I stupidly asked this question whilst still on the classical music section. However perhaps this is the proper section to talk about dementia in Sport. In view of the number of cases of death by dementia amongst sports stars who have retired such as the late Jeff Astle, our own Willie Maddren, and Nobby Stiles, now of course current sufferers Jack and Bobby Charlton, as well as rugby internationals Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow, is it time for the wearing of some form of protective headgear to be made mandatory in both football and rugby? After all cricketers and cyclists wouldn’t dream today of not wearing a helmet when batting or cycling. As one who has fallen 3 times on my head this year though still passing concussion tests at the time, who knows what repercussions I’ll suffer later in life.
