I wonder if any Boro player will record a hat-trick this afternoon. I know I’m probably teasing everyone as they have become so rare for Boro nowadays, but here is a comprehensive list of Boro players who have done so with the years they first played for Boro:-

1899 Joe Murphy 1 hat-trick

1901 John Wilkie 1 QUINTET

1901 Sandy Robertson 2 hat-tricks

1902 Joe Cassidy 1 hat-trick

1902 Jack Brearley 1 QUARTET

1905 George Reid 1 hat-trick

1905 Tom Green 1 hat-trick

1906 Alf Common 1 QUARTET and 3 hat-tricks

1909 John Hall 1 hat-trick

1912 Sam Cail 1 hat-trick

1912 Jackie Carr 2 hat-tricks

1913 George Elliott 1 QUARTET and 12 hat-tricks

1913 Walter Tinsley 3 hat-tricks

1921 Andy Wilson 1 QUINTET and 1 hat-trick

1921 George Carr 2 hat-tricks

1965 Dickie Rooks 1 hat-trick

1966 John O’Rourke 3 hat-tricks

1997 Hamilton Ricard 1 hat-trick

2004 Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink 1 hat-trick

2008 Afonso Alves 1 hat-trick

2009 Marvin Emnes 1 hat-trick

2010 Scott McDonald 1 hat-trick

2014 Jelle Vossen 1 hat-trick

2014 Patrick Bamford 1 hat-trick

That’s 63 different scorers of hat-tricks or more, with 14 scoring four goals in a match, and 6 players even scoring 5 goals in a match, George Camsell doing that twice. The years recorded are when a player signed for Boro, not when he scored his first hat-trick,etc.

Wing does finally score to make it 4 (FOUR)-1 in the 82nd minute (assisted by Tav)!  😊  The old partnership back in action.  👍

Plenty of Christmas cheer being shared by Birmingham keeper Etheridge. What an absolute shocker he’s had.

Vic:

FT: Yeeeeesssss. Get in. A fantastic 4-1 away win. Boro showed grit to claw from behind after a woeful start then hit the afterburners to take control, show some teeth & quality to finish with a flourish - and great to see the boo-boy targets score!

Great result and a superb team effort after a poor start.

Can't fault this team for the way they work and battle for one another and whilst it is not always pretty it is incredibly effective.

All credit to the team and NW and his team for what they have achieved to date with limited resources.

A great Christmas present, thank you Boro. 😎

A great win and a triumph of organisation, team spirit and togetherness, typified by George Saville's gutsy, all-action M-o-M performance.

Morsy, McNair and Fry also outstanding.

Full credit to Britt who looked like a proper centre-forward again and scored the vital first goal.

Two goals for Wing who grew into the game and fully deserved his recall.

Tav, tireless as usual, played a vital defensive, as well as attacking role, as did Johnson.

Not a weak link in this team, though Dijksteel did not seem to be fully fit.

I was looking forward to seeing Etheridge, since NW said he would have signed him had he not been so expensive.  In the event he had a stinker.  Even before his major error in conceding a goal from Wing's corner his rushing out of goal in the first half caused his defenders all kind of problems.  Diving over Wing's shot for Boro's fourth goal put the tin hat on a day to forget for the Blues' keeper.

So congratulations to Neil, his staff and all of the lads for  their hard work in giving all Boro fans the prospect of a great Christmas in what has been a terrible year.  You can all put your feet up for the next week and, given Rotherham's situation, perhaps a bit longer. Time to wind down, ease aching muscles and recharge the batteries after what has been a bruising couple of months.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas to all.

The table does not lie as Sir Ian Gill said. We are the sixth for a week.

A great result - still seems unreal. 4-1. 4-1. 4-1 & 4-1.

Up the Boro!

When finding out the final score, Mrs Red was adamant it was because I wasn't watching and reporting to put the mockers on them.

She did add "but if Neil Warnock thinks I'm going under the knife every week just to keep his Jonah supporter busy he's got another thought coming!"

So no Roberts in the Squad?

His absence explained by NW:

I still feel a bit dizzy about 1 - 4.

All the best to you both.

PS That's a result for Werder!

I can get Radio Tees on my car radio and pre and post match on my iPad but not the match commentary and so in winter watch for scores on Sky sports. Only tuned in towards half time and pleasantly surprised at 2-1. Then only returned to the scores towards full time and could hardly believe  the score of 4-1.

Watched the highlights on Sky and really pleased for Wing even if the goal from the corner was a gift and on another day the keeper would have saved the second shot.

Looking at the top 8 in the Championship, Boro have to be the surprise team and long may it continue. Just hope Rotherham are able to put a team out next week.

Finally, good to see the locals here helping Boro with their win over Watford.

Watching the highlights, to me Wing's corner was curling in.

Etheridge got a hand to Wing's fourth Boro goal and also possibly Saville's second Boro goal so at what point does the contact of a Keeper's glove become an own goal?

Had a shot been going wide or way off target and the actions of a Keeper sends it into his own net where it otherwise wouldn't have ended up then fair enough, that to me is an own goal but for me Wing's corner was an attempt on target that the Keeper got his gloves to but failed to keep it out.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for Mrs Red, she is now recovering at home and has me running around attending to her every whim as she is unable to bend or lift anything for six weeks apparently.

I'm not sure if my fitness levels are up to the task as I have been washing, shopping, laundering, cleaning, hoovering, cooking, making copious amounts of tea and just as I was about to raise the point I got that "just dare" glance as she pointed out that she does all of those things in her spare time during the day. Discretion really is the better part of valour I concluded!

A house husband’s work is never done, or a widower’s come to that! However who said men can’t multitask?. Managed to listen to the match whilst writing about Boro’s hat-trick heroes. Good result today, but I expect Rotherham’s next two matches will be postponed due to covid. In a way I hope they are as the last thing Boro need is catching this pandemic from the Millers.

Glad your wife is home and by the sounds of it, still in control RR.

Discretion, I find with my much better half, is very much the better part of valour.

I hope her recovery goes well and that you are not run too ragged not to enjoy your Christmas.

@redcarred after the pacemaker operation 3 weeks ago I was told not to lift anything, pick up anything or raise my left arm above shoulder height. I asked the doctor “Does this mean I can’t use the hoover or do the cleaning or washing up or gardening or clean the cars? “Of course you can’t” he said. When I told mrs OFB she merely looked at me and said “have you been dreaming under that anaesthesia?” You never do anything around the house

@stircrazy

I was pleased to see Wing getting a start, I am of the opinion that the Keeper attempting to save your shot does not make it an own goal. Having seen his second goal I think that there was a reason that it beat the keeper, he hit it so well that it never left the ground, and that is unusual, you would expect the ball to be a foot of the ground at least, and that caught out the Keeper. But the main thing is having Wing in and around the box, he has the little touches which make the difference, a look at the second goal finds him in the box and a hand in the move.

@ken Oh no. I am so sorry Ken. I am sure you will enjoy the show, but I should have been less thoughtless. I honestly didn't think anyone on a football  forum would be as interested in it as I was.

I enjoyed the game yesterday and this manager of ours just seems to mooch the right team for every game.

Putting Wing and Britt back in the team was a master stroke and both made telling and scoring contributions.

Hopefully Gibson will find some money to get a couple of players in January to make a concerted promotion push.

Not seen any comments from GHW is he ill at the moment?

I wrote a couple of weeks ago that I hoped Wing would be given a start in more games so I am pleased he was and played his part in our great win. I may be a bit sentimental but I have admired how he has fought his way from Northern League to the Championship. I think his looking ineffective when he has come on a a sub is just down to lack of play. I  also think he has a good connection with Tav originally his passing to Tav who was further upfield  but for the 4th goal Tav saw him coming from some way back and put a lovely pass into his path. On SKY you can hear the thud as he hits the ball and it goes low to the goal whereas it could easily have been skied.

Another enjoyable watch so it was a bottle of Rioja at the pub (£19!) this afternoon. Happy Christmas to all the other members of DIASBORO and hopefully an enjoyable New Year when we are again able to go to the Riverside to create an atmosphere though I will be my usual somewhat quiet self.

Its been mentioned on here a few times in the past about how Tav and Wing do seem to have a telepathic understanding. Wing hasn't looked great when he has had the odd cameo under Warnock but yesterday he done well holding up the ball to play in Marvin for his cross for Saville's goal and of course to score two goals himself!

Glad to hear Mrs Red is well, RR, and that she is keeping you on your toes!

I was very worried at the start of yesterday’s game. For 25 minutes, Boro were awful. Brum had scored one and could have had 2 more. We couldn’t string two passes together and continually hoofed it long, to very little effect. Suddenly, we produced two moments of quality from nowhere to turn it round at 2-1. From then on, we were in total command. So, apart from the start, this was a very convincing and enjoyable win.

McNair, Fry and .......er, Saville were imperious. George had one of his best games for us, putting himself about with great energy and determination, and scoring to boot. EG commentators have often said he does lots of hard work that fans don’t always appreciate because much of it goes unnoticed. That certainly wasn’t the case yesterday- he was highly visible and really got stuck in.

Big shouts out, too, to Bola, Britt and, happily, to Lewis Wing. I was very pleased to see him given a start and making the most of it. In fact, I think everybody had a good game, even Dijksteel, who settled really well after his earlier travails.

And four goals away from home! Three wins on the bounce. Back in the play-offs. Woohoo!!

Happy Christmas, everyone. Stay safe.

I do hope that next week's game is not cancelled.  I do not want anyone to get Covid but we are on a winning run and feel it is important to keep it going.  The team will have had a week's break by next Saturday and given their last three games I dare say will be raring to go again by then.

I would just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2021. 😎

My opinion as well, what is the thought process that says a Keepers failed attempt makes it an own goal, no one else was remotely involved, the ball made its way into the net direct from wings  foot, sounds like a goal to me. The keeper is there to do his best to prevent any ball from whoever going into his goal, even him own players, and that includes getting any part of his body in the way. Pleased to see Wing in the box, that is his strength, and will produce goals for whoever.
