Yes think I read something about that recently but ultimately AI is not conscious - it just gives the illusion of being so by being trained on large datasets with various algorithms designed to make it perform a certain way. It can trick you or deceive you if that is its purpose it is a mimic but an unknowing mimic.
We shouldn't forget AI doesn't have emotions as they are derived from fears and desires of living and competing in the physical world - AI cannot feel pain, it doesn't suffer or feel empathy - it doesn't understand what motivates it to respond the way it does and doesn't reflect and think to itself when it is not being made to interact. Although people may think it does from its interactions.
That's not to say it is not useful and it won't continue to replace many tasks that humans have been able to make a living from. The worry of AI for me is that it will make a few people very rich indeed and very powerful but just increasingly leave the rest of us to have no meaningful role in society.
That is the real danger as what happens when if a large percentage of the population are just not needed anymore economically - who decides what kind of life they lead? will it be a life of leisure that was promised under the last technological revolution or is it if we're lucky minimum wage and a basic existence? It's the political question that needs discussion now and not once the government completely plays second fiddle to the new tech overlords and in essence have no power to exercise on behalf of the people.
@stircrazy this could well happen, obviously Hull can't outright sign anybody so I would guess Dieng and a little bit of cash may do the deal.
Will Dieng want to go there though? Looking like a league one club at the minute are Hull.
there were a lot of empty seats in the north stand and a heck of a lot of empty car spaces.
The trouble is Boro count season tickets as being in attendance but I think a lot stated at home and watched it on TV

I've worked on some projects that would disprove that 😫😱

Fair point, PJ, but would he be tempted to move by the prospect of more regular game time? 😉
I said in my post of 4.33pm yesterday that HH's block after his own giving the ball away in defence saved an equalising goal. In fact that incident occurred before Conway scored his goal. We say that goals change matches and if Boro had gone 0-1 at that stage, who knows if it would have been possible to get back into the game. A good job HH made that block/tackle deep in Boro's penalty area!
@werdermouth - No, Werder, I could NOT imagine Michael Carrick making a double substitution at HT. The usual thing would have been to make a like-for-like change at about the 73-78th minutes mark (whatever the state of the game, rather than to change the game or because different tactics were needed) and then another substitution at about 87 minutes. No flexibility, just a sort of routine to follow, whatever was happening on the pitch! I am so pleased RE doesn't follow that pattern.
@jarkko - My prediction is the average crowd will improve this season from the last one.
Neto Borges has joined Bristol City on loan until the end of the season 😱.
Come on BORO.
I'm quite surprised to see Neto Borges going out on loan. I think he was a major force for good as the season progressed last time.
I suppose it's a measure of how much the defence has been strengthened during the summer, as well as the obvious need to trim the squad.
The thing that encouraged me the most yesterday was the tenacity right through the team to win the so-called 50-50 balls.
@forever-dormo I was a little concerned at that point and was thinking, if United score first, would we be capable of scoring two. I had my doubts.
One thing that Edwards needs to stop and quickly, is the last vestiges of Carrickball and giving the ball away around the penalty area. Morris has been quietly of that also.
OFB. I was a little disappointed with the crowd, considering the first three games. May be there was a feeling of a banana skin moment for those walk ups having to a high price for a ticket when they could watch for free on TV. When you consider United had around two possibly two and a half thousand fans, it drops the Boro fans to nearer 24 K.
@peter-surtees I was also. In fact I am more than a little concerned as to the defensive back up available right across the back five and whether Sol Bryn will keep fit following his injury.
As for the defence, we have no cover at RB, unless you want to say it is Ayling. At LB, Targett has to prove his fitness and if so we will be fine. As pleased as I am for Silvera, he cannot defend. Bangura, will he ever be fit.
CB’s. Ayling, Fry and Lenihan could be vulnerable. I hope I am wrong on all accounts. However, I guess you have to trust in Edwards and the medics.
Perhaps bringing on Lenihan in the last few minutes was deliberately designed to reassure the fans that he is fit and available, in the knowledge that the Borges announcement was about to be made.
I think Borges was more convincing at CB than LB, so maybe the thinking was that CB spots are adequately covered.

Have you ever worked for the post office ?

BREAKING 🚨 "Middlesbrough are making progress on a deal for David Strelec. It's not done yet, but they are hopeful that he'll be a Boro player by the time the deadline comes around on Monday." - Mark Drury
Well, I think Neto Borges was never seen as a wing-back by Edwards. And I quite agree.
And now Alex Bangura and Matt Targett are there. Bangura is expected to be fit again soon after the international break.
I am sure we will play a flat four in defense occationally, too. But when we play with three centre backs we have Jones, Fry, Ayling, Edmundson and Leninhan available. I hope that is enough.
Up the Boro!

Life is good. I look at the table once a day 😇. Up the Boro!
Injuries are always a concern and we have been witness to that so much over the past couple of seasons, what I would say though is how surprising it is when a team is doing well and when the players are in it together how the injury list soon reduces, everyone wants a piece of the action.@peter-surtees I was also. In fact I am more than a little concerned as to the defensive back up available right across the back five and whether Sol Bryn will keep fit following his injury.

Fingers crossed for us to witness that this season.
Talking about defenders - and centre-backs in perticular - if one looks at the listing of our players at https://www.mfc.co.uk/teams, there is no mentioning of George McCormick. He can play at centre-back as well as left-back. Where is he now?
Also, I have not heard about Harley Hunt for ages. Does anyone know how he is doing nowadays?
I am just thinking about possible players if we see some injuries. In January we will have Adilson Malanda as he will be linking up with the squad.
Up the Boro!
I decided to follow the link Jarkko and it has well and truly raised my spirit at the very start of another working week. 🙂In case you have not seen this: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/championship/table

Midfielder Law McCabe has received his first call-up for England’s Under-20s, and could make his debut at that level against Italy on Friday.
An excellent reward for the Boro youngster. Up the Boro!
Fortunately not

Not too surprised to see Borges leave as he looked like he was 4th choice left wing-back and 6th choice central defender - with new acquisition Malanda due to return from loan in January too. So his position is probably a role for an academy player who can be brought into the squad when needed. Borges reportedly on £20k a week and has 2 years remaining on his contract. Still it does mean Boro only have 5 fit senior central defenders until January for a back three - with Lenihan yet to prove his durability.
A bit ironic that Newcastle were upset with Isak for refusing to play in order to get a move to Liverpool (£125m!) and have now signed Wissa for £55m who was refusing to play for Brentford because he claimed they had agreed he could have a move.
Strelec confirmed - huge coup of a signing.
@powmillnaemore - There have been cases in which AI has failed badly and/or made massive errors. One young barrister was disciplined by her professional body (and severely castigated by the Judge) for having served a Skeleton Argument which cited a number of alleged authorites which she said supported her client's position. Sadly for the barrister, the Judge and almost certainly the other side in the case looked up the "authorities" only to discover that the cases cited had been invented. The young barrister apologised to the court and admitted having had recourse to ChatGP (or something similar) but obviously she was left high and dry when the IT referred to spurious law. Presumably, having received the computer answer, the young barrister just cut and pasted the text rather than checking it first.
I can't imagine ever wanting to instruct a barrister who'd been found responsible for such a massive error of judgement. What she did was the equivalent of sticking a made-up equation into a maths answer. Stupid beyond words because if any lawyer saw a document which suggested the law was X when he believes it to be Y, he would inevitably look up the quoted legal case in order to check how he'd got it wrong, and to see if there might be weaknesses or a way around the alleged authority.
Yes Strelec confirmed from a usually reliable source...

Perhaps we'll one day we'll see cases being held in front of an AI Judge...
