Can anybody clear this up, have Wigan actually been given 12 points reduction, if not where does that leave boro ?

If Wigan would be 3rd from bottom after the 12 points deduction and BORO just above them we know that Wigan's appeal will be accepted any adjustment made to save them at our cost!

Wigan went into administration at their own request and EFL rules state that they then will incur a 12-point penalty this season if they don't finish in the bottom three. I can't see how they can now overturn that penalty - whether the EFL should have sanctioned the sale to the new owners is another matter but that's not the reason they were given a 12-point penalty.

The administrators have appealed the 12-point penalty on the grounds of 'force majeurein' in that the Covid situation was totally unexpected.

However, they are new owners who took over the club at the beginning of June, who already knew what the situation was with regard to Covid-19 before they bought the club and must have shown the EFL that they had proof of funds so it was done out of choice not out of unforeseen circumstances. They decided to not pay any bills at the first opportunity and put the club into administration.

@powmillnaemore.  Can anyone remind me the last time we scored three? 😎😀

That would be the opener against Luton I think....

I see Cardiff have their "1" already, so just our "3" to go in now 😉

@powmillnaemore.  So long ago I had forgotten it.  Match going to typical Boro script so far! 😎

Johnson apparently at fault again for the goal, according to Vic.

Nightmare start, but we have played some decent football since then.

Tav and Dijksteel the pick for us so far, but Roberts all but invisible,

Spence continuing to disappoint, Fletch not strong enough, and some familiar defensive frailties from Friend and Johnson. Friend may even have to be replaced. One more false move and he's off.

Some optimism that we can pull this one back, providing we handle their set-pieces more effectively.

@stircrazy  You cannot just blame Johnson. The first ball in at the near post was not won by Fletcher who is probably our tallest player. After that it is a lottery.Cardiff are doing what Cardiff do well. Set pieces, balls into the box. They look dangerous with those.

Saville and Howson have been poor IMO and Roberts has created nothing of note. Only Tav and Dijksteel have looked anything like.

Hard task to get a draw from this as Cardiff look the more likely.

@malcolm.  If Luton, Charlton & Birmingham win their final match and we lose then we finish in the bottom three and are reliant on Wigan being deducted 12 points! 😎

@grovehillwallah  GHW,....I think you have said In the past, anything can happen in this League. I believe there is more chance of Luton winning than the Boro getting a draw.

If it was Boro, the EFL would have docked the points by now. So another nail biting finish on Wednesday. Well, I have no nails left!

It would take a Perfect Storm of results and a backtracking of EFL rules to be relegated now. If it’s at the expense of Wigan that would be sad for them, but there’s no room for sentiment in football.

However, a point or better against Wednesday on Wednesday would be enough. Thankfully it’s still in our hands. Although butter fingers coated in ermm, butter, means its not beyond Boro to leave themselves wide open.

So. Right score just the wrong way round. This could still go very wrong for us. It is going to be one very uncomfortable evening on Wednesday. Let us hope not for that perfect storm that GHW mentioned.
