Reference Lenihan, have Boro received a bid for Fry or McNair 🤔

Come on BORO.

I doubt it to be honest, Exmil.

I think the majority of Championship clubs would be priced out of both, certainly Fry, whilst it's difficult to see why a Premier League club would spend a relatively large fee for players who aren't especially young and don't have much top level experience. There are better priced options overseas in most cases.

The clubs with parachute payments would be the most likely options but I doubt Boro would be interested in selling to them.

There's only Fry, McNair and Tavernier who I can see attracting any interest but I'm expecting all three to line up for Boro next season on the basis that they're not quite proven enough to command the sort of fee I think we would accept for them.

Andy, I hear what you say but there have been reports of Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley and Wolves being interested in a summer move for Fry. Admittedly I can not see Fry entertaining a move to Burnley, after what happened to Gibson. The reason I raised the thought was, why do we need another right footed CB, when there are more pressing requirements, yes I know he is out of contract but there will be a signing on fee and wages.

Come on BORO.

Exmil,

I guess it would be filling the gap left by Bamba and Peltier. Also worth noting that Lenihan was Blackburn’s captain and we know that Wilder is looking for leaders.

Its hard to imagine him starting ahead of Djiksteel at RCB so interesting to see if he’ll play in the centre or on the left, or not at all.

Internet has Boro linked with a loan deal for Adam Armstrong from Southampton. Although wages could be difficult.

So the transfer window opened today, Friday 10th June. But Boro did not announce a single new player.

I suppose the free transfer players will only arrive after their contracts run out on 30th June. And most managers and players still on holiday mood and the real discussions will start next week.

Up the Boro!

A shock transfer away from the Boro!

Nathan Wood has completed a permanent move to Swansea City.

The defender, 20, joins the Welsh side for an undisclosed fee in pursuit of regular first-team football.

Wood become Boro’s youngest-ever player when he made his his professional debut aged just 16 years and 75 days back in 2018.

The centre-back has since had loan spells with Crewe Alexandra and Hibernian, while he made two appearances - one in each domestic cup competition - for Boro last season.

The best wishes of all at MFC go to Nathan for the coming season and his future career.

Sad to learn that. Up the Boro!

Apparently Spence is going to Spurs after they agreed a fee worth £20m with MFC

Reports of  Wood  signing for Swansea on a 2 year deal.

Clearly Wilder doesn’t rate him.

We have always been told Wood was an excellent talent and at 20 can only improve.

I find it strange when Boro are signing other Clubs young players.

20mill is exactly the price that I was hoping for and represents a great bit of business. I’ll be surprised if anyone has anything negative to say even if the deal comes without any sell-on percentages or other bonuses. Maybe a bonus for an England cap would be nice but that’s probably being greedy.

Now we really get to see what Scott and Wilder are made of.

PS. I’m a bit surprised by the Wood deal but I know that we have other central defenders coming through and maybe Wood just hasn’t progressed in the last couple of years.

Well, he didin't get much playing time - if any - on loan to Hibs during the six months he was there before January 2022.

Fair comment Jarkko.

How do people feel about Adam Armstrong. I think that he would be a tremendous season loan ideally with an option to buy.

Although the wood deal is noted as undisclosed fee, I am led to believe it was for £million which represents good value for Boro.

He was touted as the next Gibson or Fry but does not appear to have made the progress expected.

A wasted season for him just gone and possibly a change of club may help.

However I am very surprised that any team (in the Championship) would pay anywhere near four million for a relatively untried player.

I would assume if that figure ha been given (and OFB has given some good info previously)then it probably comes with caveats and add ons.

What will be interesting to see is if he plays in the first team at all or starts on their bench.

Wood's market value is about £ 300 000 at the moment. If we got even half a million, I would be happy. https://www.transfermarkt.com/nathan-wood/profil/spieler/503990

But of course I hope OFB is correct with his rumoured fee.

I don’t like quotes of certain strikers being “almost guaranteed a regular quota of goals”.  I stlll remember such words being used about Andy Donaldson, Ken McPherson, Peter McKennan and Neil Mochan in the 1950s and more recently Mido, Jeremie Aliadiere, Afonso Alves (105 goals in 150 appearances with former clubs before signing for Boro’, so might have been considered as a guarantee of more goals than he produced), Massimo Maccarone (although he did score some spectacular goals) and Brit Assombalonga (although he started well enough). Admittedly most of these were when Boro were a First Division side, but you have to go back to Charlie Wayman (33 in 58 appearances), Micky Fenton (162 in 269), John O’Rourke (42 in72), Brian Clough (204 in 222) and Alan Peacock (141 in 238) as the only players in my lifetime to have scored over 50% of goals scored against appearances.

Of course I’m not expecting Adam Armstrong to reach those dizzy heights, but Dwight Gayle did score 24 goals in 41 appearances on loan to West Brom in the 2018/19 season, and a similar age to Wayman when he played for Boro as Gayle is today, so worth a couple of years in the Championship in my opinion.

Out of the strikers Boro have been linked with, this one I think would be a good loan move:

A few months ago when there was talk of the top six Premiership clubs breaking away and forming an elitist European League I mischievously suggested that if they played each other once home and away that would provide a total of 10 matches or even 20 a season and make up the balance with matches against European clubs. Let them get on with it I ventured to suggest as that might lead to a reduced Premier League 1 and 2 of 20 clubs in each league if 2 from League 1 we’re also added. Pie in the Sky of course.

Now Robert Key, the new Managing Director of England’s Mens Cricket has suggested that the County Cricket Championship should be reduced from 14 matches per season to 10 but doesn’t mention how that might be achieved by promotion and relegation, or maybe those with the better Test match facilities such as Lord’s, The Oval, Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, Old Trafford and Headingley.  What’s needed is an increase in 4 day cricket not a reduction as most Test match cricketers hardly play enough matches for their counties as it is.  90% of cricket followers don’t want a gimmick like The Hundred, and as much as I like white ball cricket, three is one too many.

He agreed terms few weeks ago don’t know why it took couple weeks to sign. Wilder just didn’t fancy him and was unimpressed so no choice but to move. Lots of suitors but picked Swansea as they’re a footballing side though with a new manager coming in 🤔🤞

I’d be amazed if Boro are getting £4m for Wood.
Who pays that amount for a 20 year old who has only made a handful of Championship games, very few games in the last couple of seasons and whose career appears to have stalled ?

If this figure is right, then there’s an 18 year old central defender at Huddersfield , on loan from Chelsea , who played almost a full season and so is tried and tested at Championship level, who must be worth  approaching £20m.

I feel a bit sorry for Wood as I understand that he was badly advised by his agent to push for a loan move to Scotland, which for various reasons didn’t pay off, and so he played very little football. I think there is a talented footballer in him. Time will tell.

I will be happier when Boro sign a decent goalkeeper and a couple of forwards. Rumour of a loan for Armstrong of Southampton - far better deal than Gayle of Newcastle - much younger, potential to improve and more recently successful scoring goals in the Championship.
Having said that, it’s still very early days in signing players and there’ll be many more players  the Boro are reputedly interested in.

And then , there are a clutch of players Boro need to offload- may be more difficult than signing new players.

Finally, if Boro get £20m for Spence that would be excellent business as, personally, I think he’s been overhyped.

OFB, where did you get the figure of £4m for Wood, if it’s from an inside source I wouldn’t expect you to name, just in future treat his information with a touch of salt 😂

Sounds like all the talk of DS to Spurs for £20M is all a bit premature according to EG.

I am eagerly awaiting next year’s fixtures as we are returning to Teesside in September for a family wedding and am keeping fingers crossed that the visit will coincide with a home mid week game.😎🤞

Oh god! They want him off their wage bill, and make room for a great signing. How could we take on a player who is old. Give him a long contract, and a wage he never dreamt of. Please say it isn't so. With their clean out he will be out in the cold and free as a bird. We must stick to Young players with their lives in front of them.

£4m for Wood would be unbelievable business - quite literally! £20m for Spence would also be good business.

I’m very surprised at the Adam Armstrong rumours and can’t see that tbh. He only signed for them last season and for quite a large fee, whilst Soton will lose Armando Broja back to Chelsea so they look short up front as it is.

He’d be a great addition for us but I’d be surprised he leaves Soton.

£4 million it’s a large sum for an untried young player and whilst I also questioned it It’s not a figure I’ve plucked out of thin air.
I believe it includes appearance,  International caps and sell on fees.

I hope to come over to Teesside in September or early October,  too. And possibly see three matches in eight days.

So Wood to Swansea for possibly 300/500 thousand with the rest dependant on him blossoming in the future. Well we will look forward to that.

exmil. I cannot remember the team, but another article suggested Archer being used as a make weight for Aston Villa to get a player they want.

All rumours and in the end as long as the Boro don’t get a Connolly, Balogun Or a Sporar.
