Before people get carried away:
Come on BORO.
@martin-bellamy His daughter I believe is the girlfriend/partner of a son of a well known crime gang. That does mean the said son is involved in any criminal activities, but the family allegedly are.
It is freely available on the internet.
In reality, could MFC really afford an ex Coach employed at Rangers, Villa and then in Saudi.
His salaries must have been enormous, especially the last one.
@pedro I agree his salary (and budget requirements) would not suit Boro.
Mogga for me if he wants the job.
Good grief. More and more names mentioned as ‘favourites.’ But the words ‘scrape,’ ‘barrel’ and ‘bottom’ spring to mind.
@gt At least Greame Leadbitter spent the 2021/2022 season gaining his UEFA A License. So he would be technically better prepared than Sir Gareth Southgate was when he was appointed as a Boro manager.
A good shout. Up the Boro!
I think I said it before, that Gibson might back the Boro fully this season for promotion. I think there will be money available for new players as we have sold Morgan and Latte Lath in the past.
More over, we are preparing for the 150 year birthday of the club. What would be more impressive than playing on the highest level in our anniversary year. So I expect we will keep the best players in Hackney and van den Berg.
It would be even better to have Sir Gareth Southgate back at his beloved Boro. Has he possibly applied for the job?
Of course Mogga would be another nice option for the celebration season, too. Up the Boro!
I should have said, that he is NOT involved. Although his father, Liam Byrne, has been jailed for arms offences after being arrested in Majorca and extradited to the UK
@chris-from-barlby No going back, for me Chris.
I'm surprised Lee Carsleys name hasn't been mentioned in the betting
Interesting aside about Steven Gerrard's daughter being in a relationship with the son of 'notorius' Belfast gangster Liam Byrne - they recently had a child together and apparently it didn't go down well that Stevie G was filmed seen hanging out with Liam.
The criminal gang is know as the Kinahan Organised Crime Group - you may or may not know that the TV series 'Kin' was loosely based on the same Kinahan gang. Liam's brother David was gunned down in 2016 as one of 18 victims murdered in a feud between them and the Hutch family.
Incidentally, Liam Byrne was released from prison just three months after being jailed for five years for firearms offences - he was granted early release from Belmarsh Prison in early January 2025 but has been placed under strict house arrest.
Well that will certainly makes some family get together a lot less awkward than the Gerrard-Byrne ones!
Perhaps life on Teesside would be too tame...
So according to the Echo the next Boro manager will be between Steve Cooper, Danny Rohl and Rob Edwards - with interviews in the coming days and an announcement possibly at the end of the week.
Given Rohl has 5 million pound release clause and Cooper has ruled himself out then my money will be on Rob Edwards!
I think that would be a final three that makes some sense from the long list, for various reasons.
Edwards would be probably be my third choice of the three as I can see very little success on his CV. Getting Luton promoted was a big success though, but then getting them relegated from the Championship was a far, far bigger failure than Carrick’s last-day-tenth. Ordinarily I’d be put off by Luton’s style of play but I think it was a case of Edwards adapting to his squad, to his credit, rather than it being his preferred way of playing.
Cooper has the best CV of the three including a promotion with Forest. I don’t see him as a natural successor to Carrick however. Though there was that outrageous purple patch that got Forest promoted, Cooper’s sides usually play a more defensive game and counter attack. Useful for a promoted side but I’m not sure how well it would work at The Riverside for instance. I could see Cooper making us more solid over time but equally we could struggle for goals (with the current squad at least) and the appointment would interest me, rather than excite me.
Danny Rohl would be my choice I think, though it’s an opinion too heavily weighted on a short period of time at Sheffield Wednesday in very difficult circumstances, and particularly the way he made half-time changes at The Riverside to claw back that 0-3 deficit. He’s a young coach who seems very impressive to me but admittedly I haven’t as much to go on.
As say however, Cooper is most likely uninterested and Rohl too expensive, so Edwards - probably the plan all along - is perhaps most likely of that particular trio.
I agree with all that and given the choice i'd prefer Danny Rohl too as he seems to have a bit more to him and would perhaps be the closest to Carrick. I get the impression Cooper sees a return to the Championship as a step backwards but maybe he's waiting for someone like Brentford to come knocking. Edwards is the biggest gamble for me as he's now had 2 bad starts to a Championship season on his cv with Watford and Luton - nice guy but maybe not a man with a plan who can turn things round.
Good afternoon, Playmates! I have NO IDEA who will be appointed as the next Boro manager/coach. I have read the posts above.
I think we are in dreamworld to believe that Craig Bellamy would be the "Chosen One" after the start he has made as Wales manager, particularly after last night's incredible comeback (albeit ultimately unsuccessful) against the mighty Belgium in Brussels. That was some game!
I have read the comments about Stevie Gerrard, above. I won't say anything about his extended family but I'm not sure I want another period where the club's name becomes an appendix to the manager (as in "Stevie Gerrard's Boro") even though that would be an improvement on "Wayne Rooney's Boro". Steve Cooper always looks to me as if he is having trouble keeping his eyes open - as if his contact lenses were causing him some discomfort. I know little about Rohl. I might well have appointed Rob Edwards the last time the manager's position became available but was blindsided by Michael Carrick appearing from the East like a comet. Three years ago Rob Edwards' star was in the ascendant.
The reality is that, whatever our views, there is only one person whose opinion counts: Steve Gibson. It is POSSIBLE that if I want to buy a replacement car I will listen to the views of friends. But it's a question of which cars are available and the job they are expected to do (be a decent towcar for example), and how much it will cost me. It's MY money so I will call the shots not my friends nor people online and/or in the Press. It's Steve Gibson who stumps up the money without which Boro might well be swimming in a much smaller (First Division?) pond. So we can speculate as much as we like but we have as much chance of exerting any influence as we have of forestalling the next visit of Halley's Comet. In 36 years' time, 2061, if you're interested.
@forever-dormo I hope to see the comet. I will be celebrating my 100th birtday the same time, too. I hope Boro will be promoted before that, though. I want to see that before the comet.
I am surpriced if the three are the final options. I was expecting a surprice choise by Mr. Gibson.
Up the Boro!
Just on Danny Rohl apparently on the shortlist of 3 and final interviews expected to be completed in the coming days - surely since he is still employed by Sheff Wed, Boro would have to ask permission to speak to him and also agree a compensation figure too. Hard to see that happening in the next few days given how long transfer negotiations have generally took quite a while with Boro in recent times.
As I said previously, of the pack being touted, it would be Cooper.
Now it appears it's down to three, according to Scott Wilson's "exclusive"
As Dormo said, it will be down to one man to have the final say. His club, his money his decision.
Let's hope he gets this one right after 15 years of ??????. If not then the Riverside could be be very toxic and very empty this season.
I don't think any of the runners and riders will excite fans, and season tickets will be disappointing, I think the two are Monk types , media biased, through their agents, let's see
I think we have to be realistic in that most managerial appointments are going to be something of a gamble - just like Carrick was or Karanka and anyone who hasn’t got a proven track record.
I still maintain it will be the quality of the players that is the most important factor and whether the head coach can improve them.
I notice Iling-Junior was the latest player to sing the praises of Carrick as a good coach and man manager and thanked him for improving his game!
Thinking can we , take a break, from the v Rockliffe soap opera,
The England men's national team, what is going on, are they a media love child, great players , what do they see
Like Boro, you create a unit, all going the same way, a balance within the system, the some of the parts,
For instance I think Jude Bellingham is a good player not great, and infact disrupts momentum within the play, Saka come on, really, loses the ball all game,
I could go on, I believe in high standards if a player makes a simple bad choice that ends up the team is put in a bad position, I can't trust him.
Today's coaches I think all sing off the same hyme sheet, and their standards are losing eighteen games and finishing tenth is I'm doing good,
Elsewhere, Rav(anelli 😅) van ben Berg has told the Dutch press, that he had an operation at Boro last season. The Teesside Live wrote that he actually underwent knee surgery in the autumn, the Dutchman continued: "If you are injured more often, you start to think about it. Whether you did something wrong, for example. But I did not do anything different than usual, so you have to get over it. Fortunately, the final phase of the season was good again."
I must admit that the press conferences hold by Carrick were quite boring. He never told anything important in them. As an example he never let us know about the severity of Rav's injury - not even afterwards. How I misssed Mogga, Southgate or Warnock during the pre-match pressers!
Well, at least the new head coach will be more interesting in his talking. Up the Boro!
Just been looking at Rob Edwards promotion season with Luton where he joined them during the November international break after Nathan Jones was poached by Southampton - Edwards having earlier that season been sacked by Watford.
Luton were only 2 points outside the play-offs when he joined but ended up finishing 3rd on 80 points and then beating Sunderland in the play-offs and the winning the final 6-5 on penalties against Coventry (who as we know beat Boro in the play-offs).
Edwards only lost one of the last 20 Championship league games but Luton only scored 24 goals in those 20 games - only scoring more than one goal on four occasions - so it was more about being a solid hard to beat side than a free-flowing attacking one.
Perhaps the club model of making a big profit on players is more likely to succeed if the head coach plays more attacking football - say what you like about Carrick but the value of Akpom, Rogers and Latte Lath increased because of the goals under a more attacking style.
Though that's not to say many wouldn't appreciate Boro becoming harder to beat!

OFB I have searched all the gazette Boro FC sites and cannot find any mention of two European based candidates breaking news, can you provide the link to the article please.
Come on BORO.
I was just wondering who was under consideration for the vacant seat at Boro. Knowing how much our lives now depend on AI, I put a question to Google to learn as follows, and some of you might be surprised to hear it:
AI Overview
Recent reports suggest that Middlesbrough FC have appointed Michael Carrick as their new head coach. While there are no prominent "foreign manager" rumors specifically targeting Middlesbrough FC at this time, there's a broader discussion about the potential for foreign managers in the English Premier League and Championship.
@powmillnaemore - As an advertisement for AI, its up-to-date relevance and/or accuracy, that answer would make me go back to counting on my fingers or reading the pages of the "legacy Press" rather than relying on information technology.
