Assuming that he succeeds in avoiding relegation, do you think that there's any chance that NW would stay with the club next year - or later - as a DOF/mentor for a new manager. There must come a point where he doesn't feel up to handling the day to day business of managing a football team but still craves the involvement and the excitement that football brings.

Late to this one, but delighted to get a priceless win (with the added bonus that a manager at work is a Stoke fan, so while being magnanimous about it there's one less reason for him to be a patronising so and so). From what I can tell NW went for a back to basics approach, the luxury of someone new and previously disconnected coming in, looking objectively at our strengths and weaknesses without any of the baggage of being here for months, and picking what he considered to be the right line-up. Good stuff, gives me hope that it will turn out to be all right, and that Boro might just be (whisper it) good enough to stop up.

On the players who have been given extensions and let go, I have little argument. Howson's additional year looks absolutely fair enough to me. I'm disappointed about Ayala, but I can understand the situation. Gestede strikes me (more than he did the ball at goal) as one of Boro's poorer signings in recent seasons. That's really saying something, but the guy was gash, a complete drain on our resources for such scant return, and the sooner we parted terms the better. I'm honestly trying to think of a worse value for money transfer we've made over the last few years - there have been a few gems, and Guedioura comes close, but 'Rudinho' has been a shocker, not least for the cynical way he seemed utterly unconcerned apart from when his contract was on the line. Very poor.

@boroexile.  Based on his previous recruitment record he would probably recommend a couple of mountain goats! 😎😂

@k-p-in-spain

I’m not so sure because mountain goats are very agile.  More probably a couple of yaks.

Speaking of “ a couple of Yaks” Stojanovic used a completely different “couple” to make a save on Saturday ( without even flinching!) Neil Warnock can’t have failed to see what this keeper is prepared to put on the line for the cause. I would imagine he has cemented his place for the rest of the season.

@grovehillwallah,

They must be made of steel, I saw that and it looked painful but there were no histrionics, just focus and get on with it. Long may that attitude continue.

Stay safe,

@john-richardson

There is a lot riding on our next game, I know that might seem bleeding obvious, but a second match away to fellow strugglers is going to make one major difference to our whole outlook (if we win).

Breathing space is something we have not had this season, and would make a change. Plus a couple of our good young players will have a chance to bed into this team and really show their capabilities going forward, no names no pack drill, but we all know who they are.

Hi all,

Any thought about the match on Thursday? I think it will be tougher than the Stoke match. We are not going there as underďogs any more as everybody will be expecting yet another Warnock miracle. Hull will be prepared.

Of course the win at Stoke gives confidence and we can get a draw or nick a win if we play with same tempo and commitment. But awe lso need some luck as we had at Stoke where they could have easily scored a goal or a brace.

So a tough match at Hull. Maybe a 1-1 -draw with Britt putting us infront first. Up the Boro!

Jarkko - since you raised the subject of the next game (they come thick and fast), I thought I'd better post a Hull v Boro: Preview thread as I'm just about to get started on a long day on another project!
