I read somewhere that Mr Warnock changed the team set-up to nullify their set-up. Why? Bizarre decision making for me, if it ain't broke and all that, just let them worry about us. Anyway it's over and the management simply cocked it up I suppose.

Although many people criticise Warnock for being "a dinosaur" I think his main problem is that he over-thinks tactics. He seems to be obsessed with surprising the opposition with an unexpected formation rather than having a standard shape and drilling players in it.

You could argue that even at this level, players should be comfortable with a variety of formations and able to play in different ways. Patently, we're not which means that when Warnock tries to be too clever he just confuses his own players.

Ironically, it seems that he set us up in a 3-1-4-2 formation that I've argued is the one that best fits our players. However, the players didn't seem to know how to make it work and he moved Howson and Crooks from positions they had played really well into ones they had played poorly in. We also seemed to revert to man-marking which meant that any formation was pretty nominal anyway.

@powmillnaemore

The problem with our conductor is that “he keeps playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!”
