I think Doak was always going to start as it’s only one game and his responsibility ends as he then returns to Boro. So, the manager picks him and if there are any problems it’s not his worry but his parent club.
So Boro will be hoping he’s ok and then have to decide is he ok to play at the weekend.

I remember Steve Pears making his loan debut for Boro and Cliff Mitchell awarding him 10 out of 10 points for a magnificent game
All the Boro crowd singing “sign him on, sign him on, sign him on” 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

Recent(ish) best loan candidates for me:
Woodgate (I think he was initially loaned)
Geremi- terrific short-term addition
Gaston - it ended badly, it started brilliantly.
A great choises there. Geremi was great and it took Boro several years to have someone as good on the right hand side of midfield or right wing.Recent(ish) best loan candidates for me:

Some more from the Teesside alive. Boro have seen cult hero Uwe Fuchs, player of the season Geremi, cup-winning right back Danny Mills and Karanka goal-getter Patrick Bamford all impress on Teesside only to depart at the season’s end - albeit Bamford eventually returned.
Up the Boro!
reminds me of some good ones - of those listed so far , Geremi was the best.
I see that the Scotland manager who substituted Doak after 66 minutes has admitted that he was totally shattered and probably should have brought him off sooner.
So, he’s saying it’s over to you mr. Carrick to do what’s best for the lad after he got all he could out of him. It must be a real dilemma for Carrick doing what’s best for Boro and the player.
I would not be surprised if he was on the bench. Alternatively I would be amazed if he played 90 minutes

@jarkko and @andy-r good shouts and I'd agree with @philip of Huddersfield that Geremi was, at least, up there with the best, though I am sticking by my shout out for Pearsy as the best.
More recently of course we had Archer making an impression for us. How we all would have loved to have had him on the books as a permie.
What is interesting as you look back season by season is how once loans were relatively rare, but over the last decade or more, they have become much more significant components of the first team squad. I guess that will be true of many clubs in the Championship and lower.
What impact that must have on any clubs ability to stay promoted if and when you have to lose the key players that just got you promoted. Not a healthy model really.
