Poor display after Jones mistake and then Ayling nearly gave a goal away

needs some changes in the team

OFB

None at the start of the second half...

Barlaser & Hamilton on for Morris & Jones in the 68th minute, Conway for Azaz 10 minutes later.

Coburn replaces HH in the 90th minute!  Five minutes of injury time...

No sucker punch in the dying seconds, more's the pity.  Didn't take long for the bubble to burst, did it?  🙁

In many ways this was as disappointing as the Leeds game was enjoyable. Despite enormous amount of possession Boro didn’t know how to break Derby down. Lack of creativity in the last third of the pitch.

It only takes 2 league games and Boro back to normal - not sure what to expect?

Well that gets the unbeaten this season monkey off our backs ...We will meet a few teams this season that will make space difficult to find in the penalty area. We have to learn how to open up that space with more movement off the ball and faster movement of the ball in the final third.

Shame for Jones, but Derby only did get to score because of that bad blunder.

Well that sums up the Championship - Boro having the bulk of possession but lacking the final ball and shot to make it count - Derby not only parked the bus they let the tyres down as well - though it's Boro followers who are feeling even more deflated this afternoon. A game Boro should have won but you have to take your chances - Burgzorg the most impressive in the second half but Hamilton doesn't look match fit to me yet and maybe Azaz not on his game either. Still early days and maybe the kind of result to sharpen up a few players into thinking it's going to need them to perform at higher level but hopefully there's more to come as they get minutes on the pitch.

"Polished" Boro?  More like still a rough diamond on the evidence of today's performance.  🙁

That was a very poor Derby side, the teams you have to take points off if you want to be at the top end of the table.

We were at times very pedestrian, passed for passing sake and when we created anything like, we’re wasteful

We had 70% possession, twenty shots and only FOUR on target.

We had very, very little down the outside with crosses in behind their defence. Our wide men, Jones, Hamilton, the fulls when they got forward, how many crosses did we actually put in. No we preferred to play it back and inside, losing any momentum.

I said I would be OK with a draw and disappointed with no points. I am bitterly disappointed after seeing that performance this afternoon. I do not think we would have scored if we had played another 90 minutes.

I believe MC needs to tweak his style of attacking play a little. Virtually everything went down the right side even when Engels was unmarked. However saying that, he only passed it back over when he received the ball.

We struggled against Swansea and you have to say we were poor today, considering it was  Derby, the possession we had and our final decision making.

It will take more than a gin and tonic and a couple of glasses of wine to get over that display.

So Boro unable to score with 70% of the ball against a newly promoted team. Very disappointing and plenty of thinking for the coaching team to do.  Teams that win automatic promotion can only afford to lose a maximum of 10 games and for Boro today should not have been one of them.

Well that display certainly punctured our high spirits and aspirations.

I think everyone has already hit the nail on the head concerning our poor performance and you just hope and put it down to a bad day at the office; unfortunately there will be a lot more if we continue in that vein, with many a team no doubt employing similar tactics against us.

Early days but top two will be out of the window unless MC and the team find a way of unlocking packed defences. 😎

Not what I expected not going to blame Jones most players have a rick in them. We do struggle against law block, onwards and upwards hopefully

@k-p-in-spain          the majority of the teams we play against, especially when we are at home, will park the bus to a certain extent. They did last year and they have in the two games to date.

Last year was an issue and this season already is. Our wide men, generally just do not get past their full backs sufficient times during a game for our forwards to run on to. If we do not an extra option, we will probably continue to struggle and be vulnerable to the odd mistake like Jones and Ayling today.

@paulinboro.  They probably should do given their resources/squad. I can’t see anyone else stopping them from being Champions, sadly. 😎

interesting listening to Radio 5 yesterday evening, talking about Burnley and how they were adaptation getting behind the defence and to the by line at pace. They highlighted that while keeping the same controlling play that Kompany had them playing, they now had this ability to adapt and play to get past the defence to the byline. I forget who the pundit was, but he felt that gives the current Burnley an edge that was missing under Kompany.

It made me think of us. While the way Carrick has us playing will make be successful in games a lot of the time, we really do seem to lack the ability to adapt in a game to be able to beat the packed defence.... i.e. We don't get behind the defence at pace. Let's hope MC and team take a look at how Burnley are operating this season and perhaps learn a bit. Certainly in Jones we have that capa ility... in fact demonstrated well against Leeds where he combined effectively with Djiksteel to get past the Leeds defence.

Lots for us to still look forward to I think.

If you don't want to know the score, look away now.

Sunderland 4 - Sheffield Wednesday 0

Ouch
