It may see churlish, but KP and Clive are absolutely correct. Boro have been poor.

Sloppy passing, slow and ponderous as Philip would say.

OK we are one up and should have been two to the good. However if we keep playing like we have done, Wednesday will score. Balls over to top and crosses in. Boro just not dealing with them. The defence and midfield have left gaps all over the place for the opposition to drive through.

I will reiterate what I said previously. We need Fry on sharpish and also Whittaker changed if he does not get into the game soon.

Forget what Coventry and Bristol are doing, they may end up winning yet. We need to win, a must win.

Also no surprise:  the Wendies equalise through Josh Windass in the 54th minute...

Another defensive howler from Boro. Howson loses a header and Sheffield hit the post only to pick it up and score close in.

Boro continue to be all over the place defensively and Carrick is doing nothing. At the moment only one team will win this

Burgzorg on for Forss in the 67th minute.

Fry finally on (for Whittaker) in the 77th minute.

CJ in the 73rd:

Boro struggling to halt the home side momentum. Another good attack and drive at goal from Windass, with Travers needing to make another strong save.

It has been awful to listen to the second half of the game... a sort of inevitability about it.

Wednesday was the team bottom of the Form Table.  Boro 1-0 up early on and with a penalty kick to make it 2-0 and (as it turns out) to get back into a Play-Off position with the future of the team in the players' own hands.  A defeat in those circumstances seems fated.

Dismal.

We got what we deserved. It’s really unforgivable to play with so little intent at this stage of the season and in the circumstances we find ourselves.

This season can go straight in the bin.

Grrr.

"It was hard for the players.  They didn't get the breaks.  We can still do it."

Boro's generosity allows Wednesday its first home win since New Year's Day. I mean, it's not as though Boro was playing away to Liverpool.

As Forever Dormo says, I guess that it was inevitable that we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Didn’t watch the game so I can only speculate that all the unaddressed failings came to pass. Very poor performance against limited opposition? Massive opportunity squandered.

As Maddo said in commentary we lack steel and commitment in all areas of the game. Incredibly IF we win our last two games we make the playoffs. You couldn't make it up.

Anyone who rings the BBC Tees after-match phone-in, when asked which points they intend to make when they get through, will never be allowed on.  They would inevitably be censored off the show.  If uncensored, the air would be blue.

You just could not make it up could you.
Both Bristol and Coventry lose badly and a great opportunity for Boro.

Irrespective of our early goal against the run of play and then a missed penalty or was it a good save, we looked vulnerable at the back.

The writing was on the wall all along from the first minute. Carrick made the wrong team selection not learning anything from recent games.

Defensively we were very poor and the midfield two, especially Hackney did not control the middle, that was left to Bannon.

At half time changes needed to be made, but then we know that Carrick can be clueless in those situations. And so it came to pass.

This may be controversial, but for me after this afternoon, Carrick has taken us as far as he will ever do.

How many free gifts does this team want ?  Winning 1-0, gifted a penalty - miss it.

Then second half - there was only one team going to win the game. High balls into Boro’s penalty  area were always a threat. Boro’s passing was truly awful.

Then what was Van den Berg doing ? - he failed to clear the ball and 3 defenders contrived to give away a scrappy goal to give Wednesday the lead.

Then another gift -Burgzorg should have scored , the ball rebounds to Conway - another gift- he has only got to get the ball on target and he hits the bar.

Boro didn’t deserve to win this game on a day Coventry and Bristol City both lose.

Finally, I have to say that I do not rate Van den Berg - give me Fry as a more solid defender.

Philip of Huddersfield 👎👎☹️☹️

I’m absolutely livid. That was one of our worst performances of the season and definitely our worst defeat. We’ve thrown away the chance to put real pressure on Coventry and Bristol, both of whom lost, and we’ve given up an instant return to the playoffs. Second half we were utterly abysmal. I wish someone had told our players we were actually playing in red, because for the whole of the half we gave the ball back to Wednesday after just one or two passes..

For much of the game Boro played with very little urgency, no cohesion and limited intent. If Carrick can’t get them motivated to turn up properly for the second half when he must know what’s happening elsewhere, then something is seriously wrong. Why wasn’t he screaming at them? This was an inexcusable and utterly demoralising defeat.

And just to finish off this rant: for The Owls’ second goal, Patterson was in acres of space and had time to ping across a lovely cross, with no defender offering any kind of challenge. Three Boro defenders plus Travers all tried to clear the ball. Comedy defending, as ever. Pathetic.

"We've got to learn about managing the game better." (Michael Carrick in the post-match interview).

WHEN are we going to learn that? We are 44 games into this league season, following on from the previous two seasons, and we haven't learned it yet?  Maybe half way through season 4 we might learn it?  Or season five?  And who needs that lesson - the manager, the coaching staff, the players?  Are the management staff capable of teaching and are the players capable of learning the lesson?

Has anyone tried to teach a cat algebra?  I guess you'd get the same result.

Surely someone in the dug out just needed to say let’s take a point and move on? We would have then been within 3 points of Bristol with a better GD and they play Leeds away next.
Serious question…..with the playing squad we currently have and if we had a coach with greater tactical acumen and nouse, where would we finish in the league? 4th?

@philip-of-huddersfield   VDB has generally been poor since he came back from injury, and in truth has had an inconsistent season. Cutting him some slack, he is relatively young, so should have been taken out of the firing line when possible.

Fry should have started because he is our best CB at the moment. Howson as dependable as he is, really struggled this afternoon when defending in and around the 18 yard box. He also lost players a number of times due to pace.

He should never have been in the defence. Then what does Carrick do, puts him in midfield after a hard shift and moves Hackney into the number 10 slot. Was that supposed to be a thought out substitution or a bad joke.

It is just as well that there was an early cut off date for the ST’s, because there is no way I would buy one at this moment.

@eboroacum   Certainly in the playoffs. Add in that a Coach that can get the best out of what he has and play them in their best position where they deliver the most consistent performances
