@mw-in-darwin Thanks MW. I was living in Norwich at the time and came down on the coach. You probably passed me in your car.

It was three goals in the first 30 mins or so and which brought me to a state of near meltdown as the further ahead the team got, the more nervous I got.

A damp, autumnal day and a time that was nearer to WW2 than it is to us today. The area was run down and neglected but very real, not unlike the north-east.

I've never been back but still think of the ground as quite brilliant in its layout and setting. A proper community club and I wish them well. Just not in the next 24 hours.

It is the match day today. Any predictions?

As wrote, I will go for a narrow 1-2 win for the Boro. The Addicks lost 1-5 to Southampton in the last home match (the Portsmouth match was abandoned). So they will come out fighting after the heavy defeat in their last home match.

And as exmil said, it will be an emotional match after the lastest, abandoned match, too.

So please give your prediction. Up the Boro!

@jarkko I think that a narrow Boro win is about right. 2-3 Boro.

Thank you for your opener. It was very good. I am currently in Egypt and had an unknown fish for dinner last night. Possibly Addick?

KIM HELLBERG always knew Hayden Hackney was a supremely talented footballer. After presiding over his first two games as head coach, the Middlesbrough boss now also knows the 23-year-old is the ideal leader for his team.

With Dael Fry and Luke Ayling both unavailable, one of Hellberg’s first jobs ahead of his debut outing against Derby County was to choose a new captain.
Hackney had skippered his hometown team on a handful of occasions before, but the Teessider had never been formally installed as skipper.

That changed when he led Boro out ahead of the home win over Derby, with Hackney retaining the armband for Friday’s trip to Hull City, which ended in a resounding 4-1 win.
Hellberg knew Hackney would lead by example via his performance at the MKM Stadium, but the Boro boss was hugely impressed by the way in which the Redcar-born midfielder handled himself around his team-mates and took on the responsibilities that go hand-in-hand with being a captain.
“Hayden is a fantastic player,” said Hellberg, who was speaking at his press conference ahead of this evening’s game at Charlton Athletic. “He’s good at everything. He could play in every position there is on the pitch and do it brilliantly.
“He has all of that, but then he has also been the captain in these last two games and has been leading the squad so well.
“You could see his happiness when everyone else scored [at Hull] – he is such a good guy, for every goal, whether it was the first one or we were going four up, he was so happy for the people who were scoring, he was running to them and celebrating for them. as per N Echo

@chris-from-barlby Cheers.

I think the Addicts will be eaten in London  tonight .

We do not have that fish in the Baltic Sea. So Captain Hadoock is more familiar to me. Remember him in Tintin, anyone?

Up the Boro!

@jarkko

I just want to add my thanks and congratulations for a great starter. It’s really interesting and very informative. And all in a foreign language. Amazing!

On paper, this should be one of the easier games of the season, albeit away from home. But I agree with friends that tonight will be an emotional occasion. I have no doubt that Charlton’s players will be out to do their absolute utmost for the family and friends of the fan who died and that Nathan Jones will have them fully psyched up. We will probably have to withstand an onslaught early on. That said, I think we should have enough to beat the Addicks. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get all 3 points. UTB

Jarkko, I know I'm not Werder, but I am a (retired) qualified translator (French & German to English) & it's Schellfisch (nm), which literally, of course, means "shellfish"!

Now then, that is perfectly logial isn't it?

"It is a fish without a shell, so let's call it 'Shellfish'... that'll confuse Johnny Ausländer."

and while we are at it, "Don't tell them your name Pike."

Red face time for me & far too late for me to go back in & edit my original post:  my ageing memory was playing tricks on me.  I've just checked & the feminine noun, Schelle, actually means "clip", "bracker", "ring", "clamp" or even, in the plural (die Schellen), "handcuffs"!  Make of those what you will!  😉

@stircrazy  That makes more sence. The fish have a visble black ring (clip or clamp).

Off piste a little everyone, but I have started work on my opener for the Boro v Hull City game on 29th. I would very much like to post it as an image rather than all text. I am sure I have done something similar a long while ago, but i really can't remember how I did it.

Can anyone talk me through what to do to post a picture that will display as a picture and not as a link to a picture? If not, it is not the end of the world and I will post it as text as usual.

Alternatively, is there a way I can write something in a different font?

@powmillnaemore You are looking from inside out. Turn it around! 🤣 the haddock, that is.

About the picture, see your previous post. You did it in there. At least better than I was able.

About fonts, try copy past from another programme like Word. I can see only colours and Italic in here, though. Up the Boro!

One of our favourite places. I received vouchers from my in laws for my recent big birthday and have used half of them. The bonus for Ralf is a romp on the beach.
Saltburn is a big part of my teenage years as I lived for a while in Brotton, just up the road. Have had more than a few pints in the Ship.

@jarkko ... the haddock wasn't on my plate long enough to turn it inside out !!

Re the picture... a small picture like the fish and chips I posted above works, but I have a larger image and it doesn't seem to accept it when I try.

Re the font, I have tried many times to save what I have saved in word, or in Google, but the font style always seems to revert to the default, although I do have some success with colour.

Starting XI:

CJ:

One change as Burgzorg comes into the XI for David Strelec, who unfortunately misses out through illness.

Luke Ayling and Alan Browne are both back on the bench, in an injury boost. Rio Patterson-Powell also included in the squad, but there is no Sontje Hansen either.

Had thought Edmundson might start this evening, after Hellberg's talk of Charlton's set-piece threat. That was completely fitness dependent, however. Can only assume he isn't fit enough to get through enough of a game to start.

Good to see that Ayling & Browne are on the bench, but disappointing to hear that Strelec is ill.

@Jarkko - Many apologies for not having been here for a couple of days and, as a result, for not having been able to reead or comment on this new thread with Jarkko's Match Preview.  However I am here before anything TOO significant has taken place at Charlton, where the score remains 0-0 after maybe 15 minutes (there having been a tribute to the Charlton supporter who died at his team's last game).

Fingers crossed for tonight!

P.S.  I'm disgusted that CJ can't even be bothered to check his facts & conspicuously failed to spell "Headphones Norm's" surname correctly with an "R" between the "A" & the "K" in the build-up to kick-off!

Whittaker makes it 0-2 in first-half injury time with a little help from Mr McGree!  🙂

Fifth goal in five games.  The new Akpom?
