and, with their parachute payments could probably offer him a deal that would give him at least 18 months there (if not promoted).

I suppose if you take a player on loan it might end up with (a) the player being SO GOOD that Boro secures promotion (and maybe then could buy the player, but even if that would be impossible, other players could be bought instead) or (b) the player does really well but Boro doesn't secure promotion (in which case the loanee will return to his own club an improved player who can then play in their team, or be sold for a decent price or (c) the player does OK but nothing to shout about (Boro stays in the Championship and maybe the loanee goes to another club on loan in the hope of rescuing his hopes of a successful career at a high level in football) or (d) he is shockingly poor in his performances so that he soon drops out of the matchday squad at Boro and either languishes in the "reserves" until his loan expires or he goes back to his owning club and then maybe on loan to a lower league club.  There are always risks involved.

@forever-dormo Luckily Boro has realised that, too. So we have only two loan players  -Doak and Edmundson.  And the latter will be out of contract in the summer 2025. So we might sign him like we did with Ayling in 2024 after his loan.

So the risk is there Liverpool could sell him if a big money offer arrives. But that is football, and we must have a plan B available to replace him, if needed.

On the right side we could play Marcus Forss,  too. And naturally Isaiah Jones.

I am more worried about Latte Lath to stay, though. A proven goal scorer is far more difficult to replace.  But the offer must be really good for us to sell. He won't be sold less than 20 too 25 million?

Up the Boro!

Middlesbrough favourite Matt Crooks is on the verge of a return to England, as he undergoes a medical at Championship rivals Hull City.

@jarkko - Marcus Forss was last seen chatting to Sleeping Beauty (and that was BEFORE she went for that extended sleep).  It's been so long since he played any real role at Boro that you need a video library to remind yourself how good he was if he got a chance in the penalty area.

Middlesbrough have been among a number of Championship clubs credited with an interest in the signature of highly-rated Aston Villa forward Louie Barry following the conclusion of his successful loan spell with Stockport County, but they could yet be better-served by eyeing a move for another young, promising and out-of-favour attacker in the claret quarters of the Second City - and that's Jaden Philogene.

Liverpool to keep Doak at Middlesbrough until the end of the season

According to local Liverpool papers the parent club plan to keep Doak at the Riverside Stadium until the end of the season, even with Palace and now Ipswich Town making transfer offers to sign the teenage Scottish sensation.

Now, there is an incentive to get promoted then, and we could be in box position to sign him permanently.....

| Brentford and Fulham have joined the race for Ben Doak.

Hearing about this I suppose Hartlepool and Darlington will want to make a bid as well !

@original-fat-bob But we got there first. I must say well done to Boro. The recruitment team and MC have done very well, indeed.

Just hope we have some good options in our hands IF we ever lose Doak or Latte Lath.

Up the Boro!

So the seed planted by Kieron Scott many months ago that Jones was surplus to requirements has finally come to pass. It's a ridiculous decision, since when Doak leaves, whether next week or at the end of the season, Jones represents our strongest right wing option.

The idea that Forss and Hamilton, both Scott signings, of course, give us adequate coverage, is for the birds. The last time I recall Forss playing wide was around a year ago, we lost 6-1 and the left back facing him was given such free rein that he was man of the match. And when is Forss going to be back from injury? And what will his form be like?

Hamilton, according to Scott, shouldn't be judged now, since the hope is that we will see his true potential later this season. The truth is that the lad has yet to show that he is worth a place in the squad, let alone the first XI.

Jones's absence will leave us severely weakened and could well cost us a play-off place. At £3m plus add-ons there will be a long line of Championship rivals willing to take him off our hands.

All the evidence I have seen indicates that Jones is highly regarded by the coaching staff and that this is yet another deal conducted over their heads.

It's apalling

Len

We don’t know what’s been happening behind the scenes and Jones hasn’t looked like the same player that he was for some time.

At certain points of a players career like our own a change is needed to rejuvenate and refresh the mind and spirit.

Hopefully he will go to Luton not WBA and be near to his original home.

First, the Jones situation,  two clubs ,one looking for a manager the other about to, I'd be surprised if they would be making moves right now?

Just a thought,  watching the Arsenal game last night , the commentators where regailing all Arsenal are missing is a true striker , who can get in behind the defense score goals etc,

Now this is where the Snobbery of the Premiership comes in, they travel the world to buy, exotic names  for silly fees, I guess hoping they will sell season tickets,

The other day Eddie Howe comes out and says Issak is worth £120 million ,OK I've seen him very good player , however what is he doing that Latte Lath isn't ,  , you can say he's doing it against better defenders , but he is also playing with a better supply of chances

My point £120m verses let's say £ 20m with add one,  it's all optics , hope we don't give him away.
